Garrett was furious. Who was this guy, and what gave him the right to stop him? The noise around him was getting on his nerves. He shouted at the young man, "I'm the child's grandfather, and I'm taking the child with me!"
The young man looked at him suspiciously and asked Gregory, "Is he really your grandfather?"
Gregory insisted, "I don't know him at all! They are human traffickers!"
Chloe, taking advantage of the situation, started wailing loudly, saying, "I want to go home, I want my mommy!" She sat on the ground, her leg still bleeding.
The scene aroused sympathy from the onlookers. "So pitiful, look at that leg wound!"
"These two traffickers have no humanity at all! The parents of these children must be heartbroken!"
Nowadays, with human trafficking rampant, everyone was calling for action against child traffickers.
In a flash, the crowd was incensed, glaring angrily at Garrett and the driver. "No, how could I become a trafficker? I'm just a driver!" The driver tried to defend himself, looking flustered.
The crowd was buzzing with voices, ignoring his explanations. A woman stepped out from the crowd, shielding the two children and glaring at Garrett, warning, "You two traffickers, don't even think about taking these children! If you don't leave now, I'll call the police!"
Immediately, others chimed in, "Call the police, we must call the police! Arrest the traffickers!"
Some even took out their phones, ready to make the call. The driver's face turned pale, quickly stepping forward and saying, "Wait! Let's talk about this!"
They were holding the children hostage; if the police were called, it could lead to trouble.
Garrett's face turned livid as he angrily scolded the two children, "How dare you two little bastards spread lies!" How could he, Mr. Jones, be accused of trafficking by these bastards? If this got to the police station, it would be incredibly embarrassing!
These two, they were indeed Deanna's offspring.
At that moment, a voice rang out, "Who do you call a bastard?"
The voice was as clear as a bell, yet chillingly cold, sending shivers down everyone's spines.
The crowd looked over to see a tall man standing there, seemingly appearing out of nowhere.
Impeccably dressed, exuding an air of nobility, he was unmistakably Lance!
Xavier followed silently behind him.
Lance had a dinner appointment nearby tonight. At this moment, he was planning to walk to the restaurant.
Unexpectedly, he heard Chloe's miserable crying.
Following the sound, he approached to take a look. Chloe had scraped her leg, still bleeding, while Gregory was seeking help from passersby.
On the other side, Garrett was furious, calling them bastards.
Lance figured out that Garrett probably wanted to take them away, and they refused. As for the reason, he could likely guess it was related to Emily's situation.
Gregory and Chloe were overjoyed to see their handsome uncle.
Chloe's eyes lit up. She crawled up from the ground, rushed over, and hugged his leg, saying, "Uncle, save us! This bad man wants to take us away and even threatened my mommy."
Gregory also ran over, hugging his other leg, not saying a word.
With these two adorable kids clinging to his legs, Lance's heart softened.
Garrett saw Lance and was stunned. What was he doing here?
Then, he put on a fawning smile and greeted, "Mr. Mercer, you're here at the right time. I know you're acquainted with Deanna. You should also know about my relationship with her. Please tell them I'm not a trafficker."
He was calculating that this was an opportunity for Lance to extend a helping hand. Jones Group was a big company, and there might be future business dealings with Mercer Group.
Lance had no reason to offend him for such a trivial matter, even though he favored Deanna. After all, Garrett was still the children's grandfather.
Lance looked at him with cold eyes. He squinted, his voice chilling, "Who are you?"
Lance hugged himself, as if they were complete strangers.
The driver, who initially felt relieved to see a familiar face, tensed up again at this.
"Mr. Jones, we-" He hadn't finished his sentence when people around him started saying, "They really are traffickers!"
"Call the police, arrest them!"
"Traffickers should be shot!"
With emotions running high, people were calling for action, and someone had already called the police.
The driver couldn't defend himself anymore and sat down despondently.
Garrett quickly said, "I'm the Chairman of Jones Group!" He was anxious. Could it be that Lance really didn't recognize him? He couldn't prove his identity in this situation. Did he really have to go to the police station today?
The prestigious Jones Group getting involved in a police case because of family matters. If the media found out, who knows how it would be reported?
With fervent eyes, he stared at Lance, silently begging him to help him out.
Lance looked at him coldly and innocently said, "I've never heard of you. What's your relationship with these two kids, who belong to Deanna? Taking them away without consent, isn't that kidnapping? Sort it out at the police station; I'll take the kids first."
Then, he instructed Xavier behind him, "Stay here; wait for the police to handle this."
Xavier nodded. "Understood."
Lance bent down, picked up one child in each arm, and walked away.
