Chapter 614: Regret

As Deanna finished speaking, the expressions of everyone present turned peculiar.

Miss Mills also showed a troubled look and whispered to Deanna, "Miss Jones, these people came with Kamden initially and didn't sign any employment contracts."

Hearing this, Deanna's brows furrowed deeply once again. She hadn't expected Kamden to rely on his position and not have these people sign employment agreements. No wonder when she asked Kamden to leave earlier, he was angry but didn't object; he was waiting for this moment.

Braelynn's voice rang in her ears again. "Since the chairman knows we aren't bound by any contracts with the company, can we leave now?"

Deanna couldn't refute this and, after a few seconds of silence, finally relented. "Alright, you can leave, but you cannot take any company information with you. Once everything is checked and cleared, you may go."

She turned to leave but had only taken a couple of steps when an angry voice erupted behind her. "What do you mean by this? Searching our belongings is an invasion of privacy."

"Exactly! I absolutely refuse to be searched. If you don't let us go, we'll call the police and make sure everyone knows how overbearing your company is."

"I'm calling the police right now," someone said, pulling out their phone.

Seeing this, Deanna's face darkened sharply. She couldn't let this situation escalate. She wanted to manage the company well, but letting them go without checks could mean they might take confidential information with them. However, she couldn't be threatened by these people either.

With a stern expression, she sneered, "Go ahead, call the police. It saves me the trouble of doing it myself."

Hearing this, those who had been making a fuss quieted down and looked at Deanna in confusion. They didn't understand her intentions.

Deanna didn't keep them waiting long and continued, "I discovered while reviewing the company's accounts that your department has millions in quarterly investments with no results. There are even documents on the general manager's desk requesting more funds."

She looked coldly at Braelynn, her tone full of threat. Braelynn understood and reluctantly compromised. "Alright, everyone calm down. Since Miss Jones insists on a check, let it be done. As for the accounts, they are necessary for research. Even if Miss Jones calls the police, we have nothing to hide."

With these words, those who had been intimidated by Deanna began to regain their composure. Some looked angrily at Deanna as if wanting to say something but ultimately remained silent under Braelynn's signal.

Seeing that Braelynn was a shrewd person, Deanna decided not to pursue the matter further. "Miss Mills, arrange for someone to check their belongings. If everything is clear, let them go. Remember, they are not allowed to take anything from the company!"

With that, she turned and left the technical department, heading not to her office but to the finance department. Braelynn's words had reminded her that she hadn't reviewed the company's financial situation yet.

Regretting having Kamden leave so early, she knew that even though she wasn't skilled in managing a company, the fact that the technical department alone consumed billions annually indicated financial issues. But it was too late to regret now.

With these thoughts, she followed other employees to the finance department. As soon as she arrived, a man claiming to be the finance manager approached her.

"Miss Jones, why did you come personally? If you need anything, you could have someone notify me."

The finance manager looked at Deanna with a flattering smile. For some reason, seeing his smile made Deanna feel like she was looking at a fox with a grin. She knew this finance manager was likely not as straightforward as he appeared.

"Nothing much, just my first day here and wanted to familiarize myself with the environment."

"In that case, how about I accompany you around the company?" The finance manager offered eagerly.

Deanna politely declined, "No need. The HR manager already agreed to show me around but got held up with something. He should be here soon. By the way, please send the company's financial records for the past five years to my office later; I want to review them."

"Sure, I'll have someone send them over." The finance manager nodded with a smile.

If one looked closely, they could see a hint of guilt in his eyes.

Deanna didn't notice this and left after he agreed, planning to take this time to explore the company thoroughly.
