Old Walsh's heart sank once again upon hearing those words.
Mr. and Mrs. Walsh also realized that this matter was not going to be easy to handle.
Especially Mrs. Walsh, who was particularly anxious. She did not want her daughter to end up in jail.
"Miss Jones, I know it's a bit much to ask, but Leticia is our only daughter. Could you please spare her from jail? Whatever compensation is needed, the Walsh family will accept it," Mrs. Walsh pleaded.
As soon as she finished speaking, Old Walsh knew it was a mistake.
Sure enough, the next second, Lance retorted angrily, "What, you think we need your charity? If you know it's too much to ask, then don't ask at all!"
Mrs. Walsh was left feeling humiliated.
Seeing this, Old Walsh chided her softly, "If you can't speak properly, then just stand quietly on the side."
Watching his father-in-law's annoyed gaze, Mrs. Walsh clenched her teeth, wanting to say more, but her husband stopped her.
"If you really want to save Leticia, keep quiet now and let Dad handle it," he whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear.
Mrs. Walsh had no choice but to swallow her words.
At that moment, Old Walsh took a gift box from Hassan, stepped forward, and placed it on the bedside table next to him. He apologetically said, "Mr. Mercer, Dr. Deanna, I know these gifts cannot make up for the harm done to Dr. Deanna, but they are a token of my sincerity. I hope Dr. Deanna can accept them."
"Take your things and go back," Deanna coldly refused. "Like Lance said earlier, I don't need these things."
She knew very well that such an apology could not be accepted.
After all, accepting favors could obligate one in return.
Lance saw right through Old Walsh's tactics and said frostily, "Back at the Walsh family home, Leticia repeatedly caused trouble and even pushed Deanna down the stairs. We didn't hold her accountable out of respect for Old Hughes. Do you really think we are pushovers?"
Old Walsh was left speechless and could only mutter, "How could that be?"
Lance scoffed coldly, "How could it not be? Leticia still dares to act recklessly here because she thinks she has your support, doesn't she?"
At this point, Old Walsh had no defense.
The rest of the Walsh family also had nothing to say.
Seeing this, Lance spoke again coldly, "I don't know how you still have the face to plead for mercy. Leticia is clearly incorrigible. She nearly harmed Deanna before and even resorted to using a knife this time. What next? Should we wait for Leticia to kill my Deanna and you would still think she did nothing wrong?"
"Leticia would never dare to kill anyone; there must be some misunderstanding," Mrs. Walsh couldn't help but defend her daughter.
"What misunderstanding? Explain it to me," Lance demanded sharply, his dark eyes piercing.
Feeling the chilling gaze, Mrs. Walsh felt a coldness rising from her feet, making her slightly afraid.
But for her daughter's sake, she persisted, "It takes two to tango; there must be something we don't know that happened."
At this, Deanna laughed out of frustration.
"So Mrs. Walsh means to say that I provoked Leticia?"
Seeing the irony on Deanna's face, Mrs. Walsh fell silent for a moment before insisting, "My daughter may be brash, but she's not unreasonable."
Deanna's expression immediately turned cold.
"If your daughter truly understood reason, she wouldn't degrade herself by repeatedly bothering my boyfriend. It wasn't me who provoked your daughter; it was your daughter who provoked me. Am I supposed to force your daughter to come to my house and attack me?"
"I've never seen such a shameless woman before; offering herself and then not taking rejection well, following us around using various means. Her upbringing has truly been an eye-opener," Lance added mercilessly as he laid out all of Leticia's past actions.
The Walsh family members were extremely embarrassed.
They were even unaware of the many things Leticia had done behind their backs.
Especially Old Walsh, who was already preparing for the worst.
He knew that after these events, Lance and Deanna would definitely not let Leticia off this time.
Indeed that was the case.
Lance looked at the silent members of the Walsh family with a firm and cold voice, "Don't expect us to forgive Leticia; no matter what you say this time, we won't let her off!"
"Leticia is no longer a child; wrongdoings must be paid for. She is an adult and should be responsible for her actions. You can't possibly clean up her messes forever."
Deanna also made her stance clear to Old Walsh.
Old Walsh gave a bitter smile, knowing that pleading was futile.
He glanced at the gift box on the bedside table and said solemnly, "Leticia did wrong and indeed deserves punishment. I won't insist anymore, but I hope Dr. Deanna can accept this apology gift."
This time Deanna did not refuse and nodded her head.
However, Mrs. Walsh's expression grew heavier upon hearing Old Walsh's words.
Yet before she could say anything more, her husband stopped her.
