Deanna was a bit surprised when she heard this. In her view, Mrs. Mercer had a somewhat domineering personality and wouldn't usually consult her on such matters.
Lance noticed her reaction, looked down, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Your mother is Gregory and Chloe's grandmother. If she wants to take the two children, I won't stop her," Deanna replied with a sweet smile at Lance.
Unbeknownst to her, this smile was full of allure for Lance. He suddenly leaned closer, his expression serious. "I find it a waste to spend such a beautiful night talking about this. We should do something more meaningful."
"Something more meaningful?" Deanna repeated, a bit confused.
The next second, her lips were sealed by a passionate kiss. She was momentarily stunned but then wrapped her arms around Lance's neck, deepening the kiss.
As time passed, the room's temperature grew hotter. It was unclear how long it lasted before Lance finally let go of Deanna, satisfied.
By then, Deanna was so exhausted she couldn't even open her eyes. Lance carried her to the bathroom to freshen up. After a quick wash, they returned to bed.
Lance held the drowsy Deanna, gently kissed her forehead, and whispered hoarsely, "Good night."
"Good night," Deanna mumbled before falling asleep.
Watching her sweet sleeping face, Lance's eyes were full of affection. He held her tightly and closed his eyes to rest.
They had a good night's sleep.
The next morning, despite being in a new place and having been up half the night, Deanna woke up early. However, she didn't feel well; her back ached, and she frowned in discomfort.
Especially when she saw Lance looking refreshed, she felt even more unbalanced. "Why aren't you tired at all?" she asked angrily, pinching Lance's waist.
Lance winced in pain and looked down to see Deanna's disgruntled face. He couldn't help but laugh. Knowing he had gone overboard last night, he coaxed her gently, "Alright, don't be mad. I'll be more careful next time."
"You said that last time too," Deanna replied skeptically.
Lance remembered he had indeed promised that before but had failed to keep it. "I promise I'll do better this time," he said earnestly.
Deanna squinted at him and huffed, "If you don't keep your promise next time, you'll be sleeping elsewhere."
Lance had no choice but to agree. Just as he managed to appease her, they heard the children's voices outside the door.
"Daddy, Mommy, are you up yet?"
"We're up," Deanna replied and signaled Lance to open the door.
Later, after the family had freshened up, they went downstairs. In the living room, Samantha and Logan were already awake.
Seeing them come down, Samantha smiled and greeted them. "Good morning, Gregory and Chloe. Did you sleep well?"
The children ran over to her and replied sweetly, "We slept very well. How about you, Grandma?"
"I slept well too," Samantha said, smiling at their innocent words.
After some chatting and laughing, the butler announced that breakfast was ready. After eating, Lance and Deanna prepared to take the children to school.
Before leaving, Samantha remembered what they had discussed last night and signaled to Lance. "Lance, come here for a moment."
She walked to a corner of the room. Lance turned to Deanna and said, "Wait for me."
"Go ahead," Deanna said without stopping him.
Lance nodded and walked over to Samantha. She quickly asked, "Did you ask about what I mentioned last night?"
"I did. Deanna said she wouldn't stop you from seeing the children," Lance replied honestly.
Samantha sighed in relief. "That's good. You can go now."
She waved him off. Lance chuckled and returned to Deanna's side.
The children saw them coming back and asked curiously, "Grandma, what were you and Daddy whispering about?"
"We weren't whispering. Grandma was just asking if we could take you out this weekend," Samantha said with a smile.
The children believed her and were very excited. Chloe asked eagerly, "Did Daddy agree?"
"Can Mommy come too?" Gregory asked, remembering that Grandma didn't always like Mommy.
Samantha saw through his thoughts and smiled. "Of course, we'll all go together as a family."
