Lance was not surprised when he heard Deanna's question. He knew that once Deanna calmed down, she would inquire about what happened last night.
Without any hesitation, he said, "They were sent to the police station. According to the interrogation, they weren't bribed; they were just regular guests at the club, misled by disguised staff into thinking you were..."
He couldn't continue. Even so, Deanna understood, and her face turned grim.
At that moment, Lance remembered something and suddenly let out a cold snort. Deanna looked at him in confusion, silently asking what was wrong.
Lance explained, "While you were resting this morning, Xavier came by with news from the police."
"Any progress from the police?"
"No progress, but those fools are trying to accuse you of intentional injury."
Lance's eyes grew colder as he spoke. Deanna's face stiffened at his words. In yesterday's panic, she couldn't remember everything she did. Now that she thought about it calmly, she realized she had indeed injured them. But she had also been beaten by those men and almost got raped by them. With a stern face, she said, "Let them sue if they want. I will counter-sue them!"
Lance nodded in support of her resolute demeanor. "I've already asked Xavier to handle it."
"Thank you, Mr. Nelson. Once I'm better, I must thank him properly," Deanna said sincerely.
As soon as she finished speaking, Lance gave her a meaningful look. Deanna felt uneasy under his gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Lance raised an eyebrow and asked, "You're only going to thank Xavier?"
Deanna understood immediately and didn't know whether to laugh or feel exasperated. "Of course not."
"That's more like it," Lance snorted lightly.
Just then, a servant brought in dinner for them. He helped Deanna with her meal.
Meanwhile, at the Mercer family estate, Samantha and Logan were dining with the children, showing them exceptional warmth and offering various dishes.
After dinner, Logan played with the children in the garden's small playground. The children's laughter filled the garden, bringing life to the usually quiet Mercer family estate.
Samantha sat on a nearby chair, occasionally calling out to be careful. After half an hour of playing badminton with Logan, Gregory stopped. "Gramp, I don't want to play anymore."
"Why not?" Logan asked in confusion.
Chloe looked over eagerly. "Brother, why don't you want to play?"
Gregory looked helplessly at his sister who only cared about playing. "Did you forget we have homework to do?"
Chloe remembered but still wanted to play a bit longer. "Brother, let's play a little more; we can do our homework later. It's easy; we'll finish quickly."
"If Chloe wants to play more, let's play a bit longer," Samantha suggested.
However, Gregory refused firmly. "No, Mommy said we can relax and have fun appropriately but shouldn't forget our responsibilities."
He then turned to his sister and said, "If you want to play more after finishing our homework, I'll play with you then. But now we need to do our homework."
Seeing her brother's serious face, Chloe reluctantly agreed.
Gregory then smiled at his grandparents and said politely, "Grannie, Gramp, we're going to do our homework now; you enjoy yourselves."
The two elders were stunned by the child's maturity and self-discipline.
They had never seen such disciplined children before. Even after the children left, they exchanged amazed glances.
Samantha sighed, "Dr. Deanna has taught these children so well that we elders might not be needed anymore."
"Indeed, they grow up way too fast," Logan thought deeper than his wife.
He believed that besides good teaching, another significant factor for the children's behavior was their environment.
Unaware of her husband's thoughts, Samantha frowned as she recalled another matter related to Deanna. "Speaking of Dr. Deanna's injury this time being somewhat related to our Lance-now that Lance is taking care of her in the hospital-what do you think about it?"
Before Logan could respond, Gregory's anxious voice came from the garden entrance.
"Grannie! Is it true what you just said? Is my mommy injured?"
Samantha and Logan turned around in shock at Gregory's words.
Seeing Gregory standing not far away made them feel awkward for being caught in a lie.
Samantha awkwardly asked, "Gregory, why are you back?"
"Chloe's hairpin fell off; I came back to find it," Gregory replied before asking seriously again, "Grannie! What happened to my mommy?"
