"What's wrong with my health?"
Lance heard Deanna's question and raised an eyebrow, feigning ignorance.
Deanna shot him a look. "You know it. I don't even need to check your pulse to see that you've reached your limit today."
After speaking, Deanna frowned and looked displeased. "Honestly, did you not go back to rest this morning and went straight to the office?"
"..."
Lance rubbed his nose awkwardly, his eyes shifting guiltily.
Seeing this, Deanna knew the answer. She turned to Xavier and scolded, "Xavier, weren't you supposed to supervise Mr. Mercer's schedule?"
Xavier felt wronged. He spread his hands and said, "I'm just an assistant. How can I control the boss?"
His exaggerated expression made the two children laugh.
Deanna also shook her head with a smile and stopped dwelling on the matter, calling Lance to the room for treatment.
Since he hadn't rested during the day, Lance fell asleep during the treatment.
An hour later, the treatment was over. Deanna saw the man still sleeping soundly on the bed and gently pushed him.
"Mr. Mercer, wake up. The treatment is over; you can go home and rest."
"Mr. Mercer..."
Deanna called several times, but the man showed no signs of waking up.
Xavier saw this and suggested, "Dr. Deanna, why not let Mr. Mercer sleep here tonight? He barely slept last night and has been busy all day. He must be exhausted."
Hearing this, Deanna couldn't refuse. "Alright, he can sleep here tonight. I'll squeeze in with the kids."
"Thank you, Dr. Deanna," Xavier said politely.
Deanna shook her head, indicating it was no trouble, and left the bedroom.
Soon after, Xavier also left.
The two children were thrilled to learn that Lance was staying over. If not for Deanna's restraint, they would have brought their blankets and pillows to sleep next to Lance.
The next morning, Lance woke up slowly, finding the surroundings unusually pleasant.
Most importantly, he recognized the scent from Deanna.
After a moment of confusion, he realized he had stayed at Deanna's house.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Mr. Mercer, are you awake?" Xavier's voice came from outside.
Suppressing his mixed feelings, Lance replied hoarsely, "Come in."
The next second, Xavier entered with a set of clothes. "Mr. Mercer, I brought you some fresh clothes."
He handed over the clothes.
Lance nodded and asked, "Did you get breakfast?"
"Yes, it's ready outside. We're just waiting for you," Xavier responded respectfully.
Lance took the clothes and went to the bathroom to freshen up and change.
About half an hour later, he emerged from the room to find Deanna's family already seated in the living room.
"Uncle, you're up! Good morning!" Chloe ran over and hugged his leg with a smile.
Seeing her, Lance's eyes softened. "Good morning, Chloe."
Gregory also greeted him enthusiastically.
Deanna found it amusing and stood up from the sofa. "Since everyone's up, let's eat."
Lance nodded and looked at Deanna apologetically. "Sorry about last night. I was so tired that I fell asleep and took over your room."
"It's nothing. How do you feel today?" Deanna asked with concern.
Lance smiled lightly. "Much better. I feel very relaxed."
"That's good. Make sure to balance work and rest," Deanna advised.
Later, after breakfast, Lance prepared to leave.
He noticed Deanna had just recovered from her illness and offered, "I'm heading out anyway; I can take Chloe and Gregory to school."
Deanna was about to refuse when the children cheered in agreement.
"Great!"
"Mommy, we want Uncle to take us."
Seeing their eager faces, Deanna couldn't bring herself to refuse. "Alright then, thank you, Mr. Mercer."
"It's no trouble," Lance replied with a smile.
He thought to himself that taking his own children to school was never a bother.
Unaware of his thoughts, Deanna started tidying up after they left and found Lance's clothes in the bathroom.
After some hesitation, she decided to wash them.
Later, she sent Lance a message: "You forgot your clothes. Remember to take them tonight."
It was only then that Lance remembered...
