Deanna was fully engrossed in her meal, unaware that a pair of eyes were watching her from a distance.
After finishing her food, Deanna stood up. "I'm going to the restroom."
Landon nodded, "Alright."
In the restroom, Deanna stood at the sink, washing her hands. Suddenly, a shadow appeared beside her.
A woman's sarcastic voice echoed, "What a coincidence, Deanna! Fancy meeting you here!"
Deanna looked up and saw Bella standing next to her, smiling warmly.
To an outsider, it would seem like they were close friends.
Seeing Bella, Deanna was a bit surprised. She nodded and responded softly, "What a coincidence, Miss Cody."
"Deanna, are you here for a meal too?" Bella asked with a smile.
Deanna felt helpless. What else would one do at a restaurant?
But she nodded, "Yes."
"Miss Cody, is there something you need? If not, I'll be on my way."
Saying this, Deanna turned to leave.
At that moment, Bella called out again. "Wait a moment, Deanna! I want to talk to you. Is that alright?"
Bella's face held a gracious and polite smile.
Deanna stood still, her curiosity piqued.
She and Bella didn't seem to have much to discuss.
But she nodded, "Alright."
Bella led Deanna to an empty private room, and they both sat down.
Before Bella could speak, Deanna asked first. "Miss Cody, what do you want to say? Just get straight to the point."
She didn't like people beating around the bush. If there was something to say, just say it.
Moreover, she found Bella's enthusiasm rather strange.
Bella smiled and said, "It's nothing major. I heard you've been treating Lance. We only met briefly before, and we didn't get a chance to talk at the banquet. I haven't had the opportunity to thank you."
Hearing this, Deanna frowned even more.
Thank her?
She had no connection with Bella. Why would Bella thank her?
Before she could speak, Bella continued, "Deanna, please take good care of Lance's health. Rest assured, once he's well, I will definitely reward you generously."
These words sounded more like a declaration of ownership.
Deanna found it amusing. This Bella was quite interesting.
Her relationship with Lance was purely professional. These words were really odd.
Moreover, in what capacity was Bella thanking her?
Deanna spoke directly, "Miss Cody, I think you're mistaken."
"I'm treating Mr. Mercer. If anyone should thank me, it should be him personally, not you."
At this point, Bella's smile widened.
She lowered her eyes as if shy. "To be honest, our Cody and Mercer families have always considered a business marriage. So it's only natural for me to thank you. It's just a matter of time for me to marry Lance."
With these words, Deanna finally understood.
Bella was here to hint at their relationship.
Deanna smiled. How amusing.
Unfortunately for Bella, she had miscalculated. Deanna wasn't someone easily intimidated or bullied.
Bella's tactics wouldn't work on her!
She looked up and spoke in a cool tone, "Since Miss Cody mentioned a business marriage, isn't it true that there isn't one yet? Miss Cody, there's no need for such unnecessary actions."
"When you truly become the mistress of the Mercer family, then come and talk to me about this."
Deanna's light words instantly made Bella's face stiffen.
She couldn't help but clench her fists. This woman had quite the sharp tongue!
She had intended to warn her but ended up being lectured by Deanna instead.
The implication was clear: she was mocking Bella for dreaming too big before actually becoming the mistress of the Mercer family.
Bella hadn't expected Deanna to be so difficult to deal with.
Suppressing her displeasure and thinking of what to say next, Deanna's voice rang out again.
"Sorry, Miss Cody. Since we've finished talking, I'll be leaving now. My two children are waiting for me. I won't be able to chat with you any longer."
With that, Deanna stood up and left without looking back.
She had no interest in entertaining Bella's childish antics or wasting her time.
Watching Deanna leave, Bella's face darkened considerably.
Unable to contain herself, she swept her hand across the table, knocking everything over.
Deanna had some nerve!
It was the first time someone had dared to treat her this way!
Bella was furious and her hatred for Deanna grew even stronger.
