Dayton felt that Deanna was retaliating against him for keeping her grounded recently.
He looked at the tall man beside him, whose emotions were unreadable. He wanted to maintain his composure but ended up saying, "I was just joking, Mr. Mercer. You wouldn't mind, right? Besides, I saved your fiancée. If I hadn't been diving and found her, she might have died from her injuries in the sea."
"I know, which is why you are still standing here unharmed," Lance replied, his eyes dark and deep. "But you did save Deanna and my child, so I can promise you one favor. Within my capabilities, I will fulfill one request for you."
Dayton was surprised and then looked over with shining eyes. "Are you serious?"
"Yes," Lance confirmed with a nod.
Unexpectedly, Dayton excitedly stated his condition, "Great! My condition is that we race again. I've been practicing for years, and I refuse to believe I can't beat you this time. I want to redeem myself!"
Looking at the excited man not far away, both Lance and Deanna had the same thought: This man must be simple-minded to make such a request.
Even Xavier and Jack beside them were speechless.
Lance raised an eyebrow and asked, "Are you sure? Just this condition?"
"I'm sure," Dayton nodded firmly.
Seeing this, Lance said nothing more and coldly replied, "I'll notify you when I'm free to race."
Hearing this, Dayton looked suspiciously at him, "You won't just keep saying you're busy, right?"
"I, Lance, always keep my word. I'll notify you once I'm done with my current matters," Lance assured him.
After speaking, he glanced at his wristwatch and continued, "It's late now. Deanna needs to rest. If you have more to say, save it for tomorrow."
Dayton had no choice but to watch them leave.
Once in the room, Lance helped Deanna lie down on the bed.
Their eyes met in a quiet atmosphere.
Finally, Lance broke the silence first, "You seem different towards that guy just now."
"Do you think I might like him?" Deanna asked bluntly.
Lance's breath hitched, his voice hoarse, "That's not what I meant."
"It better not be," Deanna snorted softly.
Although she had lost her memory, she wasn't lacking in intelligence. She could still distinguish between liking and disliking someone. For instance, even with her amnesia, she knew at first sight that the man before her was her lover.
Thinking about it, she explained, "Don't you find him interesting? He tries to be a villain but ends up looking foolish because he's not smart enough. It's amusing and lightens my mood to tease him."
Lance didn't know what to say for a moment. He looked at Deanna with a strange expression, not expecting her to become so playful after losing her memory. Her personality was vastly different from before.
Deanna noticed his look and raised an eyebrow, "What's with that look?"
"Nothing, just that you've changed a lot," Lance admitted honestly.
Since they were essentially getting to know each other again, he needed Deanna to quickly accept him without any secrets.
Deanna was quite satisfied with his honesty and asked, "What was I like before? I asked Dayton and Jessica, but they didn't know much about my past."
"I'll tell you slowly later. For now, you need to rest, okay?" Lance reminded her that it was already late at night. He didn't want Deanna staying up late, especially since she was pregnant.
Seeing the concern in his eyes and considering her current condition, Deanna nodded and closed her eyes to rest.
She thought it would be hard to sleep under someone's watchful gaze but fell asleep quickly.
Watching the woman breathing steadily on the bed, Lance's eyes softened considerably.
He had finally found his Deanna.
Unable to contain his longing any longer, he gently got into bed and held Deanna in his arms.
Perhaps feeling secure, Deanna slept deeply and didn't notice Lance's movements.
That night, Lance stayed awake holding her, quietly watching her sleep.
He felt he could never get enough of looking at her.
...
The next morning, Deanna woke up naturally and was met with a pair of bloodshot eyes and a haggard face.
"You stayed up all night watching over me?" she asked in surprise.
Lance smiled softly as he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "I finally found you. It feels like a dream. I'm afraid that if I wake up, you'll be gone again."
