Chapter 1102: Feels Not Quite Right

Hearing her mother's words, Dayton quickly interrupted, fearing what she might think. "Mom, don't ask so much. You'll scare Kamila."

Mrs. Poole was speechless. How was she asking too much? This was basic information.

Noticing Mrs. Poole's displeasure, Deanna glanced at Dayton, signaling him to be quiet. For some reason, Dayton instinctively complied when he met Deanna's gaze.

Their little exchange did not escape Mr. and Mrs. Poole's notice. They exchanged surprised glances. It was the first time they had seen their son so obedient. It seemed this girl was truly his true love.

As they pondered, Deanna spoke up, "Because of an incident abroad, I temporarily lost my memory of the past. According to Dayton, I am an orphan."

"What kind of incident?" Dayton's parents were immediately intrigued by Deanna's words.

Deanna didn't hide anything and recounted the story Dayton had previously fabricated for her. Dayton was dumbfounded. He hadn't expected Deanna to take such an approach.

Dayton's parents' first reaction was disbelief. They looked at Dayton seriously and demanded, "What's going on here?"

"It's exactly as you heard. I know it sounds unbelievable and dramatic, but it's the truth. Because of this incident, I decided to bring Kamila to meet you. I realized I can't live without her, and she's carrying my child. Even if you disapprove of Kamila's background, I'm determined to marry her."

Dayton deliberately twisted his parents' words, steering the conversation towards their potential rejection of Kamila. He knew his parents well.

Hearing that Deanna was pregnant, Dayton's parents were both shocked and delighted.

"You rascal! Do you think we're such narrow-minded parents? Kamila is pregnant, and you still took her to the beach? Luckily nothing happened to the baby, or I'd break your legs!" Mrs. Poole scolded Dayton.

Then she softened her tone and said gently to Deanna, "Kamila, you've had a hard time these past years. This rascal must have caused you a lot of trouble."

A mother knows her child best. Her son had been causing trouble since he was young.

Deanna shook her head lightly. "I don't remember the past."

"Memory loss is fine; you'll remember eventually. What's important now is to take care of yourself and the baby," Mrs. Poole said, her eyes shining as she stared at Deanna's belly.

Deanna felt uncomfortable under her gaze.

Frankie nodded in agreement. "Your aunt is right. Once your health stabilizes, we'll arrange your wedding with Dayton."

"Uh, there's no rush for the wedding," Deanna instinctively refused.

Despite all signs pointing to Dayton's story being true, she still felt uneasy about being with him. Something felt off.

Dayton's parents were surprised by Deanna's refusal.

Mrs. Poole asked in confusion, "Why not?"

"You know I lost my memory. According to Dayton, I was planning to break up with him before the incident. Although he wants to reconcile, I still want to observe for a while," Deanna said after a moment of silence.

Hearing this, Mrs. Poole and Frankie were taken aback. They hadn't expected Deanna to hesitate at this point and couldn't help but respect her more.

Mrs. Poole understood and nodded. "Marriage is a woman's second chance at life; it should be taken seriously. I understand. But I hope you'll stay here so we can take care of you during this time. You're pregnant and just recovering from injuries; we can't let you be alone out there."

"Well..." Deanna hesitated, feeling it wasn't right.

Dayton hadn't expected his mother to be so supportive upon learning about Deanna's pregnancy, wanting to keep her close without further suspicion.

"Mom, don't be a third wheel. I want to spend quality time with Kamila and build our relationship. She'll stay with me at Maple Villa," Dayton quickly interjected, trying to dissuade Mrs. Poole.

Mrs. Poole gave him a look. "Who wants to be a third wheel? I'm worried you won't take good care of Kamila."

Despite her words, she didn't oppose further and only requested they stay home tonight.

Dayton didn't refuse.

That evening, after dinner, Deanna felt tired.

To maintain his caring persona, Dayton immediately offered support. "Are you tired? Let me help you to your room to rest."
