Chapter 1103: Something Feels Off

Upon hearing this, Deanna did not refuse. After all, her injuries had not completely healed, and the long journey back home had left her exhausted.

Mrs. Poole watched the two of them leave, still somewhat in disbelief. She had never seen her son take care of someone so attentively before. She couldn't help but sigh, "Dayton has really grown up; he knows how to care for a girl now."

"If he hasn't grown up by now, he would have lost his chance at a wife and kids," Frankie snorted, but his expression was one of satisfaction.

His words reminded Mrs. Poole of something important. "Oh no."

"What is it?" Frankie asked, noticing her sudden change in expression.

"I forgot to have the guest room prepared," Mrs. Poole said hurriedly. "Given Kamila's condition, she can't stay with Dayton. That boy is careless and might accidentally hurt Kamila and my grandchild. I need to get Dayton out of there."

Meanwhile, Deanna followed Dayton to his room. As soon as she entered, she noticed something was off. "Is this your room?"

"Yes, it is. How do you like it? I remodeled it myself when I was in high school," Dayton boasted.

Deanna looked around and said calmly, "Not bad."

She paused for a moment, then changed the subject before Dayton could speak again. "Are we staying together tonight?"

Dayton was taken aback, his expression freezing. He didn't dare stay with Deanna; if he did, he would surely incur Lance's wrath later. But how could he refuse without raising Deanna's suspicions?

As he pondered a solution, there was a knock on the door, followed by Mrs. Poole's voice. "Dayton, Kamila, may I come in?"

"Come in," Deanna responded first.

Dayton collected himself and looked up, puzzled. "Mom, what are you doing here?"

"I'm here to tell you that I've had the guest room prepared. You will stay in the guest room while Kamila sleeps here alone," Mrs. Poole said directly.

Dayton hadn't expected his mother to solve his dilemma so quickly. He was secretly pleased but pretended to object. "Mom, are you serious? You said you wouldn't interfere with us; why are you making us sleep separately?"

He had to maintain his image of being deeply in love, so he put up a token resistance.

Mrs. Poole, however, was having none of it. She grabbed his ear and scolded him, "Don't think I don't know what you're up to. I'm not interfering with your relationship, but Kamila isn't well right now. You will sleep in the guest room. If I find out you've been bothering her and hurting the baby, I'll break your legs!"

"Ouch, ouch! Mom, take it easy! At least let me save some face in front of Kamila!" Dayton winced in pain.

Mrs. Poole finally remembered Deanna was there and let go of his ear. She smiled kindly at Deanna and said, "This boy has been mischievous since he was little and only got worse as he grew up. I don't usually lose my temper like this; it's just become a habit with him."

"I understand. You've had a hard time all these years," Deanna said, fully aware of Dayton's antics.

Mrs. Poole's smile widened. "It's nothing compared to what you'll have to deal with in the future. If he misbehaves, just hit him. If he dares to fight back, tell me and his father; we'll handle him together."

"Alright," Deanna agreed, surprised by Mrs. Poole's straightforwardness.

Dayton listened to their conversation and suddenly felt a sense of impending doom. Was he digging his own grave?

In the end, under Mrs. Poole's insistence, Dayton left the bedroom. Once outside, he breathed a sigh of relief; at least for now, he didn't have to worry about maintaining his image.

Just then, Mrs. Poole spoke earnestly to him. "Now that you have a family, after a few days of rest, you should start working at the company with your father."

"I don't want to," Dayton refused without hesitation. The thought of a routine job was unbearable to him.

Mrs. Poole looked at her unambitious son and wished she could put him back in her womb and start over. She wasn't one to hold back; she grabbed his ear again and scolded him, "You don't want to? Do you want Kamila to leave you for good?"

"Ouch! Mom, why are you grabbing my ear again?" Dayton pleaded.

Mrs. Poole didn't relent. "You will go to the company whether you like it or not! Kamila won't reconcile with you because you're aimless and lazy. If I weren't your mother, I wouldn't want Kamila wasting her life with you either!"
