In less than two minutes, Dayton knocked on the door outside the room.
"Come in..."
A weak voice came from inside.
Dayton pushed the door open and saw a woman sitting on the bed reading a book.
The woman was Deanna.
At this moment, her face was very pale, and her dark eyes curiously examined Dayton.
The man was quite handsome, making her wonder about his identity.
Dayton also scrutinized Deanna.
Undeniably, this woman was more beautiful than any he had ever dated.
Her small face was perfectly proportioned, with delicate features, especially her bright eyes that were full of life.
Moreover, the aura she exuded was comforting.
No wonder Lance was drawn to her.
However, no matter how beautiful she was, she was still wasted on a man like Lance.
Dayton thought to himself but showed no sign of it on his face. Instead, he asked with concern, "When I came back just now, Jack told me you lost your memory?"
Jack was the butler downstairs.
Deanna frowned slightly and corrected in a hoarse voice, "I just can't remember things temporarily."
"How is that different from amnesia?"
Dayton muttered under his breath.
Because his voice was too low, Deanna only heard him say something but couldn't catch the content. She looked over and asked, "What did you just say?"
"Nothing, just wondering how you could lose your memory from simply falling into the sea."
Dayton feigned confusion while observing Deanna.
Hearing his words, Deanna realized this man might know the reason for her amnesia.
The next second, she asked several questions in a row, "You said I fell into the sea. Why did I fall? Also, what is my identity? What is my name?"
As she asked these questions, Deanna's eyes were fixed on Dayton, not wanting to miss any change in his expression.
Dayton met her gaze, aware that she was observing him. He tried hard not to reveal any emotions.
"You didn't fall into the sea. I didn't explain it clearly earlier. We were out at sea when we encountered pirates. They wanted to capture you, and in a panic, I pulled you into the sea. This angered the pirates, and they shot at us. You got hit several times protecting me. Fortunately, I can dive and managed to escape with you underwater. We were rescued by a patrolling coast guard."
Dayton spun a detailed tale.
He also looked at Deanna with deep emotion and said gratefully, "Even though you got shot, you were saved in time. Not only are you okay, but our child is also fine. I regret taking you out to sea; I almost lost you and our child."
Despite the man's affectionate look, Deanna felt no emotional stirrings inside.
She frowned slightly without showing it. According to this man, they should be in a relationship.
But for some reason, something felt off to her.
Dayton noticed Deanna's skeptical expression and decided to confront it directly, "You don't believe what I'm saying?"
"A little bit. After all, I have amnesia. The truth is whatever you say it is."
Deanna didn't deny it and met his gaze.
Dayton was momentarily speechless, thinking how difficult this woman was and how smart she seemed.
Even so, he didn't plan to abandon his scheme and argued, "That's not fair. Who would want to be a father to someone else's child?"
Deanna was momentarily at a loss for words.
Seeing her speechless, Dayton quickly adjusted his plan and then adopted an apologetic tone, admitting, "Alright, it seems you've lost your memory but retained your intelligence. I did hide some things from you. Before we went out to sea, you wanted to break up with me. I didn't want to, so I suggested one last trip together to win you back. But the pirate attack was real. If you don't believe me, I can contact the coast guard who saved us."
Hearing this and seeing Dayton's sincere demeanor, Deanna's doubts began to fade.
After all, mentioning the coast guard seemed genuine.
No wonder she felt nothing for this man; she had already decided to break up with him.
The man's voice rang in her ears again.
"Kamila, I know I've been irresponsible in the past. But I've never done anything seriously wrong or cheated on you. I just liked having fun. My feelings for you are real. For the sake of our child, can we not break up?"
Dayton poured all his acting skills into his performance, even trying to squeeze out a few tears as he continued his heartfelt plea, "I know you have feelings for me too; otherwise, you wouldn't have saved me in the sea. I promise I'll work hard from now on and stop being so aimless."
