Gunner heard the commotion and looked up, frowning as he saw the two of them. "Why are you back so late?" he asked, pausing to glance behind them, not seeing the person he was hoping for.
Lance noticed his action and lowered his eyes. "Deanna wasn't brought back, and Eula ran away."
"Ran away?"
Gunner looked at him in shock, his frown deepening. "What happened?"
Lance didn't hide anything and briefly explained the situation.
In the end, he promised, "I could let her go, and I can bring her back."
"You can bring her back, but I'm afraid Deanna can't wait!"
Gunner spoke irritably. He could understand Lance letting Eula go, but this wasn't how favors were repaid.
Lance pressed his lips tightly together and then said in a cold voice, "She wouldn't dare harm Deanna fatally. She's not a fool. As long as Deanna is alive, she can live. If anything happens to Deanna, she knows I won't let her go."
Hearing this, Gunner wanted to ask, what if? He knew that when a woman is consumed by jealousy, she can do anything without considering the consequences.
But seeing Lance's pale face, he couldn't bear to push him further. He waved his hand and said, "Forget it. You've been running around all day. Go rest in your room. We'll talk about it tomorrow."
Lance didn't move.
He looked at Gunner with concern and asked, "How were Grandma and the kids after I left today?"
"Deanna's grandma was very emotional. She even fainted in the afternoon. I gave her some acupuncture to stabilize her temporarily, but I'm afraid she'll break down again when she wakes up tomorrow. As for Gregory and Chloe..."
Gunner sighed deeply before continuing, "The kids overheard from Grandma that something might have happened to Deanna. They were clearly very sad and worried but held back their fears to avoid distracting us. They even comforted Grandma. It was only when they returned to their room that they cried under the covers. It's heartbreaking. You must find Deanna quickly, or I'm afraid their health will deteriorate from such sadness."
Lance nodded, feeling even heavier.
He signaled Xavier to take him upstairs.
However, he didn't go to his room immediately but went to the children's room instead.
The nightlight by the bed was on, casting a warm glow throughout the room.
Lance wheeled himself to the bedside and saw the two children sleeping together.
Their eyelashes were still wet with tears.
Lance raised his hand to wipe them away.
Unexpectedly, the children woke up suddenly.
Seeing Lance by the bed, they immediately sat up and asked anxiously, "Daddy, you're back! Is Mommy back?"
"Great-grandma said something might have happened to Mommy. I'm so worried about her."
Hearing their worried words, Lance didn't know how to respond.
The children weren't stupid. Seeing his reaction, they guessed the answer and started crying uncontrollably again.
Chloe grabbed Lance's hand and cried heartbrokenly, "Daddy, I don't want anything to happen to Mommy. Please bring her back."
"Daddy, I'm scared," Gregory said, trembling as he looked at Lance.
Listening to their cries made Lance's already aching heart feel like it was being torn apart. His eyes reddened.
But in front of the children, Lance couldn't show his vulnerability.
He hugged them tightly and said in a low voice, "Don't cry. Daddy will definitely bring Mommy back."
No matter the cost.
...
Meanwhile, Eula had finally returned to her base after escaping from international waters.
She was more disheveled than ever in her years of power.
Her once smooth and long hair was half burnt off.
Her clothes were torn and burnt in places, with bloodstains visible on them.
Avery saw her condition and felt heartbroken for her while harboring intense hatred for Lance. "Master, give me the order to assassinate Lance."
"You? I'm telling you, you wouldn't even touch his clothes before his guards caught you!"
Eula snorted and warned him, "Don't cause trouble for me. Lance is more cunning than you or I can imagine. If I hadn't made extra arrangements today, I wouldn't have escaped his grasp."
Avery felt indignant.
"Even if Lance is formidable, you're no less capable."
"Enough. I know you want to stand up for me, but I don't need it now. Besides, I have my eyes on this man and don't want a mortal enemy with him."
Eula interrupted him impatiently.
Avery couldn't help but complain, "You don't want a mortal enemy with him, but I doubt Lance will let you go. There are so many men in the world; why must it be him? And you lost your chance at motherhood for him."
He felt it was unworthy for his master.
