Chapter 64 Chapter 64

Chapter 64 Chapter 64
Kael’s pov

“What’s the next case?” I muttered tiredly as an elder walked up to the throne with a smile on his face.

“The case of the person who burnt the healers tent.”

“I’m not reviewing that case.”

“Alpha… are you sure you don’t want to know who…”

“Whoever it is can stay there. The dungeon will give this bastard a time to reflect on their terrible actions. I’m not going to pardon anyone.”

The people of the court exchanged looks before I see for them to be quiet and hear me out.

“I have an announcement to make,” this shut them up as I went on. “As you all may have seen, I lost Selene a couple of days ago but got her back today when I went to her yesterday to ask that she returns to the pack. We are together now.”

They all started to clap as I waved them down.

“Now that she is back, some of you would be asking why I have done this. Well… it is because I have built a relationship with Selene that I have built with no one else. And that is why everything that I did to her hurt me. So… this might not be news but… our wedding will commence on the next red moon that is six months away.”

They exchange looks with some elders stepping forward.

“As much as we are happy for you alpha,” one of them started. “I have to say that this is… a bit concerning.”

“And why is that?”

“Well you see… you’ve not really had a great relationship with her for a while now. Are you sure starting up another marriage like this is necessary?”

“She is the one I want. Why do you question my decision?”

Another elder bowed and stepped forward. “This might not be my place but before we go on, we have to ask one very important question.”

“Ask.”

“Is she your mate?”

That question shattered the entire conversation. How could I answer this? I couldn’t exactly tell them my true mate was some lowly omega.

No. That secret had to die with me.

“Why do you ask me that?”

“Well… if she is your mate we can then understand why you do what you do. We decided to be wary of your decisions after you left her at the altar the other day. We only want to stop you from making decisions that could lead to a…”

“She is the one I want to be with,” I blurted, interrupting the elder from completing his words. I wasn’t going to let these old elders tell me what to do with my life. I would handle things my way. However it is going to be, I would handle it.

The elder noticed that I was tired of the questions as he bowed and let me be.

I looked at my beta who was standing by my side as I waved him to come close.

He did, giving me the files that I wanted as I waved it around.

“This is a pardon that I am giving to the elders who had tried to sell the omega. They are free to stay out of the dungeon. They can go about their lives. But they can no longer work as elders.”

Some of the elders started to complain as I held my hand up which shut them up immediately.

“ I am doing this not because I want to do this, but because my beta has told me that it’s not right for me to listen to a rogue, even though the evidence provided is against the elders. I have to remind you all that selling one of your own, be they Omega, Gamma, or whoever is not right. It’s a law that we have upheld for hundreds of years. Starting now to sell your own people not only shows a backwardness we have never dealt with before, but it also shows that we don’t have the unity that we always preach to have.

They exchanged looks as I got to my feet, dropping the file on the table by my side, “they are free to work in any other office in the pack, as long as it’s not a high ranking one. Any court position is closed to them and the elders position is closed as well. General position is closed and any position that has to deal with them being above others. After all, they have shown that if they are above others, they will not be able to handle things with care. They will not be able to understand that there’s a level of empathy you need for positions like that. I have pardoned them. I’ve done my job. It is your job as elders to know whether you will uphold the rule and uphold the law or you’d go ahead and mess things up. Now, does anyone have any questions?”

The shook their heads as I smiled.

“Good. The meeting is adjourned. Whatever we need to discuss should be given to my beta who will then give it to me. For now, I need to rest. This trip has taken a huge toll on me.”

I waved them off as they walked out while I fell back on my throne with my beta coming to stand before me.

“You handled that well.”

I chuckled looking at him. “You think I didn’t have the urge to kick all of them out the moment they started to complain? Besides, I ended the meeting on time because I need to go over to the healers tent and see how things are going there.”

He raised a brow, “why?”

“I have someone there.”

He gave me a heavy sigh. “I’m sorry to say this, my Alpha but if you’re going there because of Eliara, I would advise you to think again.”

“Why would I want to do that?”

He got close to me, “she is the one who burnt the healers tent.”

“Excuse me.”

“Yes, she’s the one who burned it and she was carted away to the dungeon.”

I was shocked hearing that.
