Chapter 55 Chapter 55
Dorian’s pov
I walked to the quarters of Elder Vienna, one of the elders who Kael had thrown into the dungeon as I found his family members going about their daily business that morning.
They looked at me with fear in their eyes as I nodded to them, then knocked on the door. I heard laughing inside as the door opened, and I saw Vienna, staring at me with flushed cheeks and a bottle of whiskey in his hands, he had been drinking.
I couldn’t blame him, after all he had gone through a lot. It was normal to drink, especially in trying times like this.”
“Beta Dorian,” he said, as I looked away from him to see his family members going out for work before I turned to him.
“it seems you’re not going out for work with your family.”
He scoffed. “I used to be an elder,” he said, staggering about before leaning to the jamb of his door. “I used to serve this pack and suddenly I am no longer an elder, so you tell me beta Dorian, how it feels to serve this pack with everything within you and then you get thrown away by the ALPHA because you are no longer that important.”
I sighed, then looked past him to see that he was not drinking alone. He had a few friends around, some of were elders who actively worked in the pack, and the others a few judges from the council meetings we usually had. I smiled at him.
“Can you tell everyone to leave? I need to talk to you alone.”
He looked behind, then gestured for them to leave as they all started to their feet, then stumbled out of the building while he led me inside.
I entered as he closed the door before turning on the lights, which was a little bit brighter than the sun outside.
“I see you got the latest lights from the neighboring packs,” I said as he nodded.
“I did it with my salary I had incurred over my years working as an elder, but apparently it’s trashed now because I can’t keep the electricity bills up, so I’m using it for the last time before I turn it off.”
I leaned against the wall watching him stumble around his house before I rubbed my hands over my face in frustration, “shouldn’t you at least try to do something for yourself?”
He chuckled and looked at me, his eyes widening with anger. “I’ve tried everything beta Dorian. I have tried to be the best elder that I can be.”
I pointed to the door behind me, “You don’t know that whatever you say, that your actions are contradicting whatever you were saying.”
He waved me away, “if it’s because of me selling that Omega, of course I would sell her. It wasn’t like she was that important like to the pack.”
I unfolded my arms, then straightened up to face him.
“You shouldn’t have done that without consulting me first.”
He shrugged, “if I had consulted you, what would that have done? All you would have done would be to tell me that I am going over my head doing what I’m doing to the omega and I should be careful.”
I smiled, “and for good reason, you should not have gone after the Omega. Now you’re going to stay here and think about all the things you’ve done because that is what the Alpha wants you to do. You’re even lucky to be alive. I pulled the strings and got you out of the dungeon along with the three other elders that you had been conniving with. Now I have to do things on my own.”
He didn’t say anything, but looked at the bottle of whiskey in his hands, which he dropped on the glass table with a clank sound, and then he turned to me.
“What do you want for me?” He asked as I shrugged.
“It’s very simple. I need you to apologize to the Alpha for your actions.”
He chuckled slowly before bursting out into a full maniacal laugh then he shook his head. “I’m not doing that.”
I raised a brow. “You don’t want your job as an elder of the pack?
He nodded slowly, “I do want my job as an elder of the pack, but you know what I don’t want. I don’t want to embarrass myself and then later I’ll find out that I can’t get that job.”
“Elder Vienna…” I started to say as he shook his head, holding his hands up to stop me from saying much.
“…you’ve tried for me Dorian, but this is where I will draw the line. I did what I had to do for the prosperity of this pack, and if it meant selling her off and getting enough money so that I could use it to better my life and the lives of other people’s families who are very important to this pack I will do it again, and I will do it without even blinking, so if the alpha will be sour for what I did then let him be sour because trust me I do not care.”
I looked into his eyes to see that he truthfully did not care about the consequences of his actions. I didn’t know whether telling him about my discoveries with the Omega would be a great choice, but I knew that if I told him anything he would tell other people and I didn’t want him going around spreading news that could get me in trouble and ruin my plans, so I kept my news to myself.
“So why are you here to see me?” He asked as I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I came here to know if you’ve told anybody about my involvement with you and the other elders.”
He shook his head. “None of us would be crazy enough to go against you Dorian, even with our loyalty to this pack and to the Alpha we’d rather die. Besides, you were there when I told you that day in your room that you are our one true Alpha, our loyalty is to you so what makes you think we’d go against you?”
Him saying that actually gave me more morale to know that I had allies in this pack, whether they were current workers or disgruntled workers who had been kicked off the board.
I nodded slowly then turned to the door.
“I will be leaving now. You should take care. I will talk to the Alpha to reinstate your position.”
His eyes lit up with an excitement, but I held my hand up. “However, you will have to beg the alpha when I tell you to.”
He wanted to protest, but I opened the door and stood there, letting the fresh breeze from outside get in, “be prepared to beg.”
With that as my closing words, I walked out of the house.
