Chapter 53 Chapter 53
Chapter 53 Chapter 53
Eliara’s pov
I clinched my fists beside me. Fighting her was going to be a huge failure. She would win.
Her brother was in the warriors guild. He was strong enough to take even a rogue down. I was just a scrawny little girl. I would struggle to lift a heavy table.
She tossed a broom at me and chuckled. “I order you to clean the entire place up.”
“But…”
“No buts. Clean the beakers, sweep the grounds and wash the dolls. They are filthy. Make sure to use water and soap. Don’t use ordinary rags. Water and soap. Push them in. Submerge them. Am I clear?”
“But… aren’t the dolls… electronic?”
She opened her mouth to argue before she looked past me and gasped. Everyone then bowed.
“Beta Dorian,” I heard her say as I froze where I was.
What was he doing here?
I didn’t turn to see him. I just stood there staring at everyone bowing in my direction.
“Everyone out, except the omega,” his voice rang out. “I need to talk to her.”
They all straightened up with Helga giving me threatening looks before she walked out, leaving me still frozen in my stead.
The moment everyone was gone, he closed the door behind him and walked slowly around the class. I got his scent before I could see him. He had on his traditional beta robe which gave him a kind of aura that was reserved for someone of his position.
“I don’t get the idea of teaching with dolls when we can easily capture rogues and tear them apart. Would you agree that live teaching is better?”
I gulped and kept silent which didn’t bode well for my confidence.
He sat down in Mara’s chair at the front of the class then placed his boots on the table, crossing them like he owned the place.
“I hear you’re having a very difficult time getting acquainted with your peers? Do you want me to help you in that regards?”
There was a catch. There had to be one.
“Why would you want to do anything for me? I’m just a lowly omega remember?”
He chuckled lightly, his voice rumbling through the class as he threw his legs off the table and shot to his feet.
He pointed to the window.
“I know what it feels like being bullied. My father went through the same treatment so I know. You on the other hand can have a much simpler life. All you need to do is work with me and I’ll make your life in this pack so much easier.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. What was he playing at? This was a trick. It had to be.
His voice was silky smooth. He was lying. I could fell.
“Have you heard that Selene is no longer in this pack?” He said which had my brows furrowing. “Some people are saying it’s because of you.”
I looked down to the ground. “But I didn’t do anything.”
“Of course you didn’t,” he chuckled. “It’s not stopping them from blaming you. After all, you’re the only scapegoat we’ve got in this place.”
I fiddled with the hem of my shirt as he walked up to me, his scent suffocating me.
Slowly, his cold hand came up to my chin which had me shuddering away from him.
His eyes looked me up and down in a lustful way.
“You and I are not so different you know,” he smiled, putting his hands behind him in an aristocratic way. “I have been wronged so many times and yet I still serve the pack. You have all the power you have and get people still treat you like trash. Work with me and you won’t regret it. I’m giving you a chance to do something for yourself.”
I looked at him. He looked like a friend and spoke like one. But was he truly a friend?
“So what say you? Will you work with me or will you be in my way?”
The contrast between the room where he had put a knife to my throat and now where he was asking for my input was huge. He was playing with me psychologically. Trying to break me. But I had grown up in a pack that had played these games over and over again to me.
I wasn’t going to be led around like this.
“Beta Dorian,” someone said behind as I heaved a sigh of relief, turning to see Mara standing there.
She was my savior. I couldn’t believe I was so glad to see her there.
She came in and stood by my side with a fake smile on her face.
“What brings you here?”
He shrugged. “I wanted to see how the omega was adjusting to the new world of healers. That’s all.”
Mara chuckled. “She is doing well. Is that all you came for?”
He looked at me, his eyes loosing the warmth from before. “Of course.”
I could tell he was mad at the interruption.
“Anyway,” he exhaled loudly. “I’ll be leaving now. Carry on.”
With that, he walked out without turning back.
The moment he left, I breathed a sigh of relief, not realizing I had been holding my breath for that long.
“What did he truly want?” She asked me with worry on her brows.
“Nothing,” I lied. I didn’t know whose side she was on yet. This might be one of his tricks. To get me to lay down my guard then strike when I least expect it.
She looked around. “Since this place is a mess and you’re the only one here, you’ll be the one cleaning up today.”
I nodded and went to take an empty bucket as I carried one of the dolls and headed for the door.
“What the bloody hell are you doing?” She asked in panic as I looked at her.
“I want to get water and soap and clean the dolls?”
“Are you mad?! The dolls are electronic devices and they are really expensive. They only need special rags to be used on them. Who told you to clean them with water and soap?”
“Helga.”
“She was messing with you. Please drop the dolls. I’ll clean them myself.”
I nodded and went to drop it. Helga wanted me to get into trouble. This was her tactic from what I was seeing.
It turned out that I had no choice but to stay out of her way to avoid being a victim.
