Chapter 128: Going to war

Chapter 128: Going to war

Cara Pov

After a while, probably hours, I stopped crying, but the pain was still there. Debby was my friend, kind and gentle. She had told taughte me a lot about my abilities, what i am, and she was the one who discovered my secret identity, and then taught some basics she knew. She didn't deserve this.

Garreth placed a hand on my shoulder, his grip firm. “We’re going to get through this, Cara. Together. But you can’t keep running from it. You can’t keep running from yourself, pull the bull by the horn, Cara.”

I nodded slowly, wiping my face. “I’ll try.”

“That’s all we ask,” he said with a small smile.

I turned back to the forest, the grief still there but no longer unbearable. “How did she die”

“The knife she was stabbed with prevented her from healing, and she couldn't heal herself. She died of blood loss due to losing too much blood.” Garreth said, with a hard expression.

I could tell that he was affected so much. He was going through a lot, and as the alpha now, he has to put up a brave front in tot

her to lead the people. From his sluggish shoulders and dull eyes, you could tell that he was indeed bearing his pains silently.

“We will fight…, fight for our survival.”

“Yes Cara, any of them that crosses our territory will not leave alive” he swore. Vehemently.

I shook my head. “We won't wait here for them to come and fight us. We will bring the fight to them. I want to destroy the Alpha blacks pack, and the Alliance of the Four Alphas. We will destroy the council and then march towards the western district of Ellorin to wage war.”

“Western district? We can't wage war on them, Cara, we are not powerful enough” Garreth had a terrified look in his eyes.

“Why?”

“We just can't,” he replied, but his hesitation and conflicted look didn’t escape my notice.

“I understand your fear,” I told him, “but his forces have been spread thin, the western district security will be laxed by now.”

Garreth had a troubled expression, which I didn't understand, but I let it slide. We all have been through tough times so having swings is understandable.

“Besides, Brian is Alive” I revealed,

What!!, I thought…, where is he, how did you know?”.

“I felt it from the bond, he was trying to tell me something, but he is in pain wherever he is”.

I said my voice breaking at the end.

“Don't worry Cara, we will find him, I trust Brian, he is much stronger than you or anybody thinks he is.”

I nodded, choosing to believe his words. I pray that wherever he is he is safe. But the pain I received from the bond. It was real pain, like someone using needles prick open once skin. Was it what brian was going through, I shuddered at the thought.

A sense of urgency filled my body. I always had this prickling feeling that Brian was suffering and if I didn’t find him, it might be late.

“Luna, what should we do next?” Garreth's next words brought me out of my scary thoughts.

“Gather everyone that has power in the pack, the commanders and the trope leaders, all of them.”

“Yes Luna,” Gqrreth answered respectfully before, melting into the shadows, to carry out the task.

I stood on the small hill, overlooking the pond that was underneath, immersing into the beauty and tranquility of the cool calm waters. A deep contrast to the boiling burst of emotions that is threatening to overwhelm me.

Debby was gone, but her memory would stay with me. And I would carry her strength with me, no matter what came next.

The tension in the air can be cutted with a knife. All the commanders had gathered, and from the look on their faces they would have preferred to be somewhere else than here. The long table in the center of the room was lined with battle-worn faces, Emily and Emma were seated near the middle, flanked by their mates, the two of them had risen to the position of commander, a testament to their strength. the remaining commanders filled the rest of the seats. At the head of the table, I sat, my back straight, my hands resting on the polished wood, my gaze steady.

The only elder left, a frail yet sharp-eyed man, sat quietly at the far end of the table. His presence reminded me of all we had lost, out of four elders of mafian wolf pack, two had betrayed the pack, and Emelda, well the story was that she was also a traitor too, because she had disappeared from the pack. But only I knew her truth, she was the leader of the Cupbearers, the secret thread connecting me to a bloodline I was still coming to terms with.

The murmurs of conversation finally quieted as I cleared my throat, the sound cutting through the noise like a blade.

“We won the battle,” I began, my voice steady but laced with authority, “but the war is far from over.”

Eyes turned to me, some filled with respect, others with skepticism and anger. I didn’t mind. I’d grown used to being doubted, and I’d learned how to command even the most unwilling of hearts from my training in the cupbearers community.

I took a deep breath, locking eyes with each person at the table before continuing. “Brian is alive.”

The room erupted in chaos.

“He’s alive?” one commander exclaimed, disbelief coloring his tone.

“How do you know?” another demanded.

Voices overlapped, questions and accusations flying like arrows. Some looked relieved, others angry, and a few even wary.

“I know because I can feel him,” I said firmly, cutting through the noise. “Brian is out there, and he’s in trouble. That much, I am certain of.”

Emily leaned forward, her expression a mix of hope and concern. “But where is he? Do you know?”

I shook my head. “No. And that’s why we need to act first. The rogues were just the beginning. The perpetrators are from the western district, we all know their true aim, to take. They are led by who they call the master. He has taken control of half of the eastern district. If we’re going to find Brian, and prevent this calamity, we need to start by reclaiming the territories that have fallen under his rule.”

A murmur spread through the room, commanders exchanging uneasy glances.

“You want us to go to war?” one of the older commanders asked, his tone laced with doubt.

“Yes,” I replied without hesitation. “We can’t sit idle while the Master tightens his grip on Ellorin. If we wait, we’ll be crushed. We need to strike first.”

The hall was thrust into a battlefield of argument. It was as fierce as the battle we’d just survived. Some argued that we were too weak, that we needed time to recover. Others, like Emily and Emma, supported the plan, their loyalty unwavering.

“how are we to trust you” one commander asked, “last we know you were the person that caused this whole thing”.

The arguments grew louder, following what the elders said, many in support of him. My patience wore thin, and a spark of irritation flared in my chest.

Then, it happened.

A burst of power surged from me, an aura so intense it silenced the room instantly. The air grew heavy, and every head turned toward me, eyes wide with shock and awe.

“Enough,” I said, my voice calm but commanding, echoing with a power that wasn’t entirely mine.

The room fell into a stunned silence, the weight of my aura pressing down on everyone like an invisible hand. I stood, my gaze sweeping over the table.

“I am your Luna,” I said, my tone firm and unyielding. “And as your Luna, I am telling you that we will prepare for war. I cannot betray you. We will take back what is ours, and we will find Brian. No more arguments. No more doubts. This is not a request. it is a command.”

For a moment, no one spoke. The silence was deafening, but it wasn’t empty. It was filled with the unspoken acknowledgment of my authority, of the strength I had claimed and the destiny I was stepping into.

Finally, Garreth, who had been silent until now, rose from his seat. His eyes met mine, and he gave a small nod. “You heard the Luna,” he said, his voice steady. “Prepare for war.”

One by one, the commanders stood, their faces a mix of determination and respect. Emily and Emma were among the first, their loyalty shining like a beacon. Even the elder gave a solemn nod, his approval a silent agreement of my plan.

the commanders began filing out, I remained at the head of the table, my hands gripping its edge. The weight of what I had just done pressed down on me, but I refused to waver.

This was my path now.

I had claimed my role as Luna, not just in name but in power. And I would lead this pack, not just for Brian, but for all of us. For survival. For vengeance. For hope.

The battle for the Mafian Wolf Pack was over. But the war for Ellorin was just beginning.
