Chapter 11 Too Expensive
Mia thought that she was going to get used to the Alpha’s demeanor, but each moment was a revelation of the many characters he possessed.
“Miss?” Rena said as soon as she walked up to her, and she turned to look at her.
“Shall we?” Rena’s voice was low, almost begging her to go with her.
Reluctantly, Mia made the first move, and then she waited for Rena to lead the way.
Russell chuckled softly and stared until they were out of sight.
Then he pulled out his phone and sat in one of the couches by the corner, operating the device slowly.
His eyes had been glued to the screen for almost thirty minutes that he almost didn’t hear the footsteps approaching slowly.
Gently, he lifted his head, his eyes widening as he beheld the sight before him.
“Oh my!” He gasped, putting the phone aside.
“I almost didn’t recognize you, Mia.” He chuckled softly, pushing himself up from the couch.
He took a step forward, his eyes sparking with admiration.
“I was right when I said you looked like the moon goddess, Mia.” He couldn’t get his eyes off her until after a while, turning to face Rena who was standing by the side, pleased with herself.
Mia would have been grateful for the compliment, but it was coming from her greatest enemy.
She merely forced a smile for the sake of courtesy, and then she looked down at the blue dress that hugged her curvy body, pushing her gaze lower to the luxury heels that she was certain cost a fortune.
She was almost perfect, if not for the bandages around her head, and the plasters on her face.
But her beauty still radiated, shining brightly like the moonlight.
While the Alpha was still gushing all over her, they were joined by someone else who seemed to be in a hurry, panting as soon as he got close to them.
He nervously bowed to the Alpha, panting from several minutes of running. “I am sorry I took forever, Alpha Russell!” He paused for a while in an attempt to catch his breath, and then he went further to explain.
“I needed the authorization of Mr. Throne. He wasn’t taking his calls.” His voice was shaky, etched with nervousness.
Russell nodded, looking down at him.
“That’s okay. Let me have it.” He demanded, and the middle-aged man presented the red box to him.
The box was bordered with real golden plates, and it was obvious that whatever was inside was not ordinary.
Russell opened the box, revealing the pearl necklace to Mia.
“This is the moonlight pearl, Mia. The only one left in the entire world.”
Rena’s asked sparked with instant recognition, her lips parting without any word coming out.
Mia was speechless, her eyes almost unable to contain the luxury of the necklace.
Looking up at Russell, she swallowed hard, taking a deep breath.
Her heart was beating speedily while she was almost out of breath.
“Why are you giving this to me?” She asked, her wide eyes begging for a response.
“Because you deserve it, Mia.” Russell pulled out the necklace and pushed the box into the hand of the middle-aged man.
He didn’t wait for Mia’s consent, he just put it on her, adjusting slowly after he had locked it behind her neck.
“There.” He moved in front of her, eyes on the pearl necklace.
“Perfect.” He chuckled softly, turning to the man standing beside him and holding onto the box as though it still contained the necklace.
“Thank you, Will. You may leave.”
Will bowed and was about to walk away when the Alpha pointed to the box.
“Leave it on the couch.”
“Oh.” Will did as he was told, and then he left, but not without taking a glance at Mia.
Just like Rena, he was curious to know who the strange girl with bandages around her head was.
Mia sighed heavily, and then she moved her hands to the back of her neck.
“I can’t accept this.” She shook her head, attempting to take off the necklace.
Russell sighed. “Why?”
“Because it’s too expensive, Alpha Russell. I heard this is more than ten million dollars.”
“You are correct.” Russell furrowed his brow, and then he took a deep breath.
“It is an offence to reject a gift from your Alpha, Mia.”
Mia tutted. “You are not my Alpha.” She strained to take off the necklace, but because she couldn’t see the hook, it was difficult for her.
So she stopped straining, turning to Rena slowly.
“Help me take it off.” She begged, but Rena wouldn’t dare.
She turned to Russell, her lips slowly vibrating.
“I…” She stuttered, attempting to catch her breath.
Russell scoffed. “Leave us, Rena.” He ordered, and Rena was glad to sprint away at once without looking back.
Mia grunted, and then she resumed her attempts to remove the necklace.
She had her eyes on Russell, and after a while, she grunted, realizing that she was never going to succeed.
“Can you take this off, Alpha Russell?” She inched closer to the Alpha and turned her back to him.
“There is no way I am accepting a gift from my enemy.” She said coldly, maintaining her frown.
Russell nodded, and then he took a step forward.
When Mia felt his hand on the necklace, she was convinced that he was about to take it off, but that didn’t seem like the case.
Russell moved his hand from the necklace, causing her to turn to him slowly, her eyes wide with inquisition.
“Why did you stop?”
“Because…” Russell paused, and then he took a deep breath.
“If you really want me to take off the necklace, then you will accept the condition I am about to give you.”
“What condition?” Mia asked before he could finish, showcasing readiness to do away with the expensive jewelry hanging on her neck.
