Chapter 12 The Necklace
It didn’t matter how long it was going to take, she was willing to wait to hear what the Alpha was going to say.
"Go out with me tonight, Mia. That’s the only way I am going to let you return the necklace.” Russell’s demand was straightforward, his countenance holding onto the smile that appeared before he broke his silence.
Mia cleared her throat, looking him in the eyes.
“You are joking, right?” She looked him in the eyes like she was trying to read his mind.
“Nope, I am not joking.” Russell shook his head, holding onto his smile.
“Go out with me tonight, and I will let you return the necklace.”
“No way.” Mia stood her ground, glaring at the Alpha.
“There is no way I am going out with my enemy. Not in this world, and not even in the next.” Her eyes sparked with annoyance, her right fist clenched in annoyance.
Russell scoffed, piercing into her eyes. “It’s very simple then.” He took a deep breath, and then he pointed to the necklace.
“You will get to keep the necklace, and you will continue to wear it until you take your last breath.”
“What?!” Mia gasped, rolling her eyes at him. “Are you trying to turn me into your slave or what?”
“Never, Mia. I would never do that.” Russell paused for a while, and a wry smile appeared slowly on his face.
“You have one of two options to take, Mia. It’s either you go out with me tonight, or you keep the necklace. The choice is yours.”
Mia growled inwardly clenching her other fist. “Maybe you shouldn’t have saved me that night, Alpha Russell.”
Russell scoffed. “Is this the gratitude that you are going to show me, Mia? Those miscreants were going to take turns having a piece of you.”
“You don’t have to remind me,” Mia grunted, and then he sighed heavily.
She looked at the Alpha for a few seconds, and then she shifted her eyes to the necklace.
Her expression was twisted, laced with a little bemusement.
“Take your time, Mia,” Russell whispered, and then he sat down on the couch, placed his right leg on the left, and cupped his jaw with both hands.
Mia took a deep breath, her eyes slowly moving to the necklace hanging on her neck.
Just then, Rena walked passed alongside two ladies in uniform.
They were carrying big shopping bags, each having to hold at least three carefully.
Mia watched as they sauntered hurriedly out of the building, each secretly stealing a glance at her.
When she returned her gaze to the Alpha, she saw that he was busy with his phone, swiping and scrolling and seeming like he had all the time in the world.
“What is this?” Mia muttered and waited to see if the Alpha was going to look up at her, but his eyes were glued to the device.
She sighed heavily, and as soon as she cleared her throat, Russell’s attention was drawn to her.
“Have you decided?” Russell inquired, dropping the phone close to him.
Mia tightened her right fist, growling at the Alpha.
“I will go out with you.” She responded, her voice barely above a whisper.
“What did you say?” Russell asked with a smirk, but she didn’t think she was ready to repeat herself.
The Alpha stood up from the couch and grabbed his phone. “Say that again, Mia. I want to hear you clearly.” He insisted, inching closer to her.
Mia sighed heavily, and then she muttered, “I will go out with you tonight, Alpha Russell.” She avoided the Alpha’s eyes, looking down at her heels, but not really paying attention to them.
Russell sniggered. “That’s very surprising, Mia. I thought you were going to choose to keep the necklace.”
“I don’t want anything that will remind me of you, Alpha Russell. Plus I already have a necklace hanging on my neck.” Mia pulled out her necklace from inside her dress and placed it above the pearl necklace.
“Just to set the record straight, we are only going out because of this necklace. I don’t want you having crazy ideas in your mind.”
“What ideas are you talking about?” Russell covered the little space between them, leaving only a few inches.
He stood about ten inches taller than her, his hand reaching to grab her hair.
Mia swiftly moved away from his reach, glaring at him.
“Ideas that there could be more after the date, Alpha Russell. I am not one of your mistresses.”
Russell nodded, still holding onto his wry smile.
“I never said you were one of my mistresses, besides, I have no mistress. But you could be more than that if you want. After all, you got yourself rejected by the Alpha of your Pack.”
Mia glowered. “Are you trying to mock me?” She demanded an immediate response with her burning eyes, but the Alpha said nothing.
She took a deep breath, slowly releasing her clenched fists.
“I want to go home, Alpha Russell. I feel very tired.” She attempted to walk away, but the Alpha grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
“Not so fast, Mia. We still have somewhere else to go.”
Mia shook her head. “I am going nowhere else with you.” She reached for the hook of the pearl necklace, but just when she was about to unhook it, Russell grabbed her hands.
“What are you doing?” He asked, taking her hands down.
“I am trying to remove your necklace. I already accepted to go out with you.”
“No.” Russell refused, shaking his head slowly.
“You will only get to remove it after the date tonight. Just wear it one more time and let your beauty complement its worth.”
Mia looked him in the eyes, and then she nodded. “Fine. But I have my own condition.”
