Chapter 68 The Alpha Female
Chapter 68 The Alpha Female
Ciara
It was already midnight when I got back to my castle. Everywhere was still busy in preparation for my coronation. Nobody noticed as I walked past them which was even better probably because my clothes blended right in. I headed up to my mother’s room only to see her applying face cream.
“There you are!” She exclaimed innocently, as if she didn’t know where I had been. “You look so tired. Go to bed.”
I rolled my eyes and sat on her bed. “What happened to the elders?”
She laughed before raising a medium-sized bottle at me. “Two drops and they were out like light.”
“You killed them?!” I almost screamed and she shook her head.
“Just enough to keep them unconscious till the coronation begins. All they have to do is sit there and look pretty.” She explained. “We need them till the coronation is over. A little more patience.”
I slowly nodded my head and wondered what I would have done without my mother. Absolutely nothing. “Did you also use this on my father?” I asked.
She shrugged, “A drop in his food every day.” She stood up and stretched her body. It was my cue to leave so she could go to bed.
I also stood up as I felt the stress of the evening tell on my body. “What about the woman?”
“Found a way to slip a drop in her tea at Ragnor’s house so she should also be fast asleep.”
I shook my head at the thorough planning. “How did you get your hands on such a poison?” I looked at the bottle. Even though I never bothered with the magical world, I knew that deadly poisons were not just readily available in stores. Someone powerful must have made them.
“A friend of mine. An old friend.”She replied but the way she looked at the bottle almost said otherwise. She placed the bottle back into her shelf and yawned. I blew out her candles for her.
“Goodnight mom,” I said and I heard her mumble a response.
I got to my room and stripped my clothes before crawling into bed. I didn’t even bother to shower. I would just take a long bath before dressing for the coronation.
It was finally the day I anticipated the most in my life yet I felt indifferent. My dress was perfectly fit and the house was now empty. Everyone was at the venue waiting for me. My room door opened and I saw my mother waiting for me.
“Shall we?”
She was dressed in a gorgeous royal blue dress that had diamonds scattered on it. She looked surreal. I nodded my head and we both headed downstairs. Suddenly the front door burst open and a woman came running in.
“Please, please. Where is my son?!” She screeched.
I smirked and stepped back to look at her properly. Maybe to see what father saw in her. She was now on her knees rubbing her palms together.
“Please don’t hurt him.” She cried.
“You should have thought about it before making suspicious movements last night,” I told her. My mother didn’t even look bothered. She just took my hand and motioned for me to leave.
The woman looked speechless. I was sure she didn't expect us to know about it.
“As long as you act right, you’ll see your son after the coronation,” I told her. I stooped to her eye level before giving her a small smile. “If one thing goes wrong then I’ll do what I should’ve done ages ago,” I whispered the last part in her ears. She shuddered in fear and satisfaction filled my body. The excitement of the coronation came rushing in and I placed my hand back in my mother’s before leaving.
The Royal carriage was already waiting so we entered and headed out.
“A little birdie told me they saw a carriage from Moonlight pack arrive a few minutes ago.” My mother said and butterflies filled my belly.
“Told you,” I said with a smug smile on my face. I knew Elijah would come. I just knew it. All I needed was to get Lara out of the picture and everything would be just fine.
We got to the venue and it was filled to the brim. Many influential packs were here. Most of them probably didn't believe that I was going to become the leader of this pack. The elders were all seated with matching frowns on their faces and it made me happier. None of them wanted me here. History was going to be made.
My mother guided me to the altar and headed to her seat. I took a deep breath and knelt before the priest while he began the rites.
“Congratulations Alpha Ciara.” I smiled as I shook the hands of yet another Alpha whose name I didn’t bother to learn. I gave his wife a small smile too which she returned.
The place was slowly emptying but I was stuck greeting ‘important’ personalities. My mother had headed back home the second I was made the Alpha. According to her, the pack was now my problem.
“I’m sure you will do great, Alpha Ciara.” The wife of another Alpha said to me as she and her husband got closer. The look of admiration in her eyes made me happy. I did the right thing.
“Thank you.” This time around I was sincere.
“Ciara!” Someone called with zero respect and I smiled. I saw Ron walk towards me, and Axel was right by his side. They all came.
He spread his arms out and I hugged him. Axel gave me a pat on my shoulder and that was an equivalent amount of affection coming from him.
“Where is..”
“Right behind us,” Ron answered. He knew who I was looking for.
Elijah was towering over every other person here. He had a blank look on his face but I knew he was no longer angry. He wouldn’t stay mad for that long.
“Eli!” I rushed towards him but my feet froze seconds away from hugging him. Right beside was… Lara.
Lara?
“Congrats Ciara.” She said with a smile on her face.
“Thanks,” I said with a matching smile on my face but Heaven knew I wanted to slap it off her face. She was mocking me. That bitch.
