Chapter 69 The Unwanted Guest
Chapter 69 The Unwanted Guest
Lara
I stood by the window and watched as Ivan and Ian were doing their morning chores. As usual, the water in the watering can was more on their clothes than on the actual flowers it was meant for. I had a soft smile on my face. The events of the previous night flashed through my mind. Elijah’s body on mine. My face burned at the vivid memory. Even the early morning rays that touched my skin weren’t as hot as my face.
“You’re up early.”
Elijah’s deep voice cut through my thoughts, and I subconsciously gripped the bedsheet I had wrapped myself in tightly.
“Being here feels like a dream,” I said honestly and he chuckled.
I couldn’t tell him I'd woken up multiple times to make sure I wasn’t still at Silver Pack, preparing for my wedding to Jacob. I heard him shuffle on the bed before he stood beside me.
His arms wrapped around my body and I leaned into him. “It’s not a dream. I could pinch you if you want.” He suggested while kissing my neck softly.
The moment was broken by a loud banging on the door.
“Sorry to ruin it for you lovebirds but we have somewhere to be,” Ron said from the other side.
“We do?” I asked Elijah and he shrugged his shoulders.
“Ciara’s coronation,” Ron answered like he knew what I asked.
My stomach churned at the idea. The last time I spoke about Ciara, it caused a rift between Elijah and me. Just as my brain was about to start working overtime, a warm hand covers mine. I looked up at Elijah and he gave me a small smile.
“We don’t have to go.” He says softly, “Axel and Ron will do just fine there.”
Okay, I was aware that I'm supposed to be happy about the idea. I mean this was what I wanted, right? But taking myself out of the picture, all four of them have been friends for the longest and this was Ciara’s big day. Making Elijah not attend it just because I had a little issue with her and a suspicion wasn’t fair. So what if she was some traitor or evil mastermind? Elijah didn’t even believe me so what was the point?
“No,” I started and Elijah looked at me in confusion. “Let’s go.”
“I thought…”
“I need a change of environment after all I have been through. Maybe a coronation is just what I need.” I added with a reassuring smile even though my nerves were all over the place.
“Are you sure?” Elijah asked and I nodded.
“Guys!” Ron knocked again and Elijah flung a paper holder at the door.
“We’ll be down soon.” He said right after. I overheard Ron mumble about how rude Elijah was and I stifled a giggle.
I should have made a proper inquiry before embarking on this coronation journey. It’s been hours and we have still not gotten to Ciara’s kingdom. I slept, woke up, read a book, slept again and the carriage was still moving.
“How long till we get there?” I asked. Elijah looked unbothered about the distance and Axel and Ron were busy with a strange board game.
“Anytime soon. Regretting it already?” Elijah joked and I pouted.
So what if I am?
True enough, the carriage came to a stop a few minutes later. The loud music shook the carriage and I couldn’t help but imagine how big the party was. Ron and Axel were the first to come down from the carriage followed by Elijah who stretched out his hand to help me come down. I was grateful for that because I would have faceplanted on the ground with the length of my dress.
Speaking of dresses, I honestly did not want to overdress for the coronation but I knew that I had to look the part and after a whirlwind of confusion, I ended up overdressing. My gown was violet in colour and it clung to my body. It also had flowers scattered all over it from the knee area downwards. The dress was gorgeous simply put. However, I didn’t want to look like a clown or like I was trying to overshadow Ciara.
“Is this dress too much? Should I have just worn a normal dress?” I nervously asked Elijah as we made our way to the coronation ground. I looked around and saw other women dressed in the usual plain colours and dresses and my heart thudded in my chest.
Great, I look like a jester.
“You could be dressed in a sack and still be the center of attention.” Elijah simply said and suddenly all my insecure thoughts flew out of my head. They were followed by a million butterflies invading my stomach. I looked away from him so he didn't see my face turn the brightest shade of red.
Ron and Axel were already talking excitedly with Ciara who looked surreal by the way. Her entire look almost brought my insecurity back but I pushed it away.
“Eli!!” I heard her squeal but as soon as her eyes zoomed in on me, she came to a halt. She narrowed her eyes at me and I couldn’t agree more. The feelings were more than mutual.
“Congrats Ciara,” I told her with a smile on my face and she returned it with an even faker smile.
“Thanks.”
I could see the intense, burning anger in her eyes and I almost squirmed at the gravity of it. Something seemed off about it but before I could even think about it, Elijah gave her a pat on her shoulder.
“I can’t believe you finally did it.” He said and she nodded her head immediately.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” She said before throwing herself into his arms, conveniently pushing me to the side.
Oh boy
Elijah peeled her off him before keeping her at arm’s length.
“Where is the food?” Ron groaned and everyone laughed before Ciara walked towards him and ushered us to a heavily loaded food table.
“Enjoy.” She said with a grin on her face.
I might not like the girl very much but I bear no grudges with food.
