Lyra
“What?” She was confused. They were all confused.
“It’s not my fault. It’s mom's fault, even though she might have had her reasons, she did it, not me! It’s the same with them. Their parents did not them. If you want to take it out, take it out on them….” I paused, “…last I checked, you already did. Revenge done.”
Anna couldn’t close her mouth. Neither could any of the council members. Need I add that two of them really looked alike? Their subtle differences made me think of Kade and Kael. I hoped he woke up soon.
“Thats absurd. It doesn’t add up, I-“
“It does, but I don’t think she’s done talking. Or are you dead?” The councilwoman Athena asked, looking at me.
“Uhh, thank you, Athena. I am not. I also came here to tell her that if she still wanted them dead, then she should kill me, too. And as much as I don’t want to say this, but I am leaving”
“What? You obviously don’t mean that. Leaving for where? I just got you back!” Anna protested. Her voice broke with each word.
There was no way anybody could convince me that she was the bad guy. She looked just as fragile as I was when I was accused of murder at Darkpine.
“I know you don’t really know me well, but if you really care for me, I suggest you hear them out. I mean, Kade wouldn’t hurt anybody for no reason. You of all people should know that”
Nobody uttered any words. They all just looked at me. Watched me even. Pretty sure they didn’t realize I’d be able to stand my ground after being here for only a short time. I wouldn’t have had the guts if what I held dear wasn’t threatened.
I glanced over at ishada who doesn’t back away from my eye contact. I expected him to cower in fear after what he did to me, but he didn’t look bothered by the threats I had made during that time. Pretty sure he heard what I did to the guards. Made him piss his pants. I chuckled. It was a fun sight. But Ria went crazy.
“Y-you saw what Kael did. He almost killed Luth. He killed one of my guards,” Anna said frantically.
“That's because you made him do it. Kael is even more rational than Kade. I have never seen him lose it. You pushed him.” I said, and she groaned.
“They have to be punished. At least for the death of the guard and hurting a council member,” the other woman said. Oh yeah. That’s why one of those two men looked familiar. I watched Kael attack him. I thought he died from the way he had been bleeding.
“And what punishment would they be faced with?” I had to gather enough information if I was going to go back to Kael. He would want to know what the talk was about.
“No bonding,” Athena said, and I laughed out loud.
“That’s ridiculous. No bonding? We are useless as mates if there’s no bonding,” I argued.
Anna sat on the floor with her hand covering her face. I really hoped she wasn’t crying because I needed her to listen to whatever this woman was spewing out of her mouth.
“That’s a very light punishment if you ask me,” one of the men said, and I glared at him.
“What do you mean by fair? That’s a death sentence. An unbonded female is the same as a rogue,” I argued. “Anna! Say something”
She got up on her feet and sighed. She looked exhausted. It’s crazy how she looked exactly like me. It was like staring in the mirror, only that this mirror was live.
“You can’t bond with them lyria”
“Why not?”
Ishada moved from where he was standing and walked towards a cupboard that contained scrolls. “I think it’s time to show her”
“Show me what?” I asked.
Anna looked at the council, who looked at each other before nodding their heads. Anna looked over at me sadly. What was going on?
“What do you want to show me?”
“The reason you can’t bond with them,” the injured man, who I am guessing was Luth, said.
“This is all ridiculous. And I don’t want to see. It doesn’t make sense. You bonded with Kade, didn’t you? Why can’t I?”
Anna walked towards me and stopped right in my face. “It didn’t work, and now I know why.” What?
“What didn’t work? The bonding?” She nodded.
“This doesn’t make sense, but trust me. I need you to remember who you are. Maybe after that, you can bond,” remember who I was?
“What even is the meaning of that. I thought I already knew what there was to know about me”
“It’s Ria. She hasn’t fully woken up. She’s stronger than you think. And if you bond her, she won’t get there. She won’t save us,” I was even more confused than before. So this wasn’t about me but Ria.
I felt Ria rub my mind, and I sighed. At least for Ria, I had to hear them out, but not now.
“I don’t want to discuss this now. I need to be with my mates.” There was a sad look on Anna’s face, but I ignored it. She had hurt me, too.
“We will talk later. You need rest”
“Hmm. Just so you know, I don’t forgive you for locking me up so you could kill my mates. I don’t think I’d ever forgive that. Her mouth hung open as I turned to walk away without listening to another word.
Although I did hear her yell at Ishada to shut up. That was the last thing I heard before making my way to the clinic.
As I neared there. It seemed like the air had changed. Four guards stood aside, looking through the window. What were they staring at? I walked even faster. My mind thumped at the thought of Kade being awake.
“Move,” I said, pushing away at the one guard by the door. I opened the door with hope that something good had happened, but I stopped in my tracks at the sight of Kael smiling at one of the nurses.
I don’t know what came over me, but it took me a while to calm myself. I felt enraged and something else. Was it hurt?. The nurse had a smile on her face that I knew too well. It’s the same one Lucy had on her face whenever she saw Kade.
In slow motion, I moved and didn’t stop until I was standing between them. “What’s funny?” That wasn’t what I wanted to ask.
“Uhh, nothing. I just came to check his brother’s vitals,” I frowned.
All these was happening because she couldn’t tell that he had a mate. That they both did. And that’s because we haven’t bonded. I was pretty sure it was going to happen more. I mean, this place was crawling with women. ‘Don’t bond’ my ass. Once Kade is awake, I am bonding.
