FIFTY EIGHT
FIFTY EIGHT
Anna
“So now what?” Luth asked the moment Lyra left the room.
I paced around the corner of the council room unsure of what I would say. Thankfully ishada could see how disturbed I was about the whole conversation with Lyra. He stepped foward facing the council.
“I like to ask that we return some other time to have this conversation.”
I heard a few angry sighs but nobody said anything I believe it’s because they understood what I was going to have to deal with. I was caught between revenge and keeping my family. Lyra wasn’t just my family. The whole surviving pack was. How was I to tell them their revenge won’t be carried out again?
“I would like to get to the bottom of all these. When I gather enough information I’d call for another meeting” I finally said out loud.
“Whatever you do make it quick. I don’t want anybody panicking over the intruders we have resting in our space.” Desyrn said and Jean scoffed.
“Make it known to your sister that I will be taking back the arm her mate almost took from my brother” his voice was threatening.
Jean didn’t say anything and I knew it was because he knew it had been a fight and it was normal for one party or both parties to get injured.
“Tell her yourself” I said and walked away. Ishada followed silently behind me and I only knew he was behind me because of his scent.
“She hates me doesn’t she” I sighed taking a pause.
The moment she had burst in through those doors I knew she was upset. I had expected her anger but it was only supposed to be from locking her up. She wasn’t supposed to know that I planned to take revenge. I wasn’t even ready for the revenge but when we crossed paths with them I couldn’t help it. I just saw their parents' faces and lost it.
Ishada made his way towards me. “For the moment yes but it can’t be for long”
I laughed bitterly because that wasn’t true. “Trust me it might be for long. I could feel the fury flowing through her when she came in. We are twins remember I can feel what she feels when she’s close. She loathes me” Ishada sighed but said nothing.
“There’s a lot she’s not going to forgive me for. First locking her up I-“
“Come on. She will obviously forgive you for that” shade interjected.
“Well, knowing I did that so I could kill her mates is not quite forgiving. Not only am I stopping her from bonding…” I turned to look at him before I continued “……do you know the importance of bonding? Do you know what happens if you don’t bond?”
Grief beyond normal. Every day for the rest of one’s life. That was why I wanted Kade and Kael dead. With them gone the need for bonding goes as well. She will not be bothered by any pain or grief and then she will remember. She will remember who she is. Only she could redeem this forest and we needed her. I needed her.
“I think you should rest. You haven’t since you returned from the crimson territory. Let me send Mary to bring you something to eat”
“I don’t want to eat. I want to have everything figured out. I just….. I am going to be in the clinic if anybody needs me” I straightened myself and walked the other way.
I wasn’t sure if Ishada followed me. I couldn’t smell him and for a while I didn’t care. I didn’t until I got to the front of the clinic. Some of the fox guards were gathered but when they saw me they all scrambled away. I looked through the window to see Lyra being held by Kael.
He had his head on her shoulders while she sat on his legs and ran her fingers through his hair. For no reason my eyes got teary. She looked peaceful. They both did and I almost took it away from them. I shouldn’t be here I thought to myself and turned to leave when I heard my name.
I turned around slowly with a forced smile
Plastered on my face. Lyra was on her feet now and so was Kael. I couldn’t bear to look at his face so I didn’t.
“What is she doing here?” I heard him ask Lyra who said nothing.
Sighing I opened the door and stepped in. The room smelled like soap and cleaning agent. The fans were barely rotating. There were a few sick people in the clinic so I hoped in my heart that Kael didn’t make a scene.
“I just came to check on Lyra” I said which was the truth.
“She’s fine. Leave” Kael growled glaring at me.
I raised my hands in surrender. There was no need to create a scene atleast for the sake of the sick people who were watching us with fear in their eyes. Shit.
“She’s safe Kael” Lyra finally said holding his arm. He doesn’t seem to calm down but he looked at her and immediately withdrew his hostility. Barely.
“I just came to check on Lyra. I was leaving” I said without looking at Kael still.
“Okay” Lyra spoke and I looked up at her. She had a frown on her face as she watched me. Her eyes were fierce. Since yesterday she had changed. She became even bolder and unapologetic. That was only when it came to Kade and Kael. If she bonded she would become even more protective than she was now.
Smiling I finally looked at Kael. He had bandages on his arm. His clothes were half torn. His hair was disheveled but he still looked good. I had never once seen Kael as a threat even when I wanted to plot my revenge I left him out of it completely.
“I don’t hate you Kael.” His face was hard. He doesn’t respond just looks over my head. I could tell he was angry and I understood.
“I would leave you both to it. Lyra let’s talk when you have time”
“She’s not going anywhere with you. If you want to talk to her. Do it with me present “The hostility was back. And this time he was glaring at me. His wolf was also mad at me. Understandable still.
“You don’t need to worry. She won’t hurt me” Lyra said. And I nodded.
“By now you should know that I would never hurt her”
“Yeah we thought the same thing until you had our parents killed and almost killed us…” he turned to Lyra pointing a finger towards my direction “….this one is never trustworthy. Don't delude yourself Lyra”
I was done having this conversation so without a word I turned and walked away. I heard Lyra calling for me but I didn’t stop. There was nothing I could ever say to make Kael believe I wouldn’t hurt her and I didn’t care. As long as Lyra believed me then that was all that mattered.
