She's freaking out of her mind!
She's freaking out of her mind!
CHAPTER 9
I walked down the hall hurriedly, my mood sour, my heart heavier than it had ever been.
The triplets…
I mean, who else would ruin my day if not the dragons I was made to live with!
Today was Friday and of course my last day of serving detention. I let out a long breath, heading towards the girls bathroom to ease myself of stress.
I was at the door when I heard some girls muttering something I could barely hear as their voices were faint. I tried not to eavesdrop until I heard them mention a familiar name.
One that Claudia had threatened me with, and Arnold wouldn't tell me.
“Brianna.”
I pulled myself closer to the door to hear what they were saying better but there was no sound from inside the bathroom anymore.
Just then the door opened, the girls were out and their eyes prying into my soul.
I choked lightly, adjusting my dress and pretending as though I hadn't been eavesdropping on their conversation.
“What are you doing here, new girl.” One of the girls asked, staring at me as though she was searching for something.
“None of your business…” I snapped and tried to walk away but she held my hand, preventing me from moving forward.
“Haven't you learnt not to eavesdrop on people's conversation.” She whispered
“I wasn't.” I lied, pulling her hand off her grip.
“Lair… tell me what you heard.” Another girl spat, a devilsh smirk plastered all over her face.
“Look, I'm not here to make trouble, I just need to use the bathroom. So please kindly move away.” I said, as calm as possible but all my words seemed to fall on blocked ears.
They didn't care, they wanted something, something I'm not aware of.
“Well since you don't want to talk… we will make you pay for eavesdropping on our conversation," one of the girls said with a grin and they all started smiling and coming closer to me.
Hell! No, I wasn't in for another round of madness.
~
“Vanessa, can we talk?” I hurriedly walked behind her but she wouldn't stop. She wasn't even listening to me nor did she turn to hear me out.
“Please..” I begged and she suddenly stopped on her track.
“What? Do you want to get me into trouble again?” She asked, her brows curved into a frown.
“I'm sorry about yesterday.” I sighed.
“I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me.” She blurted almost immediately.
“If you won't talk to me then at least hear me out.” I pleaded. “Thank you for saving me from the girls earlier.” I added.
“It's no big deal, just stay away from danger and Claudia most of all.” The way she had stressed Claudia made me roll my eyes. Claudia was just a brat, a bully who is frustrated that she couldn't have the triplets which wasn't even my fault.
“Okay, but…” before I could say anything further, she walked away… I shut my eyes and drew a long breath. I didn't blame her for keeping her distance from me due to yesterday but I didn't understand was why someone as strong as Vanessa trembled under Claudia's command. That's crazy!
Flashbacks of how she stood up for me during the bathroom saga flooded my mind. She had defended me in front of the girls and challenged all of them, asking them to leave me alone.
There was definitely a reason why she didn't dare to go against Claudia and I was determined to find out everything they were hiding from me.
I was still in my thoughts when I heard the bell ring. It was time for the next class and I bit my lips on realization it was a general class.
Great, I was going to be having same class with the triplets and Claudia. I swallowed hard silently praying I wouldn't get paired with the triplets otherwise their psychopath admirer would do everything in her power to make me pay for something I had no control over!
The classes started almost immediately and I really wanted to sit next to Vanessa but the hall was almost filled up with students struggling to secure a seat.
I had no other option than to settle next to a charming dude. He tried to talk to me during classes but I kindly dismissed all his attempts for us to talk and finally it was time for the pairing.
Arnold was paired with Adrian.
Alexander paired with Simon ( Simon was one of their friends.) I was relieved that I didn't get to be paired with any of them but when it got to my turn, I was paired with Claudia!!!!
I Almost collapsed, Claudia? Why? How? Shit! I yelled inside my head.
After the pairing I tried to talk to the teacher in private about my pair and I would love to be changed with someone else but she blunted and refused all my pleas.
“Miss Alicia, Claudia is one of the best students in this class. You should be happy she's in your team.” The lady said and left the class.
I felt my heart break into a million piece. Today was Friday and also my last day in detention but with Claudia closer to me? One thing was certain, it's either I go back to detention or we both go back to detention.
“Hi team mate…” she hopped towards me, her face blossoming and radiating with so much joy.”
“Let me guess, you did this?” I asked, pretty unsure of what her response would be.
“Yep, it seems you aren't as dumb as I expected you to be.” She mocked.
“Why? Don't you hate me?” I asked again.
“Of course I do. That was why I suggested to the teacher to pair both of us under the pretence that you were still new and I can be of help to you. Isn't that cute?” She laughed.
I igno
red her but she took steps towards me… “it's gonna be a long day for you sweetheart.”
