Chapter 28
Kane's Point of View

"This is bullshit. I had good reason to place Ashley in jail," I told the werewolf councilman who had come to the pack.

I was so pissed off when I had to leave Rose at school earlier. One of the guards had mind linked me and told me I needed to get back to the packhouse because five werewolf council members had shown up out of nowhere. Apparently, Ashley's parents called the council and told them that I was abusing my power by locking their precious daughter up.

"So you are saying that you feel it is okay to lock her up because she is your ex girlfriend? If that is what you are saying, you are wrong. You can't just lock someone up because you found your mate," the councilman said

"That isn't what happened. I locked her up because she pushed my mate down the steps. She could have died because of her. That isn't the only thing she did, either. She also threw a dodgeball at her head, causing her to pass out and have a concussion. I warned her, but she didn't listen to me and went after her again. I have every right to make sure my mate is safe. She is the future luna of this pack and deserves to be treated with respect," I said

"So you feel that because you are going to be alpha, you have every right to throw anyone out of the pack that you had a sexual relationship with?"

"No, that is not what I am saying. You heard the reason, but you want to think the worst," I replied

"How about we hear what Ashley Monroe has to say?" the councilman said, and everyone looked at Ashley, who had been faking crying the entire time. We were sitting at a long table. I was sitting with some of the warriors and Chace on my side while Ashley and her parents were sitting across from us. There were two coucilmen sitting at the table as well. Arnold, who had been doing all the talking, and Larry, who had been sitting there quietly just observing everything that was going on. They were both older men who looked to be in their sixties.

"Ashley, Dear, please tell us what happened," Arnold asked. It was obvious he didn't believe a work I had told him. He had already made up his mind that Ashley was telling the truth, and it didn't matter what I had to say.

"Well, Kane and I have been dating for a while now. I thought we were going to end up together. I thought he was going to choose me as his chosen mate. He told me he never wanted to find his fated mate because they would be a weakness that he didn't want. That was why I was shocked when he told me that his step sister was his mate," Ashley said with tears in her eyes.

"You said that you two were in an intimate position when he discovered she was his mate, right?" Arnold asked

"Yes, we were having sex when she and his sister walked in on us. His sister threw water on us," Ashley said

"So, his sister threw water on you and she watched happily, right? It seems she had a problem with you before his mate ever knew who you were," Arnold said, and I couldn't take it anymore.

"This is ridiculous. What does that have to do with anything?" I asked

"It shows that your mate already didn't like her by her actions."

"She isn't the one who threw the water at her. This has nothing to do with her," I said

"Please calm down and let Ashley finish speaking," Larry said. I sighed.

"After hearing what both of you have to say, I believe that Ashley Monroe shouldn't be severely punished for what happened," Arnold said after Ashley was finished with her lies.

"What? This is bullshit. She literally threw my mate down the stairs," I said

"You already said you don't have the proof of that," Larry said

"No, I don't because someone got rid of the video footage," I said as I looked at Ashley

"You can't possibly be saying I did that. I was locked in a cell when that happened. How could I get rid of the footage?" Ashley said. I knew she was locked up, but I also knew she most likely had someone else do it for her. I just needed to figure out who that someone was.

"This is crazy. I have every right to punish her for mistreating my mate," I said

"You don't have the right to abuse your power by mistreating your ex because your mate is upset that you were with her. That is against werewolf law, and if it happens again, we will send this matter to the king," Arnold said

"I am not abusing anyone. You just don't believe anything I have to say. I wonder why that is," I replied. I was getting pissed off and wanted to strangle Arnold.

"Okay, let's calm down. Arnold is right. Since there is no proof, there is nothing we can do now," Larry said. I didn't miss the smile that was on Ashley's face. She was happy she had gotten away with harming my mate. Larry's eyes went to hers, and I knew he saw the smile before she tried to hide it when she realized he was looking at her.

"Just because you are free this time doesn't mean you can do whatever you want because of this. Kane is your future Alpha, and that means his mate will be your Luna one day. If you do anything to her, I am sure this time, he will make sure he has the proof. So, if I were you, I would leave him and his mate alone," Larry said. I had a feeling she believed me and not her, but like he said, there was no proof, so there was nothing they could do.

After they left, I went to my room. I needed to see Rose after this. It was late, and I missed her. I was shocked to see she wasn't there. I was about to go to Kelly's room to see if she was with her, but then I ran into some of the pack members we went to school with.

"Hey, are you looking for your sister?"

"Yeah," I said

"She went to the party at the castle." I had forgotten about that party.

"What about Rose?" I asked

"She went too."

I took out my phone and called Rose.

"Helllooo, Kaanne. Whhere have you been all day. You haven't thought about me but I have thought about you," Rose said. It was obvious she had been drinking

"Rosalina, stop. Come sit with me," I heard a guy say

"Who is that?" I asked. Why the fuck did he want her to sit with him?

"That's Jaasson. He ownns the house, well casttle," Rose said

"Where is Kelly?" I asked

"She is dancing with Tristennn," Rose said

"I am on my way. Don't go anywhere," I said

"Ookay I will just be sitting her with Jason. He is a good person," Rose said, and she ended the call. I hurried up and got in my car. There was no way I was letting Jason touch my mate. I didn't care if he was the soon to be king.
