chapter 164

chapter 164
Carter's POV

“Caspian?” I called slowly, panic slowly creeping in.

“Carter… I need… your help please,” he stuttered, his teeth chattering.

Something was wrong, he was in trouble.

I glanced at Zimora, and she gave me a look that read, I told you so.

“Caspian? Can you hear me? Please speak up? What's wrong?”

“Promise you'll help me please,”

“How serious is this?”

“It's a life or death matter Carter, and I really don't want to  die now please, I need to live,”

“Take a deep breath,”

I could hear him inhale deeply.

“Good,” I nodded as if he could see me.

“So now, can  you tell me what exactly is going on?”

“I had a bad deal Carter, I had a bad deal,”

“What the fuck do you mean you had a bad deal? What the heck did you get yourself involved in?” I snapped, and Zimora patted my shoulder gently.

“Take it easy,” she mouthed, and I inhaled deeply.

“speak Carter, I'm listening,” I added softly.

“So I got a job to transport materials from one place to another, and on the way, we got hijacked, everything was taken from me, Carter,”

“I'm being held responsible, it's either I produce those goods, or my head would go on a stake for it,”

“Whee are you now?”

“In hiding,”

“Come over to the Kingdom, I can't, this is the only safe space at the moment, of I get out of here, I can easily be killed before I get there,”

“So how can I help?”

“I don't know Carter, anyway you can,”

“How much is it worth?”

“Ten million dollars…”

“You got to be kidding me, I slapped my hand on my forehead. How am I supposed to get Ten fucking million dollars from, I don't mind cash Caspian,”

“Carter please…” he pleaded.

I couldn't leave him out in the open to dry, I needed to help me, despite the wickedness in his blood, he's still my brother after all, and there's absolutely nothing I can do about the bond we share, or the blood that runs through both our veins.

“I'll call you back,” I hung up, and walked out of the nursery almost immediately, but not without placing a light kiss on Zimora’s forehead.

I knocked on the door to Nyx’s office lightly.

“Come on in,” he spoke from inside, and I pushed the door open a bit and stepped inside.

He glanced at me just once, and fixed his gaze back on what he was doing.

“I don't remember inviting you here,”

“That's cause you didn't,”

“My point Exactly, so unless you're just here to watch me work, then you can leave,”

“I want to ask for a favor,” I chipped in almost immediately and his hand that held the pen that was writing, stopped moving on his accord.

“You've lost that privilege,”

“Then don't attend to me as a  friend, but as a king, it's a matter of urgency, and it needs your attention.

He finally closed the book in front of him, and straightened his back.

“Speak,”

“Before I say anything, I want to say I'm sorry Nyx, I was wrong for not letting you know about my affair on time, and I was wrong for thinking so bad of you even after we had been together for years,”

“You had already established the fact that this isn't what you came here for, so,” he tilted his head sideways, “what is it?”

I hated being treated like a stranger, it was really awkward, under normal circumstances, I shouldn't be asking him for a favor right about now, but I knew Caspian was definitely in big trouble.

I didn't even know if I could trust the version of the truth he had given to me, and I couldn't also be so sure that this wasn't a trick, but just to be on the safe side, I was gladly going to help.

“It's Caspian,”

“What about him?”

“He is in trouble, and he needs your help, it's a life or death situation please,”

“What's the story?”

“He said a package he was supposed to deliver somewhere was hijacked,”

“How much is it?”

I gulped hard, and he twitched his brows.

“Ten million,”

He scoffed, and rolled his eyes, “Of course, I trust Caspian to find himself in trouble he can't get himself out of,”

“Where is he now?”

“In hiding,”

“Helping you isn't going to be an issue at all, there's just one single condition attached to it though,” he placed a finger beneath his chin.

“Okay?”

“Tell Caspian, I need him to beg for himself ,”

Shit!!! I cursed under my breath, as my face sank.

Telling him to come out of his hideout, would be like exposing him to more troubles, which could lead to his death.

“Nyx, please,” I pleaded, but at this point, his gaze wasn't even resting on me any longer.

He was back to working.

“It's really simple Carter, let me make the work easier for you, there's a reason why we have these devices,” he waved a  phone my way, and my eyes lit up instantly, he was right.

How could I have forgotten? It is very easy for him to call Nyx and explain his plight to him.

He picked on the third ring, I had dialed his number, the minute I walked out of Nyx’s office.

“Caspian, can you hear me?”

“Yes,” he replied weakly.

“I've found a way to help you,”

“Wait Really? How?” His tone was rising with excitement.

“Nyx,”

I could imagine the colour on his face draining, as I mentioned the name he dreaded the most.

“Nyx?” He echoed, he sounded unsure of what he had just heard.

“Yes, Nyx,”

“Carter, come on, you know he hates me, he wouldn't even be willing to help me, or listen to anything that has to do with me,”

“It's not my fault you made the wrong enemies Caspian, this case is bigger than me, and there's only one person with the power to help you, who has decided to help you on one condition,”

“Which is?” The eagerness in his voice was very evident.

“Call him, and plead your case,”
