"What are you doing here?" Rose gasped in surprise when she saw that the person looking for her was Robert. She was embarrassed to see the man staring at her intently and traced her body from head to toe and looked back at her intently. Really, Rose never expected to meet this arrogant man again, moreover, he accidentally met her at the supermarket warehouse employee's door. The heat and stale air between the push of the delivery men, did not seem to make Robert hot or nervous. Rose saw the man indifferent to the bustle around him or the admiration stares from the few people who knew who Robert was. The celebrity doctor was still standing there unconcerned and his attention was solely on Rose. "You'd better go, I'm busy." Rose put her work gloves back on and turned around. She didn't want the man's presence to cost her a fourth time. "Don't you want to ask how Kenzie is doing?" Robert's baritone voice stopped Rose in her tracks. The woman froze for a moment. She bit her lip and suppressed the longing in her heart. She squeezed her hands tightly, trying not to be tempted. Rose tried to control the pounding in her heart and trembling body. She took a deep breath. "He's fine, isn't he?" Rose smiled faintly, without turning to face Robert. "I'm sure you're taking good care of him." Rose stepped back, leaving Robert. She couldn't stand being around him for long. The woman is afraid that she will become weak and starts a fight for her soul mate. "Don't you want to meet him?" Again, Robert's words stopped Rose's steps. Meet? Of course Rose really wanted to see Kenzie. The woman had been looking for Kenzie at his old school, but she just realized that Robert had transferred the boy's school. Several times each night, Rose secretly watched the Roberts' house, hoping she could see the boy from a distance. "Don't you miss him, Rose?" Rose felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. The girl turned and saw Robert's big fingers resting on her shoulders. "Miss, of course I miss him very much," Rose signed weakly. "But, I think--" "Don't deny it Rose, you can meet Kenzie. I won't stop you from seeing him." Rose stared at Robert in disbelief. Her misty eyes blinked until crystal beads trickled down her white and smooth skin. The granules slid quickly without stumbling across Rose's slick cheeks. "I know, it's just…." Rose let out a breath that felt tight in her chest. "I don't believe in myself," she said weakly. Rose was afraid she would be selfish again and take Kenzie away, whereas she was sure the boy was now comfortable and safe with Robert. All his needs and a bright future must be at hand. "Go Robert, let Kenzie forget about me. I just want him to be happy." Rose trotted away from Robert. "Kenzie is sick, Rose! She calls your name all the time!" Robert's scream not only made Rose stop running, but everyone around her turned around. "What did you say?" Rose turned and walked over to Robert. "How can you make him sick? Aren't you a doctor? Don't you take good care of him, give him nutritious food, vitamins or just bedtime stories?" Rose stormed Robert with a question. "What are you doing as a father," she whispered in annoyance. "So are you going to see him now or are you going to let Kenzie get sick?" Robert ignored Rose's question. "Okay, I assume you don't care." Robert turned around when he didn't get an answer from Rose for five seconds. "Eh, wait. I--" Rose ran after Robert. "I said wait!" Rose tugged on Robert's coat to stop the man in his tracks. At first glance he saw a faint smile, but it evaporated as fast as a gust of wind. Rose ignored that and she immediately stopped one of her comrades. "Sir, I'm sorry, I have to go home because my son is sick." "You have kids, Rose?" The man frowned. "Is this man your husband?" Rose was annoyed that the man had even asked her to gossip. "I'm sorry, I'll make up for the wasted time another day. Excuse me, sir." The woman hurriedly pulled the coat on Robert's sleeve to quickly leave the place for the parking lot. Robert followed Rose's fast pace. He saw Rose's hand still tugging at his coat. The man then consciously twisted his hand to hold Rose. The small movement took Rose by surprise. The girl was about to pull her hand away, but Robert's grip was too tight. In order not to be the center of attention, Rose chose to remain silent. The most important thing right now wasn't holding hands, but meeting Kenzie soon. "I'll give you an offer, Rose," said Robert when they were in the car. The man fastened his seat belt and started the car. "Offer, you mean?" Rose turned to the man. For a moment there was only silence in the vehicle that slowly drove toward the Robert family's main house. Rose occasionally turned to Robert who did not continue his speech. There was a sense of wonder in the girl's heart to realize that the man didn't seem in a hurry to get home. "Stop working." "You mean?" Rose was surprised by Robert's words which were only fragmentary. "I need to work to provide for my family and pay off the debt you've caused," Rose hissed furiously. "Work for me and I will give you a good salary." "Work for you?" Rose didn't understand what the only man meant to be her enemy. "I'm not Ruby who went to school as a nurse, even though I couldn't graduate because of someone's debauchery," said Rose with a sarcastic laugh. "Stop talking about Ruby," Robert hissed furiously. "Don't talk about the past, because now it's just you and me!" Robert confirmed his words. Rose chose to remain silent because after all whatever she said would not change the past. She had repeatedly vented her frustration in her heart on Robert, but it still didn't change things. The regret she expected from him, at least, had been shown by a commitment to nurturing and acknowledging Kenzie. "I want you to babysit Kenzie. Always stay by the kid's side, take care of him as usual." Robert's car had arrived in his yard. "Look at him, miss you all the time." Robert pointed at Kenzie who was sitting in the garden in front of the house. "Kenzie," Rose whispered in awe. The woman immediately got out of the car and stared at Kenzie who was running towards her. The boy shouted her name with joy. The little warm hug she missed so much made Rose's heart feel warm. "Aunt Rose, don't leave Kenzie again."
