Chapter 20 Chapter 7.2
I'm happy looking at the baby clothes. They're so cute because they're so small. We bought unisex colors because we don't know the baby's gender yet. They also bought a crib, mosquito net, newborn clothes, mittens, and baby socks. I understand why they're excited to go shopping. It's actually fun to buy things for a child.
"Try sitting here." Mommy Shiermy pulled me and then sat me down on the single sofa. "Are you comfortable? You'll sit there when you're going to breastfeed." I tried leaning back and imagined holding a baby. I smiled at her.
“Comfortable, Mom,” I answered.
“We'll take this too,” she said to the staff. I looked at the things she and grandma Mariam bought. Why did they buy so much right away?
“Isn't it like we bought too much? We can always just come back again next time if there's anything missing,” I said to them. Mommy Shiermy smiled at me.
“Just let your grandma and I be, Heaven. We've been waiting a long time for Desmond to have a child. We thought it would take longer because Macie has rejected Desmond several times. I think Macie has no plans to have children because she takes care of her body. Don't get me wrong, our family likes Macie, but since we found out that she cheated on Desmond while she was in France, we've become a little distant from her. We still accepted her for Desmond because Desmond loves Macie so much. I feel sorry for my son, Heaven. He really wants to marry Macie, but Macie always rejects him. If only his love for Macie could be transferred to you so he wouldn't get hurt anymore. There's nothing I can do as a mother for him,” Mommy Shiermy said with pity.
I just smiled sparingly. I have no intention of loving Desmond because I know where our relationship will lead. When Macie is ready to marry him, he will divorce me so he can marry the woman he loves so much.
When we finished shopping, we went home to their house. Because of the number of things they bought, we spent almost half a day at the mall. I lay down on the sofa first because I was so tired from all the walking.
I didn't realize the time. When I woke up, I was still on the sofa. The surroundings were dark. I looked at the blanket that was on top of me. I must have slept for a long time.
“It's good that you're awake, sleep in the room. I wanted to wake you up earlier, but you seemed so tired, so I let you sleep there first.” I looked at Mommy Shiermy, who was holding tea.
“What time is it, mom?” I asked hoarsely. I felt like my throat was very dry.
“It's nine o'clock at night. I already had the room prepared where you'll sleep tonight. Desmond called earlier, asking if you were here. I told him you'll just go home tomorrow.” I sighed. It's good that that man knows how to look when I'm gone.
I stood up and then got my things.
“I need to go home, Mom, I'm sorry. I wanted to sleep here, but I'm also thinking about Desmond. He often drinks, and something might happen to him if he's alone at home.” I said goodbye. I noticed Mommy Shiermy smiling. Does she think I like her son? I don't like Desmond. I just want to make sure that her son won't cause any trouble.
“I'll have the driver take you home.” She answered and then went out to call the driver. I felt the pain in my feet and hips because of how long we walked earlier. I'm not even in the middle of my pregnancy yet, but they already bought so much.
“The driver is there, be careful on your way home, okay?” I just nodded to Mommy Shiermy. She took me to the gate.
“Good night, Mom. I'm sorry if I bothered you. I really need to go home.” She shook her head and then smiled. She tapped my shoulder and held one of my hands.
“I should be the one thanking you because I can clearly see how worried you are for my son. Thank you for taking care of Desmond, Heaven. It's good that you two are getting along. Do you know that I was also surprised earlier because he called me to ask about you? I thought he really didn't care about you. You, on the other hand, even though it's night, you want to go home to know how he is.” I laughed slightly because Mommy Shiermy seemed to be thinking differently.
“You're thinking wrong, Mom, I just want to make sure he doesn't make a mess in the house. He often drinks and almost finishes all the alcohol in the house. I don't want to find him lifeless tomorrow, especially since we're in the same house.” I explained, but she just smiled at me. Does she think Desmond and I are starting to like each other? No! I don't like him. I know he has a girlfriend, and it's wrong to love Desmond.
After I got in the car, I just shook my head. Are they hoping that Desmond and I will like each other?
I leaned my head back because I was still sleepy. I forced myself to stay awake so the driver wouldn't have to wake me up when we arrived. After almost an hour of travel, we finally arrived.
All the lights were off when I got home. I went straight to the kitchen to look for Desmond. I breathed a sigh of relief when I didn't see any scattered bottles of alcohol on the floor. Is he already asleep?
I took my tumbler from the fridge and then went up the stairs. I looked at Desmond's room; I wanted to see if he was already asleep, but what if he was still awake?
I didn't realize I was getting closer to Desmond's room. I slowly opened the door, but I dropped what I was holding when I saw him.
“Oh my God!” shouted a woman who was under Desmond. I swallowed, I was stunned by what I saw. Why did I even open his door?
“Heaven!” Desmond shouted angrily at me. I quickly closed his door. I held my chest in shock. He brought a woman to our house? I didn't see who he was with. If he really loves his girlfriend, who is the woman he's with in bed?
I just closed my eyes when I remembered what they were doing. Damn it! They are having sex!
