Chapter 118 Chapter 40.1
Chapter 118 Chapter 40.1
Desmond didn't leave the house anymore. Our son was lying between us because he wanted Daryl beside him. My heart was overflowing with happiness. It was already midnight when the two of us finally fell asleep because we were just staring at each other without saying a word, we didn't want to wake Daryl because he was sleeping so peacefully.
The next morning, I woke up when my son suddenly climbed on top of me.
“Mommy,” he whispered softly. Still sleepy, I looked at him.
“What?” I asked. He was looking at the space beside us, so I turned my head too. He was staring at Desmond with confusion.
“Who is he? Is he a thief, Mommy? Why is he in our room?” he asked quietly. I couldn't help but laugh.
“He's not a thief, sweetheart, he's your dad,” I answered. He immediately fell silent, shocked by what I had said. He just kept looking at Desmond. Desmond was still sleeping soundly, so he couldn't hear us.
“He looks familiar, Mommy. I think I've seen him somewhere before, I just can't remember where,” Daryl said curiously as he looked at me.
“Are you happy to see him? We didn't wake you up last night because you were sleeping so soundly. Weren't you excited to meet him? Are you happy to see him now?” I asked with a smile. He didn't answer. Instead, he looked at Desmond again. When Desmond suddenly moved, Daryl screamed in surprise.
“Mommy!” he shouted as he hugged me tightly and buried his face against my chest. I chuckled softly. Desmond woke up because of his loud scream.
“Hey baby, good morning,” he greeted hoarsely. I smiled back at him.
“Daryl, baby, look at me,” I told my son. When Desmond realized our son was already awake, he sat up and leaned against the headboard.
“Good morning, my sweetie pie,” Desmond greeted our son. Daryl finally looked at him, but he was still lying on top of me.
“Aren't you happy to see your daddy, sweetheart?” I asked because he was just staring at Desmond. It looked like he was still deciding whether he should go near him.
“I’m happy, Mommy, but I don't know him yet,” he answered. I sat up, but my son still refused to let go of me. Whenever he didn't know someone, he almost never wanted to leave my side.
I looked at Desmond, I knew he desperately wanted to hug our son, but we couldn't force Daryl because this was only the first time they had met.
“Let's just give him some time to get to know you. He was like this with my family too when he first met them. He even cried and refused to go near them, but after a week, he ended up liking all of them,” I told Desmond.
“So that means I have to wait another week before I can carry him?” Desmond asked. He couldn't wait to hold and take care of our son.
“Come to Daddy, sweetheart. I’m your father,” he said to Daryl. Daryl only stared at him blankly. I picked Daryl up and was about to hand him to Desmond when our son suddenly screamed.
“No, Mommy. No!” he cried as he clung tightly to the collar of my shirt. I couldn't help but laugh. He hugged me again like a little koala, refusing to let go of me, as if he was afraid of his daddy.
“He's your dad, sweetheart. Don't you like him? Don't you want to get to know him?” I asked.
“I’m happy to see him, Mommy, but I don't like him yet. I don't know him yet, Mommy,” he answered before burying his face against my chest again.
“Let's just leave him be. I'd rather wait for a week than have him never accept me, right?” Desmond said, so I looked at him.
“Let's not overwhelm him yet. He'll like you once he gets to know you, trust me,” I said. Desmond simply nodded. When I got down from the bed, I was still carrying our son. He almost refused to let go of me.
The three of us went downstairs together and headed to the kitchen.
“Sweetheart, come down for a while. You're getting heavy,” I told my son, but he quickly shook his head. “He won't take you away, he won't carry you either, right Daddy?”
“Of course. I won't force you if you're still not comfortable with me,” Desmond answered, but Daryl still shook his head immediately. I could only sigh. I had no choice but to keep carrying him until we reached the kitchen.
The three of us ate together. I kept glancing at the two of them because they were just staring at each other. It was obvious that Daryl was curious about Desmond. His eyes were still so innocent.
“Mommy, why wasn't he with us before? Why did he only show up now?” Daryl asked innocently.
“It’s a long story, sweetheart. You'll understand when you're older, but for now, just get to know him,” I answered. He sighed like an old man, making Desmond and me smile at each other.
“By the way, about our date today, let's just have the three of us eat at a restaurant instead. I wasn't able to plan our date because I was too overwhelmed after finding out everything. I'll make it up to you, I promise,” Desmond said.
“It's okay. It's actually better if Daryl comes with us so he can get to know you. I was planning to bring him with us on our date today anyway,” I answered.
When I finished eating, my son immediately followed me.
“Are you done eating too? I'm not going anywhere, sweetheart. Why do you keep following me everywhere? He won't take you away, and he's definitely not a thief,” I said.
“I don't want to be away from you, Mommy,” he answered, making me sigh once again. I simply let him follow me wherever I went.
After Jessica finished eating, I let her watch over Daryl for a while.
“Good morning, sir,” I looked toward the door when I heard Jake's voice. He came inside and handed a bag to Desmond.
“Did you bring everything I told you to?”
“Yes, sir, everything's complete,” Jake answered. Did Jake really work even on Saturdays?
“Good morning,” he greeted me. I smiled back at him. After handing the bag to Desmond, Jake immediately left.
“You two stay here for a while. I'm going to take a shower first,” I said as I headed upstairs, but I looked back at Desmond when he followed me.
“Let's take a shower together,” he whispered softly. He was smiling as if he was genuinely excited for us to shower together.
“I don't have any clothes here that you can borrow,” I whispered back. He simply raised the bag he was holding.
“I asked Jake to bring me a change of clothes, so don't worry,” he said. I couldn't help but laugh. I had no choice but to let him join me in the shower, and instead of the two of us taking a shower, I ended up being the first thing he indulged in.
