Chapter 117 Chapter 39.3

Chapter 117 Chapter 39.3
Before I went downstairs to the living room, I looked first to see who was inside my house. The moment my eyes met Desmond's, I smiled. I thought I wouldn't get to see him for an entire day. I hurried down the stairs, and as soon as I reached the bottom, I quickly wrapped my arms around him. I hugged him tightly, burying my face against his chest.
I could feel the warm breath leaving his nose. I snuggled even closer into him when I felt him gently stroking my back.
“I thought you weren't going to show yourself to me anymore. I thought you didn't want to see me anymore. I thought you weren't going to talk to me again. Where did you go? Why weren't you answering my calls? Where were you hiding? I went to your penthouse, but you weren't there because no one answered and no one opened the door. If you were angry with me, you should've just come to me and talked to me. You have no idea what kinds of thoughts have been running through my mind because you didn't come to work, and you didn't even call me,” I said one sentence after another. I couldn't stop myself from crying. He didn't answer, so I looked up at him. I had to tilt my head because he was several inches taller than me.
“I’m sorry, I was going to tell you about Daryl. That's why I asked you out on a date tomorrow, because I wanted to tell you about our son. I couldn't tell you right away because I didn't know how to begin. I didn't know what I was supposed to say to you. Aren't you happy to know that our son is alive?” I said with a pout. He simply looked at me as his hand gently brushed through my hair before caressing my cheek.
“I’m happy, of course. I got angry because all of you kept it from me. Every single one of you knew Daryl was alive, but I was the only one who knew nothing. So that's why Chairman didn't want us to separate, because there was a child involved. I thought my feelings finally mattered to him, but that wasn't the reason after all. It was because of Daryl, he didn't want our son to grow up without a complete family. Am I really that terrible of a person for all of you to hide this from me? Did I hurt you so badly that I deserved all of this? I'm not angry at you. I understand how you felt, but what about me? Not a single one of you understood me. Not one of you ever thought that I was hurting and grieving too. I'm angry because you faced everything about our son all by yourself. You carried all of our son's battles alone. If I had only known sooner, I would've been there beside you through every single fight our son went through. Just thinking about how you had to face everything alone makes me angry at myself because I wasn't there beside you while our son was fighting for his life.” My tears continued falling, refusing to stop.
I could only pout like a child. I hugged him again. I couldn't even speak anymore because I was sobbing.
He hugged me back, and I felt him kiss the top of my head. I really thought he was angry with me.
“I’m really sorry,” I whispered between sobs.
“I’m sorry for making you worry. I just wanted to be alone for a while, but that doesn't mean I was angry or that I wanted to leave you. Now that I know our son is alive, I have no reason to divorce you. I love you so much. I love both you and Daryl more than anything. I want to make up for all the time I wasn't by your side.” I could only keep nodding at him.
He held both of my shoulders and gently pulled me back just enough for our eyes to meet. He smiled at me before wiping away the tears on my cheeks.
“You cry like a little kid. You're not hiding anything else from me anymore, are you? Tell me now so I only have to go through all the pain once.” I shook my head because that was the only secret I had been keeping from him.
“Don't ever do this again, okay? Don't keep secrets from me anymore. Tell me everything about you so I can know you even better,” he said gently. I could only keep nodding in response.
“Is our son already asleep? How is he going to accept me when he doesn't even know who I am?” The nervousness in his voice was obvious.
“I already told him a few days ago that I was finally going to introduce you to him. He's been excited to meet you,” I answered after finally calming down. Desmond let out a long, deep breath.
“Where is he? Can I see him?”
“Of course. He's already in his room. He sleeps early.” We walked upstairs hand in hand until we reached the bedroom. The weight in my chest finally disappeared. I could breathe properly again because he was here, and he wasn't angry with me. I still felt guilty, but I couldn't change what had already happened. What mattered now was that we were okay again, and he knew our son was alive.
He let go of my hand as he walked over to our son. He sat down on the edge of the bed and gently stroked Daryl's hair.
“He's grown so much. I didn't even get to watch him grow up from the day he was born,” he whispered.
“I have a lot of pictures of him, but some of them were taken while he was still in the hospital. He had heart surgery, so he stayed there for quite a long time. His recovery was pretty difficult,” I told him. I saw tears slowly fall from Desmond's eyes, and I couldn't stop my own eyes from filling with tears too.
“He's so strong. He was still so little when he had to fight for his life and go through several surgeries. I feel ashamed to face him because I wasn't even there for him, even though he's too young to remember everything he went through.”
He took a deep breath before gently kissing Daryl on the forehead and cheek.
“I’m really sorry,” was all I could say to him.
“None of this is your fault. You don't have to apologize because I'm the one who should be asking both of you for forgiveness. Everything that happened to our family is my fault. If I hadn't trusted Zachary with you back then, if I had gone with you to your prenatal check-up instead, none of this would've happened. I would've never let you and Macie talk to each other. All of this could've been avoided if I hadn't chosen business over my family.”
“Don't blame yourself anymore. What matters now is that you're here, our son is alive, and our family is finally complete,” I said. He looked at me and smiled. His eyes were still filled with tears, and it hurt me to see him like this.
“Come here,” he whispered softly. I walked over to him and sat beside him. He gently held my head and kissed my forehead.
“I love both you and Daryl so much. I hope someday you'll be able to forgive me for everything I did to you.”
