Chapter 116 Chapter 39.2

Chapter 116 Chapter 39.2
I went back to my office. I waited for him, hoping he would eventually come in, but I didn't even catch a glimpse of him. I couldn't get any work done either because he was the only thing on my mind. I kept telling myself that maybe he just needed some time to cool off before facing me. I only wished he had told me that he needed time to think so I wouldn't be this worried about him.
I ended up resting my head on my desk. Should I just wait for him to come to me on his own? But when was he planning to show up? How many days did he need to sort out his thoughts? Was he no longer going to show up for our date? He said he would take care of everything, but now he was nowhere to be found.
He never even told me where he was planning to take me because he said he would just pick me up from home.
“I'm so bored,” I muttered to myself, even though there were piles of documents waiting for me. I wasn't in the mood to work because I knew if I forced myself, I wouldn't be able to do anything properly.
“I miss you already. I want to see you so badly. Where are you?” I could only sigh. It felt like time was moving so slowly. I just hoped he would still keep his promise. I hoped he would still come and pick me up tomorrow. I hoped everything he had planned for us would still happen.
We hadn't even been back together for a week, and now this happened. He wouldn't suddenly think about divorcing me again, would he? He wouldn't do that now that he knew our son was alive, right? He wouldn't want our son to grow up without a complete family.
“Heaven, dear.”
“Hmm?” I answered half-heartedly without bothering to look up at whoever had entered my office. My head remained resting on my desk. I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone right now. If it were Desmond, I would talk to him immediately.
“Are you okay? I heard what happened last night. Is it true that Desmond already knows about Daryl? Have the two of you talked yet?” I didn't even feel like sitting up properly to face Grandma Mariam.
“I don't know where Desmond is right now, Grandma. I went to his office earlier, but he wasn't there. I've been calling him, but his phone is still unreachable. I don't even know where I should look for him. Shouldn't he be happy that our son is alive, Grandma? Then why is he angry now?” I couldn't help complaining to her. I pouted like a child. It was so frustrating because he could've just talked to me. Would disappearing and refusing to talk to me solve anything? Would we be able to fix this if he kept avoiding me? It was really frustrating.
“We can't really blame him, sweetheart. He was hurt because we hid Daryl from him. Of course he's happy to know your son is alive. Anyone would be happy to find out that Daryl survived. I'm sure he was just overwhelmed by everything he learned.”
“But Grandma, we can't fix this, and I can't explain everything to him if he keeps hiding from me.”
“I know, sweetheart. Let's just give him some space and time to think. Maybe he's just trying to calm himself down so he won't end up hurting you or raising his voice when the two of you finally talk. It's better for him to settle his emotions first than to face you while he's still angry. That conversation wouldn't end well if he's still upset. He wouldn't be able to think clearly, and he might not even realize he's already hurting you with his words because right now, he's hurting too.” I could only sigh after hearing Grandma's words. I leaned back against my chair and stared into space. I just wished he would finish sorting out his thoughts soon. I missed him already. Didn't he miss me too?
“We all sided with you against Desmond. His feelings are valid too, aren't they?” Grandma added. I slowly nodded. Everyone in Desmond's family had taken my side. It was my decision to hide Daryl from him. I was still hurting so much back then, and I was overwhelmed by stress that I didn't know what I was doing anymore. I made the decision to leave him and stay away from him without thinking twice.
“Then I'll just wait for him, Grandma. Thank you for keeping your promise to me, for not telling Desmond. You were right, I couldn't keep something like this hidden forever because no secret stays buried forever. I miss him, Grandma,” I said with a pout. She chuckled softly.
“Desmond won't be able to stay away from you for long. He'll come to you on his own, so don't waste your energy trying to look for him. He'll come to your house once he's calmed down.” I simply nodded.
The entire day passed, but he never came to the company. I went home and immediately looked for Daryl. He was the only one who could brighten my day and make all my worries disappear.
“Daryl, I'm home, sweetheart,” I called. He quickly ran over to greet me. I hugged him tightly. “I love you so much, sweetheart,” I whispered as I buried my face against his neck. I couldn't help smiling every time I caught his sweet scent.
“Are you okay, Mommy?” he asked. I slowly pulled away from the hug and looked at him. He looked so much like his daddy. I gently caressed his face and smiled at him.
“I am not, sweetheart,” I answered. I smiled faintly when his little brows furrowed.
“What happened, Mommy? Do you have a problem?” he asked innocently. I gently stroked his hair.
“Do you want to meet your daddy? Are you excited to see him?”
“Where is he, Mommy? Why haven't I met him yet?” he asked curiously.
“Just a little more patience, sweetheart, you'll meet your daddy soon. Give him a big hug when you finally see him, okay?” He nodded at me. I hugged him once again. I just hoped I'd be able to see your daddy tomorrow. I hoped he would still come to pick me up, and I hoped our date would still happen.
I left my son in the living room for a while so I could change my clothes. I kept waiting for his call, but my eyes were practically turning white from staring at my phone, and it still never rang. Instead, I focused on taking care of Daryl. I fed him, gave him a bath, and changed him into clean clothes.
After taking my shower, I lay down beside him and read him a few bedtime stories. I tried distracting myself so I wouldn't keep thinking about Desmond. But the moment my son fell asleep, Desmond was all I could think about again.
I carefully got out of bed and walked to the balcony to get some fresh air. I had really hoped he would come to the house tonight. I hoped he had eaten already. I hoped he was okay. I hoped he wouldn't decide to leave me just because I hid Daryl from him.
When someone knocked on my bedroom door, I walked over and opened it.
“Someone is waiting for you in the living room, ma'am,” Jessica said.
I frowned in confusion. Who could possibly be visiting me at this hour?
