Chapter 46 Fresh Issues
Chapter 46 Fresh Issues
Harper opened the computer in Sean’s office. She was looking for job openings; even though Sean and his parents didn’t mind covering their living expenses while the matter was still under investigation, she still felt bad about it. She couldn’t just sit back and ask for help.
The phone on the desk vibrating. An email arrived from a renowned design firm. The company was part of the Salim Group.
Harper opened the email with a furrowed brow.
\[Good evening, Ms. Salim. We at LP Sign are offering you the position of lead designer because we’ve just heard that you’re looking for a job. Our company is always open to you. Soon, many companies will be vying for your attention, so please consider our offer. Regarding salary, we can negotiate that in person. If you agree, please come to our office tomorrow morning. Thank you. The LP Sign Team.\]
That message lifted a weight off Harper’s shoulders. She was grateful that the major company had hired her immediately without any screening process.
Who doesn’t know Harper? She is the most famous designer in Nara City; naturally, many design firms are vying for her. If she were to start her own design firm, it would reach the pinnacle of success within just a few years.
There was a knock on the door from outside, followed by Sean entering with a cup of hot chocolate.
“Have you found a job yet? If you’d like, you can work at my company. I just received a $100 million investment from an anonymous investment firm. With this funding, my company can grow rapidly and go public as soon as possible.” Sean offered. He placed the cup of hot chocolate on the table.
Harper smiled slightly.
“I’m not suited to work at your company; I’d just be a burden there.” She said softly.
Harper picked up the cup of hot chocolate and drank it in one gulp. Her heart felt a little calmer after drinking it.
“It’s okay. You can be my secretary; I’ll teach you from the beginning.” Sean didn’t mind.
The beautiful woman felt deeply touched. She had never imagined what it would feel like to have such a caring older brother. All this time, she had been lonely because she was an only child. Since Sean came into her life, she felt more alive. Sean was like a real older brother to her, even though he was only her cousin.
“What are you guys doing?” Liam walked into the room after he accidentally saw them as he passed by.
“Dad, I got a job. I can start working tomorrow.” Harper said happily.
“Really? Thank goodness, I’m so happy. At least this will lighten Sean’s load a little," Liam said with a beaming face.
“Uncle, don’t say that. I’ve never thought of you as a burden. Ever since you’ve been living here, I feel like my life has become so much easier. My job has become very stable, and I’ve received a significant injection of capital from an anonymous company owner. You’ve brought blessings into my life," Sean said honestly.
Liam gently ruffled Sean’s hair. “You’ve always made me proud. I’m so happy to see you getting along so well with Harper. I only have one request: please take care of Harper. Treat her like your own little sister.”
“I’ll do that, Uncle,” Sean said firmly.
“Please call me if you need anything. It’s your first day on the job; you’re bound to run into a few difficulties there.” Sean said before Harper got out of the car.
Harper nodded gently. Usually, a driver would take her wherever she wanted to go. She’d sit comfortably in the passenger seat. This time, Sean was driving her, and she was sitting next to him. It felt a little different, but more meaningful.
Because, throughout the ride, Sean kept encouraging her to talk. Now she had someone she could confide in.
“Thank you,” Harper said softly.
“No problem,” Sean replied quickly.
Harper fell silent for a moment. She looked at Sean, then gently bit her lip. She was about to say something but seemed hesitant to speak.
“What’s wrong?” Sean asked, his gaze full of tenderness.
“C-can I hug you?” Harper asked nervously. She was afraid Sean would misinterpret her request. She just wanted a hug. Her burden was so heavy; a single hug could lighten the load on her shoulders just a little.
“You’re such a silly girl.” Sean hugged Harper tightly. He gently rubbed her back. “You don’t need to ask that. Just hug me whenever you want. You’re my little sister; you deserve to be spoiled by me. If there’s anything you want, just tell me. If you have a problem, just tell me. You’re not alone, so you mustn’t bottle up your feelings from now on.” He spoke very softly, yet firmly.
Harper smiled. She returned Sean’s embrace. She held him close for quite a while. With the window open, she didn’t realize someone was watching her from a short distance away. The woman was staring at her with hatred. She took out her phone and snapped a few photos.
“You really are a cheap woman. You’re not good enough for Uncle Logan. With these photos, I can ruin your life. Everyone knows you’re Uncle Logan’s wife. You two aren’t officially divorced yet, but you’re already getting cozy with another man. You’re really asking for trouble.” Yvonnie said with emphasis.
