Chapter 45 The Plot to Kill Logan
Chapter 45 The Plot to Kill Logan
“Ethan, how long have you been here?” Logan stared at his only son with an intense gaze. Even though they hadn’t seen each other in a long time, there wasn’t the slightest hint of longing between them.
“Why? Aren’t you happy to see your own son?” Ethan asked in a sharp tone.
“What do you want? I know you wouldn’t come here without a reason.” Logan spoke firmly. He knew his son best; clearly, he could guess.
“Alright, I won’t beat around the bush. I’m here to claim my inheritance.” Ethan propped his feet up on the table. He leaned back against the sofa’s backrest, then crossed his arms over his chest. His attitude was downright cocky. His arrogance hadn’t diminished one bit.
“You think I’m dead?” Logan retorted.
It had been a long time since they’d spoken to each other; instead of asking how the other was doing, Ethan was demanding a share of the inheritance.
“I heard you’re getting a divorce from Harper. You’re going to give her half your fortune, while you ignore your own son. I can take this to court.” Ethan began to threaten. He felt cocky after winning that court case the other day. With that brilliant lawyer standing behind him, he was absolutely certain he’d win any case in his life.
“Have you forgotten? I kicked you out of the house and cut off our father-son relationship because you committed a crime. My wealth is mine. Who I choose to give it to is entirely up to me," Logan said emphatically.
“Uncle, please don’t misunderstand,” Yvonnie said sweetly. She took Ethan’s feet off the table, then forced him to sit up straight and behave politely in front of his father.
“Ethan and I plan to get married soon. I want you to come and give your blessing. You don’t need to bring any gifts. Your presence at our wedding will be the greatest gift.” Yvonnie spoke very softly, a sweet smile etched on her lips.
If he didn’t know Yvonnie’s true nature, Logan would surely have been fooled just like Ethan is now.
“I can’t come because I have a lot of work.” Logan refused immediately.
“Uncle, don’t be like that. Ethan will be very sad if you don’t come. You’re the only family Ethan has.” Yvonnie tried to persuade him.
Logan sighed roughly. He was very tired after working all day; the only thing he wanted now was to rest.
“If there’s nothing else important you want to say, please leave.” Logan stood up.
“Uncle, wait. Ethan wants to talk.” Yvonnie tried to stop Logan in his tracks. She didn’t want their visit tonight to be in vain and to go home empty-handed.
“Give me 100 million dollars.” Ethan said in a commanding tone.
Logan smiled slightly. “On what grounds should I give you that much money? Don’t you feel great and no longer need my money?”
“Don’t argue; just give me the money now. 100 million dollars isn’t a lot of money; to you, it’s just pocket change.” Ethan pressed him a little.
“I won’t give you a single dollar. I’ve already told my lawyer that my entire fortune will be donated to a charity foundation after I die, since I have no relatives at all.” Logan remained firm in his refusal.
“Uncle, what do you mean? Ethan is your son. He should be the sole heir. Have you forgotten why you’ve worked so hard all this time?”
“I don’t have a son who’s a criminal," Logan said emphatically.
“Chris, get these two out of here. From now on, don’t let them in without my permission.” Logan looked at his assistant, then walked away.
“Sir, please cooperate.” Christian said politely, guiding Ethan and Yvonnie out of there quickly.
Ethan stood up from his seat. He shook off Christian’s grip on his arm.
“Logan, you’re a damn old bastard! You’ve completely abandoned your son just for that slut! I’ll never let a single dollar of your money fall into Harper’s hands. Ibis Corp is as successful as it is today thanks in no small part to my mother! 50% of Ibis Corp’s shares should have gone to me!” Ethan shouted, his neck veins bulging.
“Sir, please. The exit is over there.” Christian spoke firmly, yet still politely.
“I know, damn it!” Ethan snapped, turning and storming off, furious. Meanwhile, Yvonnie tried to follow behind him.
Ethan got into the car, his anger trailing behind him. He slammed the car door shut violently to vent his rage.
“Damn it, I really didn’t expect that man to be that cruel. He didn’t even give me a single penny. I wonder what trick that bitch pulled to make my dad change like that. I barely even recognized him.” Ethan punched the steering wheel.
“Honey, be patient. Anger will never solve anything.” Yvonnie tried to calm him down.
“How can I be patient? You saw for yourself how he acted just now. He didn’t show even a shred of kindness even though you begged him to come to our wedding to give his blessing. You were just asking for a blessing, not a 24-karat diamond.”
“Calm down. No matter what, you’re still the legal heir. If Uncle dies, all his assets will go to you.” Yvonnie wrapped her arm around Ethan’s to comfort him.
Ethan fell silent; he turned to look at Yvonnie with an intense gaze. His eyes showed a huge question mark and a desire for an explanation.
“What do you mean?” Ethan asked seriously. “Do you want to kill my father?”
Even though he was angry at his father right now, that didn’t mean he wanted his father dead. Especially if he were asked to take his father’s life with his own hands. No matter how much he hated Logan now, Logan was still his father. There was no way he could forcibly take his father’s life.
Yvonnie released her grip on Ethan’s arm and smiled broadly.
“That’s not it; you’ve misunderstood me. Uncle Logan is old; we just need to be patient and wait until he dies of natural causes.” Yvonnie searched for an excuse. In truth, she did want to suggest killing Logan, but it seemed she wouldn’t go through with it after seeing the disapproval in Ethan’s eyes. If their minds weren’t on the same page, it would only lead to an argument.
“Don’t you see what my dad looks like? He’s so handsome and still in great shape. Who knows if I’ll die first or he will.” Ethan protested angrily.
Yvonnie sighed heavily.
‘I’ll help you in secret. This time you’ll owe me a favor, because I’m going to take care of Uncle Logan with my own hands.’ Yvonnie thought to herself with determination.
