Chapter 44 What Did He Really Want?
Chapter 44 What Did He Really Want?
“What’s the matter? Is your share too small?” Robin asked, just to be sure. He read through the divorce agreement again. It clearly stated that Harper was to receive half of Logan’s assets. In fact, she was receiving 20% of the share in Ibis Corp. The amount was enormous—far too large for a marriage that lasted only a month.
“I don’t want a single dollar of his money. I want a divorce without taking anything.” Harper stated firmly.
“Are you crazy? This is a fantastic opportunity for you. Logan is offering so much money, yet you’re turning it down. Especially since you’re in desperate need of money right now.” Sean commented. He was taken aback time and again. He was surprised because they’d come here to discuss the divorce. Now he was even more surprised that Harper refused to accept the marital assets.
“I don’t want to accept any money from him. You don’t know how cruel he is. This division of marital assets could be a trap. Maybe he’s preparing something even bigger to make my life even more difficult.” Harper explained.
“Ma’am, I think you’ve misunderstood Mr. Thompson. He’s not what you think he is. At first, I thought the same as you all, but the more I got to know him, the more I felt that he isn’t as bad as you all think.” Robin tried to convince her.
Harper stared at Robin with such intensity. Her gaze made it clear that she was trying to read the man’s mind. “Now you’re on his side because you work for him. So your loyalty really can be bought with money.” She said with disappointment.
“Ma’am, it’s not like that. You’ve misunderstood.” Robin tried to explain. However, Harper wouldn’t listen.
“You can leave now. Tell your boss that I want a divorce with no division of assets.” Harper said firmly and unquestionably.
“But, Ma’am—“
“If you don’t want to leave, I’ll be the one to leave.” Harper stood up and walked away before Robin could finish explaining.
“Harper, wait!” Sean stood up too and hurried after her.
“Robin, please wait and pay for her order. Harper hasn’t eaten yet—please bring it to my apartment!” Sean instructed before disappearing through the café door.
Harper got into the car feeling annoyed. She was annoyed because Robin was now siding with Logan. Robin used to be the one who wanted to take Logan out the most; time and again, she had to step in to keep Robin from laying a hand on him. But now it was the opposite. Robin had switched sides.
“Why are you leaving in such a hurry? Our order hasn’t even been served yet.” Sean commented as he got into the car.
“It’s fine; I just want to go home and get some rest.” Harper said flatly.
“Did she say that?” Logan clenched his fingers tightly. His face looked impassive, but his heart was in turmoil.
“That’s right, sir. She wants a divorce without taking anything.” Robin confirmed.
Logan fell silent for a moment. He was thinking hard. Harper’s current financial situation was dire; she had no money at all, and she hadn’t found a new job yet. Wouldn’t accepting the marital assets be the solution to all her problems? Harper should have gladly accepted the division of assets, but why did she refuse it instead?
“What do you say, sir?” Robin asked to confirm.
“Just do what she asks," Logan decided. He didn’t want to make things difficult for his wife.
“She and her parents are currently staying at Sean’s apartment. For the time being, Sean will provide for their needs. If you want to help, maybe you could offer a contract to Sean’s company. He started his own business, but it’s still very small and needs a lot of capital support.” Robin suggested.
“Provide a capital injection of 100 million dollars, but don’t use my name. Don’t let him know that I’m the one helping him," Logan ordered.
Robin nodded in understanding. He quickly sought out Christian to relay what Logan had said. In no time, they set to work on the task Logan had assigned.
“I think Mrs. Harper also likes Mr. Thompson. It’s just that there are many issues causing them to misunderstand each other,” Christian stated confidently.
“I feel the same way. There are a lot of misunderstandings in their relationship. Maybe their communication is so poor because of their huge age difference.” Robin agreed with Christian.
“I feel sorry for Mr. Thompson. Mrs. Harper is always blaming him. Mr. Thompson has sacrificed a lot, but none of that matters to Mrs. Harper.” Christian expressed his disappointment.
“I can’t blame Mrs. Harper for that. Their relationship started off with problems. Mrs. Harper has suffered a lot because of Mr. Ethan. She’s just trying to protect herself by not easily trusting the father of the man who ruined her life. Especially after that accident. Mr. Thompson was the one who helped her, but Mr. Thompson chose to be seen as the culprit who nearly took her life. It’s only natural that Mrs. Harper is so disappointed and misunderstands him.” Robin spoke from the heart.
The man in the all-black uniform desperately wanted to tell Harper the truth of what happened. However, Logan had forbidden him from saying it. So, he didn’t dare to be presumptuous.
“I don’t understand what Mr. Thompson is thinking either. If he truly loves Mrs. Harper, he wouldn’t do anything that could shatter her trust.” Christian agreed with his opinion.
Logan could only sit in silence, listening to the conversation between his two subordinates. He let out a heavy sigh, then reached for the cigar on the table. He lit the cigar, then exhaled the smoke heavily.
His mind began to fill with the words Christian had spoken. “If he truly loves Harper, he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.” He wondered to himself, what did he really want?
