Chapter 33 A New Life

Chapter 33 A New Life
Logan stared at Christian with such an intense gaze. Just by meeting that gaze, Christian immediately understood.

“All right, I really can’t compete with Mrs. Thompson.” The man could only resign himself to it.

Harper fell silent for a moment. She stared at her fingers, still wrapped in a cast. The wound on her face hadn’t fully healed either. Perhaps she’d need quite a long time to recover.

“Don’t push yourself. Come back to work when you feel you’ve fully recovered.” Logan spoke firmly, as if he could read Harper’s mind.

Harper didn’t respond. She just sat there, her thoughts in disarray. She truly had no idea what to do right now. Her family was on the brink of bankruptcy. She, who was used to being treated like a princess, now had to become the family’s breadwinner for an indefinite period.

Up until now, work had merely been a way to fill her free time and an outlet for her hobby of designing. Now, work would become an obligation for her.
After all, there were many debts she had to pay and many mouths she had to feed.

Harper let out a heavy sigh. She turned to look at Robin, who was standing not far from her. Her gaze held a world of meaning. Those beautiful eyes no longer shone as they once had. It was as if the weight of her life had swallowed up all that light.

“You know, the Salim family is in big trouble right now. I have nothing left now; you can go and tell the others to pack up immediately and look for new jobs. I won’t be able to pay all of you.” She spoke weakly, but she had to be honest.

“No, ma’am. This is only temporary. I’m sure the Salim family can handle all of this and will bounce back in no time. I’m sure all the workers who have served the Salim family for years wouldn’t want to leave the family in its time of need. We’ll rise together.” Robin replied immediately. He didn’t even think before answering, a sign that he was truly devoted to the family.

“You can see what my situation is like now. I can’t pay you," Harper insisted.

“We don’t need a salary. The Salim family has always treated us well. The pay we’ve received so far has been enough to support us all during these critical times.” Robin remained stubborn.

Harper looked extremely frustrated. She didn’t know what to say to convince Robin to leave the Salim family and find work elsewhere. Thinking about the fate of the people in her home, she became very stressed.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll cover all the workers’ salaries. They’re very important to you, so they’re important to me too.” Logan chimed in. He offered a solution.

Harper really didn’t understand. Why was Logan doing all this? If he just wanted to protect Ibis Corp’s reputation, he didn’t need to go this far. The Salim family’s workers weren’t his responsibility.

“I don’t want to take on more debt. The more debt I have, the longer I’ll have to work for you.” Harper refused.

Logan fell silent for a moment. Then, he turned to look at Robin.

“Work for me, and I’ll pay you. Once the Salim family’s finances improve, you can go back to working there.” He made an offer to the man.

Robin seemed reluctant. He really couldn’t bear to leave Harper in this condition. Especially since Harper had nearly died several times already. He wanted to take care of her.

“Your only job is to take care of my wife,” he emphasized, as if he could read the doubt in Robin’s heart.

“All right.” There was no longer any reason for him to refuse.

After a few days in the hospital, Harper was finally able to go home. The first person to be happy about this was Logan. He even rearranged his work schedule so he could accompany Harper out of the hospital and take her to their new home.

“You can stay here until things get back to normal. I’ve booked tickets for Lisa and Liam; they’ll arrive here tomorrow. I’ve already given Robin the schedule to pick them up at the airport.” Logan spoke gently as he walked toward the luxurious house.

“Thank you.” That was all Harper could say right now. She didn’t know why Logan was doing all this. However, she felt grateful for Logan’s presence in her life. He had provided so much help while the Salim family was in such a difficult situation.

Not only did he provide them with a place to live, pay off all their debts, and bring Liam and Lisa back to this country, but he also thought of all the Salim family’s employees. If it weren’t for Logan’s helping hand, there would be many empty stomachs.
Harper sat down gently on the sofa.

She looked around. The house felt very unfamiliar. It was her first time setting foot in the house, but she felt as if she were in her own home. All the maids from her house were living there with her.
The interior design, the furniture, even the flowers on the table—everything was exactly to her liking.

“I’m going to stay here,” Logan announced.

Harper’s eyes widened at those words. She was truly surprised.

Liam and Lisa didn’t like him; she didn’t know what would happen if they lived in the same house.
Since this house belonged to Logan, he had more right to it than anyone else.

“You don’t mind, do you?” Logan asked to confirm. “This house is closer to the office. We can go back and forth together every day. It’s much more efficient.”

Harper was silent for a moment.

In truth, she did have reservations. Because she was still wrestling with her own feelings about how important Logan was to her. Her heart was starting to grow attached to him. Yet, she also felt intense hatred. She wasn’t sure she could control herself if they lived under the same roof.

What if she loses control and crawls into the man’s bed in the middle of the night because she can’t resist making love to him?

Even though they’re in the middle of a divorce.

“It’ll also make it easier for us to discuss the divorce. That’ll make the divorce process smoother,” Logan said firmly. This left Harper even more torn about her own feelings.
