Chapter 34 Too Many Surprises for Liam and Lisa

Chapter 34 Too Many Surprises for Liam and Lisa
“Mom! Dad!” Harper ran toward them, tears streaming down her face.

After nearly two weeks apart, separated by an ocean, they were finally reunited today. They embraced each other, making up for lost time.

Liam held his daughter very tightly. He kissed the top of her head repeatedly. Lately, Harper had been through a lot of difficult times; as the head of the family, he felt like a failure for having placed such a heavy burden on his daughter.

For the time being, Liam wouldn’t be able to work while the investigation was ongoing. Only after he was cleared of all charges would he be able to start earning money again. Until the investigation is over, he and his wife will stay at home.

“I’m sorry for causing you trouble.” Liam said with a trembling voice. He felt disappointed in himself and also felt sorry for his only daughter. He knew Harper all too well. She wasn’t strong or resolute enough to be the family’s breadwinner.

“It’s not your fault, Dad. Your only mistake was trusting your subordinates too much,” Harper said with a smile. She released her embrace around her father’s body, then wiped the tears from her face.

“What happened while we were gone? Why do you look so distressed? What’s this cut? What’s wrong with your fingers?” Lisa immediately fired off a barrage of questions after taking her daughter in from head to toe. Of course, she instantly realized that a lot had happened while she and Liam were away. She was a mother—no one understood her daughter better than she did.

Harper gave a small smile. “I was driving to the office, then accidentally hit the road divider. I’m fine, just a small cut.” She answered in a soft tone.
A small cut, she said?

Lisa had rushed her to the hospital when she fell off her bike while learning to ride as a child, even though she didn’t get a single scrape because she was wearing protective gear while learning.

Lisa would immediately burst into tears with worry whenever she had a fever, even though her body temperature was only 36 degrees Celsius when she was little.

Lisa immediately called a doctor to her house when she heard Harper coughing after eating candy.

Seeing Harper’s injured head and broken fingers, Lisa’s heart immediately wrenched. She had only left her daughter for two weeks, but her condition was already that severe.

“I’m sorry. There’s nothing I can do right now to help you.” Lisa said tremblingly as she gently wiped the wounds on her daughter’s body.

“It’s okay, Mom. I’m fine now; the doctor said the injuries aren’t too serious.” She tried to reassure her.

After catching up, they stepped inside the luxurious house. Lisa and Liam were both surprised and delighted to find that all the staff from their old house were now working there as well.

“Where did you get that much money to buy this house? You’ve already paid 100 million in compensation to the victim’s family. Haven’t you always been so wasteful with money? You couldn’t possibly have that much money, could you?” Liam asked seriously.

Harper fell silent for a moment. She didn’t know if she should tell them now that all of this was thanks to Logan’s help. What if they got angry and refused to stay there? Where would she take her parents?

“I… I got a loan from someone. I promised to pay back with interest once the Salim Group gets back on its feet.” Harper made up an excuse.

“Who’s this kind person? It’s not a small amount of money.”

“A friend of mine.” Harper looked nervous. She was trying to think of a name she could mention.

“A friend? Since when did you have a friend?” Liam furrowed his brow. He knew his daughter’s personality all too well. She always avoided socialite parties. At school, she preferred to keep to herself or just tease Ethan. On her birthday, the only person she invited was Ethan; the rest were invited by Liam, who had invited his business associates’ children or her schoolmates.

“That… mmmm.” Harper didn’t know how to answer.

“Please be honest. You wouldn’t lie to your parents, would you? We don’t want you to be taken advantage of.” Liam pressed his daughter.

“Welcome home. I’m glad you’re back safe and sound. I came home early on purpose to welcome you.” Logan appeared suddenly.

Seeing Logan there, Liam immediately flew into a rage. How dare that scumbag be there!

“What are you doing here? Robin, drag him out!” Liam snapped harshly. His facial expression made it clear he was furious.

The person he hated most in the world right now was Logan. Not the man who had destroyed his family’s business. To him, Harper was more precious than anything. So he was furious when his beloved daughter was hurt.

“Dad, please calm down. You can’t be rude to him. He means well.” Harper tried to calm him down.

Liam fell silent, his eyes wide. How could his daughter defend someone else over him?! How could that be?

Logan and Harper had been married for less than a month. What had Logan done to make Harper defend him like that? They’d only been away for two weeks, but Harper had changed this drastically.

“Harper, he’s here just to cause trouble. He can’t stand seeing our family at peace.” Lisa chimed in.

“You’re misunderstanding him.” Harper tried to explain.

Logan smiled broadly. Even though Liam and Lisa were still as rude as usual, he felt happy that Harper was defending him. The more Liam and Lisa insulted him, the more Harper would defend him. He savored every word Harper spoke in her defense.

Logan flopped down on the sofa, right next to Harper. Harper shifted slightly to create some distance. Even though Logan had helped her so much, she would never forget that Logan had once almost killed her.

“I’ve asked the staff to prepare a welcome dinner. We should celebrate now to clear our heads and calm our nerves. As for the unresolved issues, we’ll figure out a solution later.” Logan said warmly.

Liam stood up. He pointed directly at Logan’s face.
"Don’t act like this is your house!” he said, his emotions boiling over.

Harper gently rubbed the back of her neck. She gave her father a faint smile. “Dad, this is his house,” she said hesitantly.

“What?” Liam and Lisa were both taken aback.
