Chapter 274
Chapter 274
But Emory wasn't a prophet. At this moment, Emory was sitting in his office, counting money, bill by bill.
There was a money counter next to him, but he still preferred the immense satisfaction of gently rubbing the bills between his fingers. So every stack of money had to pass through his hands first.
Emory happily handed the counted money to his subordinate beside him, who then put it into the money counter.
This work routine had been repeating itself over the past few days.
Emory rarely had such an easy and profitable business, and for a moment, he was getting carried away.
The sound of the money counter working in his ears was like a beautiful symphony. Combined with his counting movements, his comfortable and unrestrained excitement couldn't be hidden.
This made Emory start humming a tune.
But soon, Emory's leisure was interrupted by a subordinate who burst in.
"Emory!"
His voice was extremely loud and trembling noticeably.
Emory looked up impatiently, "What?"
"Rocco is here!"
The moment his subordinate finished speaking, Emory's body suddenly lurched sideways, slamming into the nearby door frame like a cannonball. The huge impact immediately twisted his face in pain.
Before he could say anything else, a Germanic man walked in from behind the door. He wore a smile, his manner elegant and light. He spread his hands as if greeting an old friend he hadn't seen in years.
"I heard you've made quite a bit of money." Rocco's gaze fell on the bills Emory was protecting under his arm, smiling so much his eyes disappeared. "Some of this money should be mine too, right?"
Emory frowned and reluctantly pulled out a stack of bills from under his arm and tossed them over. "Here you go."
Rocco picked up the stack and casually waved it. "Just this much?"
"How much do you want then? Hey! Rocco, you just introduced him to me, that's all." Emory narrowed his eyes, handed all the bills under his arm to his subordinate, then turned to stare hard at Rocco.
Rocco smiled and sat down on the sofa, staring at Emory. "Don't worry, I'm not here to steal your money."
Looking at his smile, Emory just felt uneasy.
He and Rocco had known each other for quite a while. Rocco rarely smiled, but once Rocco started smiling, it meant something bad was about to happen.
"Why, why are you smiling?" Emory licked his lips.
Seeing he was catching on, Rocco leaned forward. "Nothing much. For old times' sake, let me give you some advice - don't get involved in Francis's business."
Emory's heart tightened, and his mind unconsciously recalled the suitcase he had seen not long ago.
Before Daniel left, he had only taken out half the amount from it.
But even just this half was enough to make his hands and feet tremble. The greed in his heart couldn't be suppressed at all. He had wanted to snatch that suitcase right then and there, but the Seraphim person carrying it clearly wasn't someone to mess with.
After all these years in business, Emory knew best how to seek profit and avoid harm, especially when dealing with those Seraphim people who didn't listen to reason.
"Why shouldn't I get involved?" Emory naturally didn't want to miss out on such a good money-making opportunity. After all, jobs where you could earn two million dollars just by showing the way weren't common.
Hearing this, Rocco knew Emory didn't want to let go of this money-making opportunity. He wanted to warn him, but then, remembering what the messenger had said, he raised his eyebrows and swallowed the words on his lips.
"It's just advice." He shrugged, speaking casually.
He patted the sofa armrest, got up, and walked outside. Before leaving, he waved the newly acquired stack of bills at Emory.
"Thanks."
Rocco's rare politeness instantly made the strange feeling Emory had just suppressed rise again.
He frowned, beginning to think about whether he should really take Daniel's business.
But the next second, he received a phone call.
The number was unfamiliar. He frowned, answered it, his tone unfriendly. "What is it?"
"Emory." The voice on the other end was the new voice he had heard just a few days ago.
Emory raised an eyebrow and immediately smiled. "Daniel! What's up?"
"My boss's brother can't wait to see his big brother. Tomorrow is Monday. Can we go see my boss on the first day of the work week? I can add more money."
Emory didn't really hear what Daniel said specifically. All his attention was focused on "can add more money."
He narrowed his eyes, his palm rubbing his chin. "How much more are you adding?"
"How much do you want?" Daniel was loaded.
Emory gasped, pretending to flip through the calendar beside him. "I... tomorrow I have..."
"Emory, money is not a problem." Daniel's person emphasized again.
Emory licked his lips, his voice sticky. "I, well, it has to be at least another million."
"One million dollars?" Daniel chuckled.
Emory exchanged glances with his subordinate. "That's right."
The wait for a reply felt very long, but in reality, Daniel didn't hesitate at all.
"Deal."
Emory's eyes widened.
He wanted to shout with excitement, but quickly covered his mouth. After a while, he spoke. "Good, no problem. What time do we leave tomorrow?"
His voice was trembling with nervousness and excitement.
"Early morning. We hope to get this done quickly." Daniel hesitated for a moment, then gave his answer.
Emory nodded. "Okay, no problem. See you tomorrow."
After hanging up, he immediately hugged his subordinate.
"One million! One million!" he shouted, then cursed a few times, his face slightly flushed with excitement.
At the same time, Daniel's side was also excited.
But the excited people were somewhat different.
"He agreed. Tomorrow morning."
Daniel put down his phone, his gaze sweeping over everyone waiting in the room, speaking flatly.
"Great!"
Someone burst out with a cheer.
Then people started applauding.
They were all new faces, people from Thalassia, with hard, smooth facial features, wearing combat uniforms.
Daniel was also smiling. He hadn't expected William's side to give him such a big surprise - an anti-contraband special operations force, crossing the ocean to come to America.
As soon as Ewan's investigation came out, Thalassia's police came to America under the pretext of pursuing international fugitives.
Due to special policies, the special operations force didn't need to report its itinerary to local police. They would cooperate directly with the FBI to round up those heinous criminals.
Daniel got up, went upstairs, and knocked on Daryl's door.
"Everything's ready. We're going tomorrow morning. Make sure you're outside for backup." As soon as the door opened, he spoke to the person inside.
Daryl was watching TV. Hearing this, he just raised his hand and made an "OK" gesture.
