Chapter 273
Chapter 273
Amelia has been much quieter lately because Milan transferred the five hundred thousand dollars to her account on time. With all that money suddenly in hand, she went on a shopping spree.
But she doesn't need property and can't drive, so all she could buy were luxury goods.
She's been spending this money until now and still hasn't gone through a third of it.
Vincent had managed such large sums of money before, so he was used to what this amount meant, but Amelia clearly wasn't yet.
And this was the source of Vincent's worry.
Before, when Amelia didn't have much money, she'd be thrilled with whatever random gift he gave her.
But now that she had money too, ordinary things you could buy probably wouldn't touch her heart. That's why Vincent was troubled.
"Vincent!"
Just as Vincent was frowning over this matter, Amelia bounced out of the elevator and headed straight for him.
Before she even got close, Vincent caught the scent of perfume.
It was an extremely light fragrance, not the same perfume Amelia usually wore, but the top, middle, and base notes were still quite bold.
Vincent tilted his head back slightly, leaning against the chair's headrest, his nostrils flaring. As Amelia approached, he completely analyzed this new perfume of hers.
The scent was striking from the start - first came the sweet and sour collision of raspberry and lychee, that smell not attempt to hold back, proudly announcing her arrival.
Amelia quickly walked into the balcony area.
The fruity notes gradually faded, and the rose scent that suited her best began to emerge - not the reserved roses with morning dew in a garden, but May roses with thick petals and deep red color.
Rich, gorgeous, full presence.
Just like her as a person - covered in thorns, but always soft when facing him.
Vincent loved her this way most.
He raised his hand, and Amelia, who was approaching, grasped it. Her hand wasn't cold, but warm as flint.
"You're spacing out here again."
Her voice was bright, too. Even though Vincent's vision was complete darkness, after hearing her voice, he could faintly see some light.
"I wasn't spacing out," he retorted, pulling Amelia into his arms, his voice carrying a smile. "Where are you planning to go today?"
"Not planning to go anywhere." Amelia pursed her lips, relaxing completely in Vincent's embrace. She was growing increasingly fond of moments like these - so much better than the days of constant fighting before.
Now she had money, time, and even Vincent's company. Life couldn't be better.
Amelia had grown up pampered and spoiled - this current life was her true comfort zone.
"Really?" Vincent raised an eyebrow. "Planning to stay home then?"
"Is that not okay?" Amelia smiled, wrapping her arms around Vincent's neck. "It's rare to have time to keep you company, and you're not happy about it?"
Vincent smiled helplessly. He wasn't angry at Amelia's deliberate misinterpretation. He raised his hand and grabbed Amelia's arm, about to speak, when he heard Wyatt's voice from behind.
"Sir, William's on the phone."
That extremely brief sentence immediately made both the bantering Amelia and Vincent drop their smiles.
Amelia remained nestled in Vincent's arms without moving.
Vincent reached out to take the phone and put it to his ear.
"What are you doing?"
William's voice came through quickly.
Vincent and William didn't have the kind of relationship where they could reminisce, so Vincent frowned, his voice turning cold. "What do you want?"
"Just asking," William said, only offering this bland response.
Vincent couldn't figure out his intention and was fully on guard. "I'm doing great, no need for your concern."
"When are you planning to return to America?" William didn't engage with his response, instead asking another question.
Vincent laughed in anger. "What? Want to chase me away? Your plan is going to fail. I'm planning to stay in Thalassia for the rest of my life and let you support me forever. Got it?"
Hearing this, William actually hung up directly.
Vincent heard the busy tone from the receiver before pulling the phone away.
On the other end, William, who had hung up, also frowned, his voice puzzled. "It's not him."
When he said this, Milan was also standing in the office.
Milan had come to Harmony City this morning, originally to attend a party being held here. He could have left in the afternoon and made it just in time for the party, but he wanted to see Katya, so he simply set out early in the morning.
When William and the others saw him in the living room of the Brown Mansion, they thought they were still dreaming.
It wasn't until Milan was holding Katya and feeding her that William and Evelyn confirmed Milan had really come to Harmony City.
Milan had no schedule today. Thinking that since he'd come to Harmony City, he should check on the Brown Group's specific development, he followed William to the Brown Group at nine o'clock.
Milan was also present when William took Daryl's call.
Now, hearing William's confusion, he put down his coffee cup and said slowly, "He has no reason to kill you. Before, maybe there was a reason."
William nodded. After all, the current situation was a complete dead end for Vincent. Even if Vincent wanted William dead, he couldn't possibly do something that wouldn't benefit himself.
"Then who in America would want to lure me there?" William tapped the table lightly, his brow furrowed, unable to think of any suspicious candidates.
"Who knows?"
The office fell silent.
Until William spoke again, breaking the stalemate. "The Johnson family - Uncle, can you help?"
He really had no other choice.
After all, he really couldn't interfere with things in America. If he rashly entered the US, it wouldn't be safe - just like when he went to America to see Vincent before, he nearly lost his life there.
Milan was also clear about where the Brown Group's weaknesses were. He frowned, somewhat hesitant.
He never liked getting involved in trouble.
"I'll send someone to investigate for you."
But since it concerned Evelyn's family, he'd get involved in this trouble after all.
After all, he didn't want Katya to lose her father at such a young age and become a child from a single-parent family.
"Thank you, Uncle." William bowed his head slightly.
Milan casually replied that it was nothing and went back to drinking his coffee.
William then sent a message to Ewan.
But he was very clear that Ewan wouldn't participate in any of this. After all, that group over there was involved with contraband, and as a government official, Ewan needed to stay away from these things.
However, the flow of information still needed to be there.
William never expected his people to play any role in this.
However, when he saw Ewan's reply on his phone a day later, his eyebrows raised slightly, somewhat surprised, yet feeling it was completely within reason.
The message Ewan sent was simple, just one sentence.
[Emory sold contraband in Thalassia and smuggled himself out of the country. International police are tracking him down.]
This short sentence made William completely understand what role his people could play in this.
He looked up, a faint light bursting from his eyes, then laughed out loud.
"The Johnson family is really lucky."
Emory would never have imagined that a simple act of greed could destroy the foundation he'd worked half his life to build.
If Emory had known earlier that doing business with Daniel would expose his whereabouts, he definitely would have kicked Daniel flying out the door before he even entered!
