Chapter 275
Chapter 275
Daniel left early in the morning, bringing only two people with him—one from Seraphim and his usual right-hand man, Alvin Jordan.
He got in the car.
As the vehicle went downhill and passed through an intersection, an unremarkable SUV fell in behind his car.
"Daniel, they're following us."
"Don't worry about it." Daniel looked down at his phone. He'd received some new messages last night.
They were from Evelyn.
[We're throwing a carnivore party for Katya next week. Do you have time to come?]
When Evelyn reached out on her own, Daniel was naturally happy about it. Even though the topic involved her child with another man, he couldn't help but smile.
He casually typed "okay," and with a flick of his finger, sent the message.
Having done that, he smiled contentedly, took a deep breath, and looked out the window.
Emory was waiting early at the agreed location. When he saw Daniel's car, he walked down to the curb and waved at him.
The car stopped smoothly beside Emory.
The window rolled down. Daniel glanced at Emory, his gaze extending behind him. "Where's your car?"
"We're not taking a car." Emory smiled and pointed to the building behind him. "We're taking a plane."
Daniel followed his pointing finger and looked up. The building in front of him seemed to reach endlessly into the sky. He raised an eyebrow and, without any hesitation, opened the car door and got out.
He smoothed his clothes and looked at Emory. "Let's go."
They quickly entered the building.
A helicopter was already waiting on the roof. Due to the aircraft's size, only one of Daniel's people could go up.
Daniel brought the guy from Seraphim.
Alvin was left on the building's rooftop.
Having two people from Thalassia appear together would seem too much like they were sticking together, which could easily trigger a defensive reaction from the other side.
Seraphim people were generally hired help, which wouldn't make the other party too nervous, and would also make him look like a newbie.
Daniel waved to Alvin on the ground below, his manner relaxed.
Emory sat across from Daniel, taking in all of his expressions.
The person he was going to meet this time was no small matter. He didn't want Daniel to cause him any trouble.
Daniel bringing a Seraphim guy?
Emory thought Daniel was being pretty considerate—Thalassia people paired with Seraphim people looked strong, but in reality, it was likely a setup of someone with more money than brains.
Such a setup posed no threat to them.
Daniel naturally noticed Emory's scrutiny. He relaxed his posture, resting his fingers on his knee, tapping slowly.
The helicopter was very loud. Alvin watched it leave, squinting for a while. He declined the invitation from Emory's subordinate to grab a drink and headed downstairs.
Sitting in the car, he sent out a message about Daniel's departure.
He had just put away his phone when he looked up and found himself face to face with a black man's bright white teeth. His heart lurched and nearly stopped beating.
Without thinking about anything else, he tried to stay calm and rolled down the window. "What's up?"
"We're going to grab some food in a bit. Want to come along?" The man didn't notice anything unusual and gestured behind him. "They probably won't be back until this afternoon."
Alvin raised an eyebrow. "Is it far?"
"On an island," the man leaning on the car window replied.
Alvin nodded with understanding and smiled. "What are we eating?"
"There's a sandwich shop over there. Really good."
Alvin got out of the car and followed the black man forward. Walking behind, he transmitted the information he'd just obtained to Daryl.
When Daryl received the message, he was awkwardly stuck with the special forces team.
The notification sound immediately brought Daryl back to life. He grabbed his phone right away, and after seeing the message, handed the phone to the special forces team member who had been waiting.
The team member took the phone, glanced at it, and quickly returned it. Then he pulled up the microphone on his collar and spoke into it. "Island. Need helicopter support."
Daryl kept his eyes on the man until he finished talking, then asked, "Can you still catch them on the island?"
As a rich kid who also owned an island, Daryl knew very well where on their islands wealthy people would prepare safe rooms. While they could only hide, they had left in such a hurry that he was afraid those people might slip through the cracks.
But to Daryl's concern, the special forces member just chuckled. "We can catch them. Don't worry."
Daryl nodded, somewhat reassured by the promise, but this peace of mind didn't last long. He glanced out the window, and thinking about what Francis was about to face, his heart couldn't settle down.
If you asked who in the Johnson family least wanted Francis to get into trouble, aside from Francis's wife and the child Francis had just had, it would be Daryl.
He'd received more care from Francis growing up than from his own father. To him, Francis was more like a father.
When Francis decided to settle abroad, Daryl was very reluctant, but he also understood this was all a sacrifice Francis was making for the family's development.
Francis wanted him to take over the family business, even going so far as to completely expose the family's weakness to the Brown family, just so William would put aside past grudges and genuinely help Daryl build up the Johnson family business.
"Have some water."
Maybe because his face looked really bad, a special forces team member brought him a cup of warm water.
"Thanks." Daryl didn't stand on ceremony and reached out to take it.
The warm water went down, and Daryl's complexion improved slightly. He stared blankly at the several special forces members sitting around the equipment.
The next moment, someone sent him a message.
The sound immediately drew the attention of the special forces members. They all looked up and focused on Daryl.
Daryl also quickly grabbed his phone, but when he saw the message on it, his face showed a smile he couldn't suppress.
"It's fine, it's from a friend."
He looked up and glanced at the special forces member who was about to lean over, quickly pressing his phone screen against his shoulder, hiding all the information.
Seeing him like this, among the special forces members were some experienced ones who could tell at a glance who had sent the message. They smiled at Daryl.
"Daryl, is that your wife messaging you?"
Someone teased. Daryl pressed his lips together and shook his head, quietly objecting, "No, she's not my wife yet."
Having said that, he didn't care what else they said and looked down at the message from Thora.
[When are you coming back?]
Daryl slowly typed, [Miss me?]
Thora's message came quickly, instantly suppressing the excitement in Daryl's heart, followed by a slowly rising sense of tension.
[I heard from Evelyn that something happened to your brother? You went to America for this, too?]
Daryl frowned. [Pretty much.]
[I heard it's dangerous.]
Looking at this message, Daryl looked up and glanced at his surroundings—quiet and peaceful inside the villa.
[A little bit.]
He sent this message against his better judgment.
Thora's message repeated, [When are you coming back?]
[Not sure.] Daryl replied.
