Chapter 272

Chapter 272

Daniel remained silent, just staring at Emory.

"Daniel, I'll take you there to see Mr. Francis Johnson." Emory sat back down, picked up the bills in front of him, and tapped them against his palm. "And to match this sincerity of yours, I'm willing to help you bring him out."

This was the first time Daniel had met such an accommodating dealer of illegal goods. He frowned, becoming wary of Emory.

"Help me bring him out? I'm afraid this price isn't enough." Daniel glanced at the suitcase beside him and said flatly.

He had some understanding of how things worked in America.

Getting someone like Emory to act as a bodyguard would cost ten times what you'd pay to buy illegal goods from him.

The money he brought wasn't quite enough.

"No problem." Emory waved his hand, clearly not caring about the price. He winked at Daniel, "We're going to be long-term friends, aren't we?"

This meant he hoped to do business with Daniel.

But how could Daniel, who grew up educated in Thalassia, possibly do business related to illegal goods?

Of course, he was going to refuse.

However, getting a well-trained bodyguard who wasn't afraid to die just by deceiving the other party - that was a good deal. Using someone as a pawn was something Daniel did quite often.

He smiled and slowly nodded.

"That's right, we're going to be long-term friends."

Hearing this, Emory's eyes lit up. He extended his hand, waiting for Daniel's response.

Daniel reached out and shook hands with Emory.

After that, the atmosphere between Emory and Daniel became incredibly harmonious.

When leaving, Daniel left half the money in Emory's safe. According to them, this was called a deposit.

Daniel didn't care and left decisively.

Daryl was actually a bit concerned, but seeing Daniel leave so decisively, he followed along.

Once in the car, Daryl finally had a chance to talk to Daniel.

"You heard what they said in the video, right?" When Daryl said this, his expression wasn't good. His brows were tightly furrowed, looking disgusted and irritated, like someone who'd just learned their kidney was being targeted.

When Daniel heard this, he didn't look up, so he didn't see Daryl's expression. He replied casually, "I heard it."

He guessed it wasn't anything good - otherwise, how could the usually composed Francis have gotten so furious?

The next second, he learned from Daryl the reason for Francis's anger.

"Those people are just waiting for me to go over there." This statement from Daryl drew Daniel's attention. He looked over, too, his gaze heavy and somewhat cold. "They want to use Francis to lure me there, then kidnap me to lure William over."

Daniel never expected William to be involved in this. He instinctively frowned and pulled at the corner of his mouth as if finding it ridiculous. "How is that possible?"

He said, and as if to validate his rebuttal, he quickly added another sentence.

"William's business hasn't even expanded to America. How could they possibly target William?"

Daryl frowned. "Don't forget, Vincent stayed in America for almost ten years."

Because he injured William's eyes, Vincent was sent to America by Nicholas before even finishing high school. But young Vincent wasn't short of money, so he thrived in America too.

Later, although Vincent was blinded by William, overall, his power in America was stronger and more established than William's.

Those people might also be Vincent's people.

But even after understanding this, Daniel didn't care at all. He lowered his eyes and fastened his seatbelt. "I see."

The internal struggles of the Brown family had nothing to do with him.

If anything, he actually hoped something would happen to William. That way, Evelyn might let William go, and his chances of being with Evelyn would be greater.

However, his selfish thoughts were clearly not completely private.

Daryl looked at him with furrowed brows and reminded him word by word: "Don't think that if William dies, you can be with Evelyn."

Having his private thoughts exposed by Daryl, Daniel pressed his lips together and frowned, not wanting to respond at all.

But Daryl obviously didn't care about Daniel's feelings and continued talking. "You're my brother's man now. That's no secret, especially to the Brown family."

His voice was cold, the icy reminder like a string of heart-piercing, poisoned arrows, stabbing hard into Daniel's heart.

"The Johnson family is surviving now under William's protection. If he dies, do you really think Vincent will treat the Johnson family well? Treat you well? Or even treat Evelyn and Katya well?"

"To Vincent, Katya is an even more necessary target to eliminate than William. How could someone like him spare anyone related to William?"

Daniel's expression gradually became serious.

And Daryl's words continued, cold as winter icicles.

"Think about it - if Evelyn knew Katya died, what would happen? If she knew you had a hand in making it happen, what would become of you and her?"

Daniel glanced over. "I won't do anything that would make Evelyn sad."

"Then nothing can happen to William." Daryl looked away and said flatly.

Daniel was somewhat reluctant but still answered: "I understand. I'll arrange things going forward, and you won't need to come along then."

Daryl had no objection to this.

Unable to wait until getting back to the villa, he called William right there in the car - he had to tell William not to come to America under any circumstances. Vincent was waiting in the shadows to trap him!

However, Vincent, whom Daryl believed was playing dirty tricks behind the scenes, was currently worrying about something else.

He sat on the second-floor balcony of the villa.

Ever since half a month ago, when Evelyn and Katya returned from Suncrest City, his position had been removed. And as compensation, William actually voluntarily gave him company dividends.

Although the amount couldn't even match a fraction of the fund Sawyer left behind, for Vincent, this compensation was pretty good - at least it was something, rather than nothing at all.

Previously, some company shareholders had wanted to help him, but after Katya's identity was revealed, those people disappeared without a trace, as if their previous promises and vows had never existed.

Vincent could actually understand their decision. After all, Katya was a child who carried both the Thomas family and Brown family bloodlines.

From Milan's attitude, it wasn't hard to see that he truly cared about Katya and was genuinely planning to groom Katya as his heir.

Those people at the Brown Group were best at seeking advantages and avoiding harm. In such a situation, they would definitely support William.

Perhaps because he himself was a selfish person, Vincent understood very well what those people were thinking.

However, what he was worrying about now wasn't about being kicked out of the Brown Group, but another very significant matter - namely, that Amelia's birthday was coming up soon.
