Chapter 78 She's Lying
Alicia's heart raced as she stared Martin.
"You see, Martin," she spoke with a steadiness that masked her inner turmoil, "If you try to take this ring by force, I'll swallow it and shift. Then...”
"Shift? Seriously?" Martin’s look turned gloomy as he interrupted Alicia’s words.
"Lee, you must not inform Allie that the serum she was injected by me was able to temporarily seal her shifting abilities, right?" After the words, Martin turned to Lee.
Lee pursed his lips and told Martin. "I did. But she didn't seem very surprised when she heard about it."
Martin frowned and shifted his gazes to Alicia again only to find her meaningful smile.
"Didn't expect it, huh? That serum you talk about is nothing to me."
"Well, that’s a real surprise to me." Martin sighed and wore a sad face to tell Alicia, "Go ahead and swallow the ring, kid. I've got doctors here who specialize in dissecting corpses."
Then he raised his head and ordered Lee who was standing behind Alicia, "Lee, you know what to do next."
"Really? You think so? But I can tell you once I swallow it I'll shift at once. Then your valuable ring will definitely disappear inside me. You know why? "
Martin's calculating eyes flickered with uncertainty after hearing Alicia's words.
Tobias, encased in the glass prison, noticed what Alicia wanted to do. He roared a warning, his voice raw with concern. "Don't believe her, Martin! "
Alicia's gaze shifted to Tobias, her eyes locking with his. In that moment, unspoken communication passed between them.
Tobias, driven by love and concern, couldn't bear the thought of Alicia sacrificing herself. He shook his head, signaling Alicia not to do that.
Yet, Alicia's resolute nod affirmed her decision, her eyes conveying a plea for trust.
Alicia quickly revealed, "Your serum had I have special healing powers. The fact that your serum doesn't work on me is proof."
Martin, undeterred, focused on Alicia's assertion of healing powers. His calculating mind probed further, seeking answers. "Can your healing powers eliminate foreign objects, Alicia? Tumors, for instance?"
Tobias's voice cut through the air, accusation dripping from every word. "She's lying, Martin! She doesn't have any healing powers!"
Alicia, still clutching the ring, shot a glance at Tobias. She turned back to Martin, meeting his gaze with unwavering confidence.
"Yes, Martin. My healing powers can rid the body of foreign objects, even tumors. Once you have my shifter powers, my healing ability becomes yours. It will help you, naturally."
Then Alicia continued, "However, your special serum is easily eliminated by my body as a virus, so I need to be the first subject to extract my shifting powers after being injected the special serum during the full moon."
Martin's expression shifted from skepticism to a semblance of gratitude, his eyes moistening with fake tears. "Oh, Allie, my dear, you are truly a kind and good child. Perhaps we should celebrate this newfound understanding. Dinner, maybe? A mere half-hour away from the full moon."
Alicia resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Martin's theatrical display. "No, Martin. I want to meet Tobias. I want a private conversation with him."
Martin, seemingly amused, gestured for Lee to check Alicia for weapons. Once satisfied, he allowed her access to the glass prison where Tobias was confined, watched closely by hidden eyes and surveillance cameras.
As Alicia stepped into the prison, her heart pounded in her chest. She approached Tobias, her eyes filled with a mixture of concern and worry.
Removing the patches from his head, she leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
Tobias's eyes bore into hers, filled with a mixture of anguish and determination. "You need to get out of here, Allie. He won’t keep his words. Don't deal with him. Seriously. He’s a demon. He never feels satisfied. "
Martin raised his eyebrow and scolded Tobias, "Toby, how can you call your grandpa a demon? I won't lie to Allie, and I'll certainly release the other Alphas, once I've cured the tumor."
Alicia shook her head and kissed Tobias' lips, "I won't leave until you and the others are safe."
Tobias' eyes reddened and he apologized to Alicia, "I'm sorry, Allie, it's all my fault. I brought you into all these troubles."
"Yeah, you're my trouble and you're always joking with me, and acting so high and mighty that you think you can solve all the world's problems." Alicia chuckles and tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.
"Why would you rather bear the burden of hatred alone than tell me all the truth? You should've told me you were Damian earlier. Do you really recognize me as your wife and...mate?" Alicia asked the question that always bothered her.
