Chapter 77 Don’t Do That
With trembling fingers, Alicia retrieved a necklace from an old wooden box under the bed.
All the stuff in that box belonged to her mother. She touched the necklace which adorned with a photograph capturing the essence of her mother.
The woman in that old photo possessed clear blue eyes and flowing blonde hair. Alicia wore it around her neck, clutching the pendant.
Mom, please, please do help me and give me courage to save Tobias.
My moon god, please grant me a protection of my baby growing in my body. A silent prayer escaping her lips.
Lee sighed and then drove Alicia to the St. Crescent Medical Center.
through the sterile corridors of the looming danger—the St. Crescent Medical Center.
“Oh, no...” Stepping into the heavily guarded lab, Alicia covered her mouth in shock at the scene before her. Mae, Ellis, and a host of Alphas lay unconscious on the cold floor like a pile of subjects waiting to be experimented on.
But the sight that pierced Alicia's heart was her mate, Tobias, ensnared within a glass prison.
His form lay on a table resembling an operating bed, restrained limbs, and patches on his head tethered to a mysterious machine. An empty bed stood adjacent.
“Tobias!” Alicia screamed and wanted to rush to the glass prison. But Lee grasped her arm.
“Don’t do that!” Lee warned in a stern tone. But Alicia knew he was reminding her not to be rash.
The glass door to the innermost room of the lab opened automatically and Martin stepped out of it.
“Oh, my sweetie. You’re finally here.” Martin smiled.
“Allie, Allie, don’t trust him! Allie!” At the sight of Alicia, Tobias's growl echoed through the glass prison.
Martin frowns when hearing Tobias’ words.
“Martin, If you hurt Alicia, I swear I will kill you!” Tobias warned Martin though he was trapped now.
"The threat will wait until you're out." Martin grunted.
Lee informed Martin, "She refused to surrender the ring and insisted she must see you.”
Martin switched his gaze Alicia and kept wearing his fake smile. "I get it. With something this valuable, Allie must want to hand it over to me personally to feel at ease. Right?"
Alicia inhaled deeply and tried to keep her as calm as possible. "Martin, I'll give you the ring, but you must release them. You’ll have what you want."
"Ah, my dear Allie, always so kind even though your friends and your mate lie and betray you. But, sweetie, you forget, I need more than just the ring." Martin shrugged sighed and gave a pitiful expression.
“I’m dying. Allie. If I didn’t have those alphas, I would die sooner. You must hear it from Lee, right? Do you really want to see me die in agony from cancer?”
“No, I don’t want it happen. But I won't let you hurt so many Alphas.” Alicia said, pointing at those lying on the ground.
“Oh, please, trust me, Allie. They won’t die. I’ll literally borrow their shifting powers only. And I must not have told you that Tobias' father, my poor son, long ago developed a potion.”
“That potion will help recover shifters who have lost their shifting power.ven without their abilities.” revealed by Martin.
Martin sighed and added, "Allie, my intentions are not as malevolent as you might think. I only seek a way to live. I don’t want to die. You know."
Tobias shouted, "No, Allie, don't believe a word he says. That potion won't work."
"Toby, you talk too much today." Martin raised his eyebrow and took out a small remote control from his pocket.
As he pressed the first button on that controller, electric currents surged through Tobias's restrained form, agony etched across his face.
“No, please don’t do that.” Alicia called out, tears suppressed. She raised her right thumb and said, "Martin, listen, you’ll have the Upper Moon Ring. Release everyone, and I'll willingly give you what you want."
"Oh, my dear, you still didn’t get it. Now I really regret to give the upper moon ring. At the time, I thought Toby and Ellis would suspect you because of that ring. Well, as it turns out, my stupid grandsons didn't do anything to you. That's a little disappointing to me.” Martin shook his head, muttering.
"I tell you what. The two moonstone rings are essential to activate the machine Tobia’s mother designed in a full moon night. But you shouldn't be negotiating with me with that ring right now, Alicia, because you're on my turf. Understand?"
After saying those, Martin signaled Lee to take the ring by force.
But Alicia stepped back, put her thumb in her mouth, and then threatened Martin, "Don't do anything stupid. Either I swallow the ring or you let them go."
"You thought you were clever, didn't you, Martin? But now, the tables have turned." Alicia smiled.
