Chapter 79: Trust Me, Okay?
"You hid your special healing powers from me. So we're even." Tobias joked and winked at Alicia instead of telling her the truth.
If they hadn't been in this damn glass prison, Tobias would have chosen to take her in his arms and tell her all of his story, instead of what he was doing now, where he looked like an object to be dissected on a lab table.
"You're still in the mood for jokes?" Alicia raised an eyebrow and twisted Tobias' arm a little harder, "Tell me why? Otherwise, I'll never say a word to you again."
Tobias pretended to grimace in pain and then sighed at Alicia, "I'm sorry. As a husband, I don't want to drag my wife into danger. As a lead of rogues, I can't bear to keep my luna ready to fight at all times. "
"You think you're cool to say that, huh?" Alicia asked, tears flowing from her eyes and brushing her cheeks.
Tobias forced a small smile and wanted to wipe the tears from Alicia's face, but since his wrists were still pinned to the bed, he couldn't.
"Now I don't go with the word cool at all right now. I look like a..."
Alicia approached and kissed his lips to stop him from finishing his words. He's Damian Howard, the arrogant King of Rogues. She would never allow him to demean himself because of his ruthless and conniving Grandfather.
Martin grunted, losing interest in the lovebirds' conversation, and turned to Lee to prepare dinner for him.
Tobias whispered to Alicia,"Listen, Allie, Mia left me a shot of epinephrine before she left. Martin's serum's effect on me has weakened. I can now shift once and take you out of here."
Sensing Tobias's readiness to shift, Alicia lowers her head and kisses him again, stopping him.
"No, I can't, Tobias. We'll be fine. All of us, I promise. Trust me, okay?"Alicia’s voice barely above a whisper and she continued.
"Tobias, I knew that greedy old man will continue to extracting powers from other Alphas to satisfy him after using my healing ability to cure his tumor. Now you can only shift once. So, keep this opportunity to rescue Mia and the other Alphas when my shifter powers are extracted. "
"What about you?" Tobias asked, "If I save the others, how do I save you?"
"Lee will help me . We've made a deal." Alicia whispered.
After hearing it, Tobias raised his eyebrow and stole a glance at Lee, who happened to meet his gaze. Lee gave him a slight nod before he left with Martin to dining room.
"But he's just a Beta, even Martin is getting old, he’s still an alpha." Tobias reminded, still worried.
Alicia raised her lips and gave Tobias a wicked smile, "Despite my unique healing ability can help him cure his tumor, I will become weaker than usual after using special healing abilities."
"So the special healing power will be activated when he shift. So, after the power of my shifting was transferred to him, he must have immediately shifted to use the healing ability to eliminate the tumor. You know what will happen to him.”
Tobias suddenly got what she meant. He breathed a sigh of relief. "You little smart ass."
But then he frowned and reminded Alicia seriously,"Allie, you know that the potion my dad left for recovering the shifting power won’t work on everyone."
"Although I improved the formula, it took me three months after taking the potion that year before I fully regained my shifting ability. I don't know if it will have negative effects on you and our baby."
Alicia smiled and told him,"My mom once told me the mate's existence is the Moon Goddess's hope that shifters learn to sacrifice, trust, and love. "
"I am willing to sacrifice my shifter powers for you, for my friend Mia and Ellis, and even for those Alphas I doesn't know. The most important thing is that I trust you. I believe you can find a way and produce the potion to help me regain my shifting power."
Her olive green eyes were filled with bravery, determination, and an emotion familiar to Tobias. Even the most expensive jewels in the world didn't shine as brightly as the pair of eyes in front of Tobias' eyes at the moment.
"Why? Why do you still trust me even after I lied to you, after I failed?" Tobias asked the question he guessed the answer to but still wanted to hear her tell him in person.
"Because I love you, whether you're Damian Howard or Tobias Noah Wilton."
"I love you too, my exclusive designer," Tobias' chuckle was muffled as her lips pressed against his.
The rich scent of lavender rushed through Alicia's nostrils, and Alicia knew the mate bond between her and Tobias was back.
Tobias smiled gently at Alicia. He felt that after he and Alicia re-established the mate bond, their connection was stronger. He could try to establish a mind link to communicate with her, which was a form of communication he'd only ever heard his parents use successfully.
Tobias: \[Hey, my love, can you hear me?\]
Alicia was shocked for a second and then nodded.
Alicia:\[Mind-link communication, right? \]
Tobias: \[Now we have one more secret weapon against Martin.\]
Alicia:\[I believe the moon goddess will surely bless us and our baby with victory.\]
At that moment, a strange sound echoed from the laboratory's rooftop. A figure, clad in the pristine white attire of the lab staff, deftly pressed a button on the remote control clasped in his hand.
With a grace, the roof responded automatically, unfolding to the silent command, allowing the gentle glow of the full moon to cascade over the transparent confines of the glass prison.
Martin, relying on his crutches, strode into the prison with a grin.
