Chapter – 14

Vihaan’s POV

We are now on our way to the Mallik mansion, Trisha’s grandfather’s house. I am enjoying  Trisha’s nervous face in front of me. She is fidgeting in her seat and fiddling with her fingers as a habit of her nervousness. I want to laugh seeing her expression. She has been panicking since she found out her grandfather’s men found her in the bar and brought her back home. That is a lie but she didn’t have to know. She is terrified of her grandfather. Actually, everyone is scared of him. He has a very intimidating personality.

He is a retired army chief. He is very strict. In his life rule and regulation is everything. He never shows his soft side in front of anyone. When his eldest son, Trisha’s father died he didn’t shed a single tear. He always maintains his stoic expression. It is very difficult to understand him. He always masks his emotions very well.

I know he loves Trisha very much. Though he never shows his soft side to Trisha, he has a soft spot for him. But I don’t understand why he didn’t approve of Trisha’s love for Mohit. As far as I know, Mohit belongs to a nice family and he is also a nice man, he has no bad habits.

I never try to ask him the reason for him not approving Trisha’s relationship with Mohit. Because when he came to me with this marriage proposal I was beyond delighted.

I know it is just a contract marriage but still, at least for this small amount of time, I will be able to spend my time with Trisha. She will be near me. She will give me some importance in her life. She has already offered her friendship on the first night. And I know very well if I never break her trust she will never break our friendship. And that will never happen. Even in my dreams, I will not break her trust.

I have waited years to gain her attention back. After her accident, she has forgotten everything. She has even forgotten me, our friendship, everything. And the situation took such a turn with my accident that everything got ruined. And between all this Mohit has come into her life and captured her heart. I lost my love.

But I will be happy if my love will be happy even if for that, I have to see her in someone else’s arms. I will spend the rest of my life with the memories of our childhood and the time we will spend saying as husband and wife during this contract marriage span.

My thoughts get interrupted feeling a soft touch on my hand. I look down and notice Trisha is holding my hand with hers. I look towards her face. She is looking at me with a hopeful expression. What does she want from me? This doesn’t look good. I look at her with raised eyebrows.

“Vihaan, we are friends, aren’t we?” - Trisha said with an innocent sweet smile on her face.

Oh no! This is not a good sign. What is going on in her little head? But I didn't want to disappoint her so I nodded my head stiffly.

Her smile grew bigger seeing my nod “You know, a good friend should always help each other in crisis. That is why there is a phrase ‘ a friend in need is a friend indeed’.”

“Ok…ok. I know that. You stop beating around the bush. What are you planning? What do you want from me? Come straight to the point.” - I narrowed my eyes at her.

“Don’t take tension. I am not asking much…just…I just want you to tell my grandpa that it was you who dragged me to the bar and left me there.” She said with such an innocent face and with one breath as if it is not a big deal.

“Whoa! How dangerous you are, woman! You want me to take all the blame for your deed whereas I am a completely innocent person in this situation.” - I told her in an offended tone. As if I am really innocent but she doesn’t need to know if I am innocent or not?

Hearing my reply Trisha pouts and Rajiv who is driving the car rolled his eyes. Through the rearview mirror, I give him a warning look. He understood I saw him rolling his eyes, he hurriedly looked away.

“You don’t understand, Vihaan! My grandpa will not say anything to you even if it is your fault. You are his grandson-in-law, whom he has chosen for me. It doesn’t matter whether we have contracted marriage or not. You are his favourite. But he will not leave me…he can kill me. You don’t know my grandpa. He is a very scary man.” - Trisha said with a pitiful expression.

“Ok…I understood. Don’t worry, I am here for you.”

Hearing my statement Trisha's face brightened like a light bulb “You will help me, really?”

But the next second she glared at me hearing my next statement “ Of course, how can I not help you? I will arrange a grand funeral for you. Don’t worry we will miss you.”

“So mean you are!” she hit my forearm lightly and said with a pout “ I am your wife! Can’t you help me a little? What kind of a husband are you?”

“Oh ho! You are such a hypocrite. You don’t want to act like my wife but when you want some help from me you remember being my wife.”

“Of course, I have married you, I need some benefits from this marriage.”

“And what about my benefits?”

“Eww! You think so nastily.” - said, giving me a dirty look.

“Your thoughts are nasty. I said with a pure heart.” - I said with an innocent face.

We continued our bickering like two toddlers till we reached there. Hearing our childish fight people will doubt us being adults. But I enjoyed it. I love to annoy her. I love to fight with her like a toddler. I missed these for years.
