Chapter 85 Blood, No Food

Chapter 85 Blood, No Food
Hazel

The night ended with me staying in the room they had given me after Elaine left.

Everywhere was so damn boring, so I slept early.

By mid-morning, I woke up, standing out of bed.

After the day’s bath and doing every other thing I needed to do, I stepped out of the room.

The hallway was empty, no one in sight, and no fading or approaching footsteps were heard.

My stomach was growling, searching for food, as I hadn't eaten anything great since the previous day.

I held my stomach as I looked around for the kitchen. Wait! Do they even have one?

Yes, they do. I found their kitchen and walked in, but the place looked so clean, like it hadn't been used for eternity.

I sniffled around, searching for anything cooked, but couldn't even find raw food. All I saw were blood bags in the refrigerator.

I opened the cupboards and leaned over the counter to get a glimpse of the cupboards at the top, but there was nothing.

Not even a single cup of noodles in sight. What had I expected? They don't take food; they only take blood.

I moved out of the mansion into the compound and decided to take a walk.

“Ugh. So cold,” I muttered under my gnashed teeth as I walked through the sides of the mansion, heading to the backyard to see what they've got there.

I hoped no one would be angry at me for doing that.

My hands wrapped around my arms because of the cold.

Vampires were usually cold, but I didn't expect their territory to be this freezing.

I walked a little bit more before I found a pool. Even the backyard of the mansion was looking great, another definition of an epitome of elegance.

There were people walking and moving around when I hadn't expected anyone to be here.

People's gaze slowly started to turn to me, but I quickly turned my gaze away and acted like I couldn't see them.

I could hear fragments of what they were talking about. “I heard she's a werewolf,” someone said.

“Yes. She’s an alpha's daughter. I heard she ran away with her lover,” another said, and I chuckled.

“I heard the search is still going on for her, but she's here under Lord Ethan’s watch,” someone else said.

“I bet the vampire lord wouldn't be letting her go anytime soon,” one of them said. “And that'd be interesting”

I decided not to listen to their petty talks anymore and walked closer to the pool.

Just before I could reach the pond, I heard low footsteps behind me,and before I could turn to check, someone bumped into me.

I almost fell, and that made a groan escape my lips.

We both lifted our gazes to look at each other.

“Oh, I'm so--” the girl was going to say when our eyes met.

Our gazes flicked with recognition, and I looked over at her in surprise, with a smile on my face.

“You are... the girl from the other day,” I muttered.

She smiled and stood straight with elegance. “Yeah. And you are that Alpha’s daughter.”

Right. I figured out she would have found out about me.

“How are you?” I asked. “How's Williams?”

I was suddenly so eager to know how both of them were doing.

She smiled and moved closer to me. “My brother is fine. After being rescued by lord Ethan, he was suspended for two weeks, but now he's back as an enforcer.”

I watched her lips as they moved. I could already tell she's someone who likes to talk a lot, and I'm sure anyone would enjoy her company.

I nodded my head. “And what about you?” I asked her.

She replied to me, saying she's fine. Her face suddenly brightened up as if she had just remembered something.

“So, you are the werewolf the lord had brought here to live with him?” She asked.

I didn't tell her I'd be leaving soon because only Ethan decided that, and I wasn't in support of it. To hell with that damned excuse of getting me from the rogues.

I smiled widely at her. “Yes”

She smiled back at me, her dimples showing on both sides of her cheeks. “I know you are Hazel. I'm Lyra.”

I replied. “Nice knowing your name, Lyra.”

“Come. I'll show you around. I know places here, even places the vampire lord had forgotten about,” she said the words more like a whisper.

I smiled at her, but the smile soon disappeared, and I held my stomach with a pitiful face.

“I think you might want to get me some food first,” I smiled nervously.

She chuckled, finding my pitiful face amusing. “Hungry?” She asked the obvious with a laugh.

“Yes, I couldn't find anything in the kitchen,” I said in a low tone.

“I wonder why you people even have a kitchen,” I added this under my breath.

“Come, let’s go.”

She led me back into the mansion and into the store right beside the kitchen. I bet there was nothing there, even though I haven't searched any corner of that room.

She kept searching, and I just stared at her from behind.

“There should be some food here,” she said. “The last time I checked, we still had some stuff humans eat.”

I chuckled at her words. At that moment, I felt a presence behind me, and that made me turn.

My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw Ethan standing by the doorframe of the kitchen.

It suddenly felt like Lyra, and I had been caught doing something bad.

She also lifted her gaze and faced him. “Good morning, lord Ethan,” she bowed slightly.

Lord Ethan only nodded his head and turned his gaze back to me. “Getting hungry?”

I didn't know whether to admit it because I was suddenly starting to feel embarrassed without knowing why.

Lyra came to stand beside me and whispered. “I will come and get you later.”

I nodded and watched as she hurried out of the room. I could tell she wasn't scared of the vampire lord but was just trying to give us space to talk.

When Lyra left, Ethan left the entrance and walked towards the sitting room while I silently followed behind him.

Maverick was standing right beside the sofa, and Ethan walked to him.

“Go get her some food. And buy some groceries,” he said.

I didn't tell him not to do that. I was so famished at the moment, and since he's keeping me here, it's only right that he feeds me.

“Understood, my lord,” he said, then exited the room.

Ethan didn't bring his gaze back to me, he didn't say any other word to me, and he only moved towards the stairs.

Before he could ascend the stairs, I took two steps closer to him and stopped him from walking when my voice rose.

“When will you return me to my husband?” I asked with a darkened gaze.

Ethan stopped and didn’t turn to me right away, but his hands tightened around the rails of the stairs.

“Your husband?” He turned his gaze to me and asked. And his gaze… those eyes sent cold shivers down my entire body.
