Chapter 84 Because Of You
Chapter 84 Because Of You
Hazel
The vampire lord walked inside while I followed behind him, leaving the lady outside.
Maverick also walked behind me, all of us walking through the hallway until we got to the front of a room where a young girl was standing.
She sighted Ethan and bowed deeply in respect. “Welcome, my lord.”
Ethan nodded. “Kai, show her to an already prepared room,” he instructed.
The girl said nothing and only bowed in understanding.
She gestured towards a turn in the hallway as she led the way.
I didn't follow her immediately as I turned to Ethan with a darkened gaze. “When do I get to leave?”
He replied, voice cold and icy. “I get to decide that, Hazel,” he said, then immediately turned and entered the room, which I finally realized was his study.
I followed behind Kai as she led me to a room like Ethan had said.
She opened the door to the room, and I slowly gasped at the length and luxury of the room.
Anyone would have thought vampires are just blood-sucking animals who would use red to decorate their homes and might not even have a luxurious home to begin with.
But here, the house is magnanimous, and even the walls are painted in purple and not a terrifying color like red.
I walked around the room as my gaze looked everywhere, trying to take the decor in.
“Please hand me your phone, Miss. You can call me if you need anything.”
“Please feel free to call me if you need anything,” she said.
My phone. I could remember Herald having it with him before we left Dad’s penthouse, but I could remember who the phone ended up with in the chaos, or if it was lying somewhere in the woods at the moment.
“I don't have it with me. I'll reach out to you if I need anything,” I said to her with a smile on my face.
Kai smiled back at me and bowed her head slightly. “I'll be downstairs then,” she said, moving out of the room while I was left to watch her back.
When she was gone, I resumed admiring the room.
My hand traced expensive stuff I had never seen in my Father’s home. There was an ancient lamp exuding soft light from a yellow, robust candle. The lamp shield was built with gold, making it scream elegance.
I smiled when I saw how neat and clean the wardrobe is. The vampire lord is so filthy rich to own a home like this.
Of course, what do I expect from someone who instills fear in humans and werewolves?
I was still moving around the room when the door creaked open.
I snapped my gaze to the door, but saw no one. But the breeze suddenly kept coming in, and I wouldn't stop getting the strange feeling that there was someone in the shadows.
But was that possible?
I realized it was possible when something slammed me into the wall, choking my neck so tightly.
Then a body suddenly appeared in front of me, leaving the shadows.
Elaine. She choked my neck so tightly with her hands, making my whole body grow hot, my throat tightened, and getting suffocated.
It was getting hard to breathe, and I was slowly starting to cough.
How did she pull that off? I knew vampires could stay invincible because of their speed, but I had never seen one stay invincible for as long as she did after opening the door.
She released her hold on me a bit, giving me space to breathe.
“Bitch, it's because of you!” She spat.
“He missed the wedding because of you! Ever since you came into the picture, he had been acting differently!” She yelled.
I didn't do anything as I only stared at her in terror and kept blinking my eyes like a fucking spoilt chandelier.
Even if I wanted to do anything, I wasn't convinced that I'd be able to do anything to her.
“You are the cause of all problems!” She spat. “He's grown more distant because of you!”
“That's not my fault,” I found my voice rising, sharp and cutting through her voice like a blade.
“If you have any problem accepting whatever it is that has happened, then confront your vampire lord!” I spat.
“You are a bitch. A fucking slut. Ever since he had that one-night stand with you in that fucking club, he wouldn't take his mind off you!” She said,
The pain from the way she choked me failed to bother me at that moment as my ears got stuck on her words and I tried to process what she had just said.
One night stand? A club?
Yes, it's the club Damien had taken me to, and it's the first and only nightstand I've ever had in my entire life.
Was that man Lord Ethan Lyrik? No, that's impossible.
He can't be the father of my child; he definitely can't be!
But then again, I thought about the fact that Ethan rushed to save me, and the first question he asked me was about the child.
The child really can't be related to him, can he?
Someone else entered the room and moved over to Elaine with lightning speed.
It was Maverick.
She held Elaine's hand with his gaze darkened.
“You know the lord won't forgive this if he ever hears of it,” he said.
Elaine stared at me, and I held her gaze. Her jaws clenched and her teeth gritted before she took her hand off me with the help of Maverick, who forced the hand down to her side.
They both turned and wanted to leave the room when I decided to talk.
“Since you know Ethan so well” I said and she made me pause as she scoffed.
“You even call him by his name?” She turned back to look at me, and her eyes were fire. I didn't know if I liked that fierce look on her face or if I hated it.
I decided to ignore her words and continue mine. “Then you should know that he killed my mother.”
“I don't want to be here either. I don't even want to breathe the same air as him,” I said.
I needed to let her know that I'm not into Ethan. Maybe I once was crazy about him, always thinking of him and always wanting to see him, but not anymore.
She turned fully and took two steps towards me while Maverick stood and watched. “Quit being a bitch, and I will find a way to get you out of here! I also don't want you here!” She spat quietly.
I raised my eyebrows. “Yes, get me out. I don't want to be with Ethan either.”
She wants Ethan, I know. And I don't want to have anything to do with him.
She turned again and walked out with Maverick, who followed behind her.
I landed my butts on the bed and caressed my neck, still feeling the pain from the way she choked me..
At that moment, I thought about her words again.
There’s no way Ethan is the one from the nightstand. There's no way this child belongs to him.
I need to find out who that person was that night.
