Chapter 86: Letting Me Go

Hazel

“I heard you didn't complete the wedding,” The vampire lord said, slowly bringing his steps back to me, away from the stairs.

The way he quickly appeared in front of me made my breath quicken, and I swallowed.

“That shouldn't have anything to do with you,” I spat. “Even if he isn't my husband, he's my fiancé. I'm bound to marry him anyway.”

Ethan chuckled. “Not anymore. Not when I saved you.”

“Sit there on the sofa. Maverick will be back with your meal,” he said and ascended the stairs.

I kept staring at his back and blinking my eyes. I hadn't known that I was this scared of him. I always thought I wasn't, so I always talked back at him, as if he wasn't dangerous.

But here? I look so scared. Maybe because I'm the only werewolf in the den of vampires.

I stayed on the sofa as he had ordered, and my hands rubbed my stomach while I waited for Maverick, not because of the hunger that had woken me, but because of the little kid inside of me.

I kept remembering what Elaine said, and it didn't want to leave my memory. She was surely talking about that night at the club, and as much as I was trying to understand her words, it meant that Lord Ethan was the one I spent that night with.

It had better not be possible. No, it can't even be possible.

I tapped my feet on the ground as I waited for Maverick. Not long after, he arrived.

He placed some shopping bags on the big glass table while I looked into them.

There were foodstuffs…. A lot of them, which made me start fearing the fact that lord Ethan was actually serious about keeping me here. Or was Maverick the one who overbought the stuff?

There was fast food like cup noodles too, and he bought two hamburgers and cheese.

“I asked around, and these are all I could get. I don't know whether they would be up to your taste,” he said, speaking quickly.

“Thanks for your trouble,” I said.

He packed the foodstuffs and headed towards the kitchen, leaving the burgers and cheese for me to eat.

“You can get into the kitchen to cook anytime you like, or you can get Lyra to cook them for you if you can't.” He said.

I turned to him with my face dripping with amusement. “Lyra can cook?”

“Yes, she lived among the humans for quite a long amount of time,” Maverick responded.

I nodded my head and faced the burger while I fit one into my hands and took a big bite.

“Or if you don't want her to…” Maverick paused. I had thought he left for the kitchen, but I didn't know he was still standing there in the hallway.

“Then we can get you a new cook,” he said.

I flashed him a smile. “No, thank you”

“I can cook, and Lyra can help me, that's enough,” I said.

He nodded and walked into the kitchen while I watched his back. I smiled subconsciously, thinking of how he was trying to please me just now.

I had thought vampires were just people with wicked hearts and souls, but not all of them are like Ethan. Not all of them are heartless and peacewreckers like him.

While I ate the hamburgers, I heard footsteps of someone descending the stairs, and I looked up to see Elaine.

Her gaze was on me as she looked at me like I was trash or dirt that she would never allow to stain her dress.

She darted her gaze away from me and shook her head. “Having a human around is too much trouble. I can't stand that smell,” she said.

She wafted the scent of the hamburger through her nose, and that made me chuckle.

The way she said the words didn't sound like it meant she can't stand the smell. Instead, it sounded like she couldn't resist the urge to take a bite.

I lifted the hamburger up and stretched my hands towards her. “Will you like a bite?”

That made her stop in her tracks as she stopped. She walked towards me and stood in front of me.

“Do you think we only drink blood because we want to?” She asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.

“Right now, your blood is what I feel like sucking dry,” she said.

Her gaze moved from my face to my neck, and she revealed her fangs, making growling sounds twice or thrice. I couldn't keep count as my brain didn't seem to want to register that.

I gulped seeing her stare so hard at me while revealing her long and sharp-looking canines.

“Stop teasing her, Elaine,” someone's voice rose from the stairs, and I quickly snapped my gaze to him.

Ethan was walking down the stairs in the same t-shirt and trouser he was wearing earlier.

I heaved a sigh of relief as I suddenly felt safe in his presence in the midst of another vampire. How stupid!

Elaine didn't push it further and only glared at me before she walked away, not saying a word to Ethan.

She almost walked out of the house when Ethan's voice stopped her.

“We need to talk, Elaine,” he said.

Elaine snapped her gaze to the back real quick. “What do we need to talk about?”

Her gaze darkened. “You want to apologise for missing the wedding? Or for making me look like a fool?”

“Or for choosing another woman over me? Or for bringing her here?” She continued.

Her voice was getting raised as each word was being said. “Or you just want to make excuses?”

She took her gaze away for a second, rolled her eyes at no one and turned her gaze back to Ethan.

“I'm not ready to hear all that, Ethan,” she spat with venom.

“The council will be here again,” she continued. “You made a fool of them also by inviting them to a wedding and not having it hold”

“I don't care how it happens, but we have to get married,” she added.

Ethan and I only listened while we watched her talk.

Elaine was not done as her voice rose again. “I don't want to know what you do with that werewolf girl, Ethan,” she paused.

It's not a werewolf girl! I have a name, and it's Hazel! I wanted to correct her, but decided not to.

“You can decide to marry her as a concubine after you get married to me, or return her to her people, I don't care,” she said calmly.

That made me scoff. “He will be letting me go, and I will be returning to my people,” I said, my gaze darting between the two who didn't even act as if I existed in the room.

They both stared intensely at each other like the world had gone totally unseen to them.

The tension in the room was broken when someone walked into the room in a hurry, bowing to the vampire lord.

When he lifted his gaze, my face lit up in surprise. It's him, Williams.
