Chapter 51

Chapter 51
Evelyn’s POV

The silence that followed after that was deafening, as though every one of them was afraid to go against my mate. But I could still feel their heated gazes on me, the judgments in their eyes so strong that I felt myself shaking deep inside.

We ended the dinner, but it was obvious they still had something to talk about. I couldn’t spend one more minute with them there, it would make me go crazy.

Seth’s eyes were on me the whole time, and he made sure to remain invisible during dinner, not saying a word nor removing his gaze from me. It made me feel even more uncomfortable, and even when I met his gaze at the table, he still kept that straight face, and didn’t try to remove his gaze awkwardly. I ended up being the one to retrace my gaze every time our eyes met. They were just being too creepy.

The omegas came to clear out the table, their movement slow but precise. It seemed as though everyone at the table were holding their breathes, waiting for them to leave before they continued out in their mockery.

“I want to go visit my old room.” I suddenly announced, surprising even my own self. Somehow, I felt as though if I spent even an extra minute with them at the table, I will definitely lose my composure.

Luna Julia smiled at me. “Darling, I know you’ve missed us and this place. We practically raised you after your family passed, but since you moved out, that room has been in a bad condition, you shouldn’t visit it.” The hypocrisy in her voice was unmistakable, I bit my lower lip to stop myself from responding harshly.

“Please, I insist.”

I felt my mate move, and the next minute he was standing. “Let’s go together then.” He whispered, sending hot and cold shivers down my spine. My lips trembled slightly, as it curved upwards.

“No Damon, I will go alone. Please.” I appreciate him trying to support me, but I just wanted to be away from everyone of them, and see if I can recollect my thoughts. They were already getting into my head, something that made me unsure of myself.

Damon’s face darkened slightly, and I could tell he was basically against the idea of leaving me all by myself. He stared at me, his gaze deep and searching.

I bit my lower lip again, “Please.”

“Alright, anything you want.” It sounded forced even to me, but I pecked him gently and walked away towards the direction of my formal room. My room used to be in the basement, a place that was reserved for me, insects and rodents.

During this period, I was thankful just to be alive alone, as everyday brought me nothing but the painful reminder that I had no one.

I was made to clean and cook even though there were Omega’s there to serve the family. It was as though they wanted to remind me of my place, especially Luna Julia.

When she found out that I was hanging out with her son, Seth, she became furious. For the first time that night, I was made to work all through the night, and even into the day, so I wouldn’t have the time to hang out with them.

It had been torturous. Alpha Morgan acted as though he was good to me, at least that was what I thought, until I realized that every time I complained about the mistreatment I was getting from Luna Julia, he went back to tell his wife about it, making her to furiously increase my tasks and my suffering. I learnt the hard way that I wasn’t allowed to trust anyone in this Pack, not even the ones who seemed kind on the outside.

I stepped into the bedroom; everything still seemed to be in place. The old rags I once used as clothing were now scattered around the bedside, making it a home for the rodents and insects. I didn’t hate them for that, they also had a bigger share of their own torture.

The room was dusty as hell, indicating that no one else had stepped foot into the room after I moved. Guess no one was unfortunate enough to have to go through that.

It was funny to know that even though Alpha Morgan claimed that he and my dad had been very close friends, he had never treated me like a friend’s daughter.

I caught sight of a dress; the only dress still left hanging. It had been the only dress I had on from when I was brought to this Pack, after being rescued from the rogue attack. Even though I out grew it, I couldn’t bring myself to throw away the dress, it was the only thing that reminded me of home, and comforted me when I was heartbroken.

It had a few stains on it, the once glowing blue gown now looked utterly disheveled. I remembered wearing this dress the day I turned 18, the day I was supposed to find my mate.

I was completely shaken to bits when I saw that my mate was none other than Seth. It had been both a shock and relief to me, He seemed very happy, but his mother had been angrier than anyhow I have ever seen her.

She called me names that night, both a slut and a shameless bitch, I was shocked and sad, but Seth had promised that he would talk to her, that we will be together no matter what his mother said or did.

He did talk to her, but I was sure it didn’t end well with the both of them, whatever discussion they made. Luna Julia stopped talking to me completely, and I was told to move out from my room to another place. Only for me to be betrayed by him.

“That dress used to look very beautiful on you.” A voice suddenly called out behind me, and when I turned, I was shocked to see Seth, walking in with a nonchalant expression on his face.

I didn’t expect that he would come in here with me, and suddenly the room felt very stuffy.
