Chapter 14
Evelyn’s POV
“What? I will take it that you my dear friend have lost your mind entirely.” Was Lily’s response. She grinned excitedly.
I looked at her as though she had lost her mind, but she stood up, hooking her hands around my shoulder in an instant.
“Eve, do you know how crazy rich the Alpha is? His pack is the richest and the most feared in all the 5 clans. You are lucky girl.” She said in excitement.
I felt my chest tighten at her words, and that only scared me more. This was another reason why I should avoid someone like him. All these power thirsty leaders all had the same goal, and how sure I am that I wouldn’t end up a puppet to him.
“Remember what Seth did, he used the same technique, and what happened afterwards, it turned out that he was just using me.” I tried to keep my voice neutral, but my emotions took the better part of me.
I just wish I was like everyone else, a normal werewolf girl with a wolf of her own, that way, I will be able to know who was my mate. Since I had no wolf, I had to depend on my mate, whoever he is, to feel our bond. But the male wolves knowing how vulnerable I can be, all tried to have their go with me. Just after Seth left me, I had up to 4 other male wolves, all claiming to be my mate, how could he be any different.
“Oh Eve, I am so sorry.” Lily’s voice came sadly, cutting me out of my imagination. She drew me into a hug, and caressed my back. I suck in a breath and let her hold me for a short while.
Soon after, she released me enough to look into my eyes. “I understand what you are so scared of, but I doubt Alpha Damon is someone like that. He is royal, very handsome and full of prestige, there is no way he would lie about something like that.” She told me with a full smile plastered on her face.
I rolled my eyes at her ridiculous deduction. “Lily, you once told me that Seth was perfect for me too.” I replied, rolling my eyes at how similar she was.
She paused and stood up with a stunned expression on her face. She looked from me to Lucien who had a more relaxed expression on his face.
“I did?” She asked with a calculative stunned expression. And when both Lucien and I nodded at her question, her eyes widened and then a nervous laugh tore out of her lips.
“Ah, I did, didn’t I. Well, believe me I must have been drunk the day I said that, there is no way I would have said that without drinking.” She replied, laughing nervously and scratching her head.
“You weren’t drunk when you said it. Infact we didn’t have a taste of wine then.” Lucien replied calmly.
I pulsed my lips, trying to hold in my laughter which was threatening to tear out of my lips.
Lily looked as though she had seen a ghost then. She then laughed out again, but the laugh was already sore, and then she settled back on the bed, blushing hard out of embarrassment.
“I didn’t realize I said that. Seth was an asshole; it was my mistake. But that doesn’t mean Alpha Damon is that bad.” She said conclusively.
I sighed tiredly, rubbing my forehead. “They are related Lily; and can we just drop this topic, its already giving me a headache?”
“Alright, why don’t we go clubbing then, you are stressed out, and there is no better way to overcome stress than a good lovely club dance, what do you say Lucien?” Lily was excited all over again. I wonder how it was easy for her to get so excited over little things.
Lucien sighed, rubbing his temples. “I can’t, I have a meeting with my dad tonight.” He responded calmly.
Lily sighed exasperatedly, “Yeah, you are always so boring. Eve, let’s get ready, I know someone we can borrow a ride from.”
“I never said I was going.”
She scratched her forehead dramatically. “Yeah, I don’t think you have any choice.” She said casually, and shrugged with a funny expression.
She took her time dressing me up for the clubbing, but I was mostly scared of the Alpha finding out I sneaked out of the Pack house, I will be so finished. But Lucien had promised to cover up for us until we get back, only if I could understand what that even meant anyway.
We took her friend’s Mercedes, the friend she still hasn’t told me the name of yet, and we drove straight into town. It was a short ride filled with exciting jokes, and Lily’s ever long convincing tale of why I should consider Alpha Damon, which I kept trying to shove away.
The club house was Packed with so many people, humans mostly, but I could feel the presence of other shifters like us around. It felt as though we were being watched at every point.
But Lily didn’t seem to notice, she was dancing wildly with the rest of the people, trying to make me enjoy the flow of the music. But I just couldn’t, not when I felt like a thousand shifter eyes were on us.
I touched Lily gently, and tried to whisper to her. “Lily, I think we are being watched.” I whispered as low as possible.
But through the loud music, she could hardly make out what I was saying. “What did you say?” She shouted over the music, “I can’t hear you.” She said.
I suck in my breath, but then again, I felt the presence, closer than before. All the hairs on my body began to rise, and fear gripped me. I looked around, but there was nothing suspicious, only so many sweaty dancers surrounding us on every side.
I suddenly began to regret why I came here. I turned to tell Lily that we should leave, or even drag her out of this place if I had to, but when I turned to speak to her again, she was nowhere to be found.
