Chapter 15
Evelyn’s POV
I looked around desperately, but Lily was nowhere to be found. My heart began pounding in my chest, and my pulse kept pulping from anxiety. The floor was still crowded with sweaty dancers, making it impossible to sight the threat in the dimly lit room.
“Lily, where are you?” I whispered fearfully. I couldn’t even defend myself properly if I was attacked right now, and it seemed I was now alone to face my fate, whatever it is.
Suddenly, I felt a body behind me, and before I could make a sound, hands grabbed me, and I was soon pressed against a strong body, too unfamiliar for me to ignore.
It was his scent that hit me first, an irking mixture of sweat and alcohol and something else I couldn’t quite explain. I understood then that whoever he was, that he was actually very drunk.
I wiggled in his hold, hoping he would let me go, but he held me tightly to his body, and I felt my body pressed against his sweaty chest and his irritating hardon.
“Let me go.” I whispered, trying to sound brave even though my heart was threatening to burst from my chest.
“Ah, not so fast beauty, I smelled your blood from a distance.” He said in a tone that made all the hairs in my body rise drastically.
He was not human, he said he smelt my blood from a distance, which could only mean that he was either a shifter or a vampire. Suddenly, I felt all the hairs in my body rise up from fear.
I began to struggle drastically against his hold, making an attempt to break free with every ouch of strength I have left in me, but he was strong, too strong for me to ignore.
He pressed me to his body and then I felt something sharp graze my skin. His fangs. I forgot how to breath at that moment, my whole body trembling under his hold.
“Who are you, what do you want?” I managed to ask through trembling voice. I wondered why the dancers all around haven’t noticed what was happening, but yet again, this was a supernatural event, happening in the presence of humans. I won’t be surprised if I learnt he somehow manipulated their thoughts.
“Ah, you don’t need to know that just yet. Why don’t you step outside with me and have a little chit chat.” He said, and even before I could respond, he began dragging me out of the dance floor.
“Lily, help.” I yelled blindly, my eyes searching frantically for Lily among the multitude of dancers, until my eyes settled on her. She was dancing with a man, seemly drawn away in what she was doing to notice that I was in trouble.
“Shut up bitch.” The man suddenly said, clasping his hand around my mouth to draw in my scream.
Thinking quickly, I struggled against his hold, and found enough space to bite him hard on his hand clasped over my lips. And then I screamed again, more loud than usual. “Lily, help.”
She stirred then, and I heard the man holding me mutter curses. Lily’s eyes changed colours slightly, and then she began rushing towards me. But just before she could get anywhere close to me, the man dragged me out.
Everything happened in a frightening speed that I didn’t see coming. Now I had my confirmation, he was definitely a vampire, because no other shifter could compare to the speed he had used to disappear. Now, Lily was lost to us, and we were suddenly in an alley way which I couldn’t recognize.
I tossed me away like I was nothing, and I fell down hitting my head against the cold and slightly wet wall there. For the first time, I saw his true form. His hair was brown and his eyes were bloodshot, but what bothered me were his fangs which were now exposed, as though he was about to have dinner, and I was that dinner.
“Please don’t do this, you are making a mistake. Don’t do this.” I pleaded, my words running over the other. I wasn’t sure what I was saying after that, but the pleading words kept rolling out of my lips, one after the other as I kept trying to move away from him, only to be pressed against the cold wall with nowhere to escape to.
My tears were blurring my vision now and I wondered if this had always been my fate. If I was made for nothing, with a tragic end like this one. If I had wolf, then I would have been able to fight with the last strength I have, because somehow I can be able to mask a bite on him which can easily kill him.
But I was nothing but a wolfless human, and that was probably why he attacked me, knowing I had no way to defend myself.
“Why are you doing this, I am a shifter.” I said solemnly, not knowing whether it was important to state that fact or not, but maybe that could work, or maybe not.
He looked down at me with cold amusement. “You are not exactly a shifter you know, and I have always wanted to know what a mixed blood tasted like.” He said with greediness flashing in his already scary red eyes.
So, this was why he was doing this, just to fuel his curiosity. I clenched my fists, my jaw tightening as rage rushed its way through me.
I began to fight, trying to break away. I kicked blindly, swung my arms around, hoping that it would hit him, enough to give me the chance to escape, but he easily caught my hands and legs.
“Struggling makes it even more painful, I suggest you just relax and let me feed on you.” He said with a sick laughter that made my stomach tighten.
“Fuck you.” I said, spitting him.
“Evelyn, where are you?” I heard Lily’s voice suddenly in a distance. I felt a rare of hope rush through me, but before I could answer, he covered my lips with his hands.
“Ah, your friend is quite persistent, she would make a good breeder, don’t you think so?” He asked, laughing menially.
I glared at him, struggling to speak, but his hand was tightly craped against my lips, stopping me from even making a sound.
“Let’s make this quick, shall we?”
