Chapter 31 "Elena in danger"

Damon narrating.

When I saw Elena collapsed in my arms, unconscious, I panicked. My only reaction was to carry her in my arms and run, not caring about the stupid guy lying on the floor. Let him be buried in the deepest grave for all I cared.

I threatened the medical team with my gun to save Elena. Well, that was the only way I knew how to solve things, so what? If someone annoyed me, I killed them. That's how I always learned to deal with my problems; there was no one to tell me that talking was how things got resolved. The only person I had to tell me that sort of thing was gone. Unfortunately, that's just how I was, it was my instinct, and I didn't know who could change that.

"Calm down, sir," the nurse said. "And, by the way, who are you?"

"Ah, you wouldn't want to know who I am, dear. And I am calm. I just want you to take my wife immediately to do whatever it takes to save her life. She's losing a lot of blood. Are you blind, damn it?" I shouted. "Go quickly, or I'll blow your heads off. I'm already too stressed."

I called my trusted security personnel; I needed people here to provide security. I lied to the nurse and the reception staff, saying that they didn't need to call the police because the guys in front of the clinic were already police officers. Well, it was a lie. I needed to buy some time to figure out what to do, but right now, the priority was Elena. I wanted to see my beloved well.

That Marcos guy came over to me, he was injured too. See, I didn't like this guy, but he didn't deserve to be hurt for no reason. Unless it was because of me.

"Let me take her to be treated. You can't take care of her," he tried to take Elena from my arms.

"I've already taken care of that. It's not you who's going to take care of her. I'm her husband. And they're already coming to take care of Elena. Don't worry, go take care of yourself."

"You're such an idiot."

"Ah, idiot? I saved your lives. Shut up, damn it," I pointed my gun at him, and he moved away. "Let me pass, she's losing blood. I don't want to waste my precious time arguing with you, man. Seriously."

"But what the hell!" he yelled. "How far do your selfishness and possessiveness go? She'll die if you don't let her go. Let me take her. I'll save her. I promise you."

I took a deep breath. He was right. As much as I didn't trust this guy, I don't know why. My instinct spoke loudly sometimes. And he certainly wasn't someone to be trusted. I just didn't know and didn't have any arguments to justify my theory. Not yet. Elena needed to go with him to save her life since the rest of the team together was slower than a turtle. I hate incompetent people.

"Okay. Sorry. You can take her to the operating room."

"Elena was wounded in the abdomen, and she's losing a lot of blood. We need to stabilize that as quickly as possible."

"Then go ahead."

"If you had let me go before instead of arguing," he looked at me with a frown, and I rolled my eyes in response. "Help me put her on the stretcher, please."

I helped him put Elena on the stretcher. She was still unconscious. I was so worried that I even forgot about everything else.

"And are you not injured?" I asked him.

"It was a superficial cut. He only grazed me. But when it comes to Elena, he hit a dangerous place. Let's hope it's not something serious."

I watched as he pushed the stretcher toward the operating room. I couldn't go in. So, all I could do was wait outside and see the woman I was hopelessly in love with, somewhere between life and death.

Now, only one thing intrigues me. Who was this crazy guy shooting people in a damn clinic? It's not normal, not here, nor in China. Except for that Grey's Anatomy episode where that guy loses his wife and starts shooting everyone. I watch series, okay, sometimes when I have some free time. Which is pretty rare.

I called Gael; I needed to talk to someone. And my uncle wasn't the best option, considering he doesn't like Elena. He made it clear.

"Gael, man. You won't believe what happened," I said on the phone.

I told him everything, and he instructed me not to leave and wait for him to arrange more security for me and Elena. I didn't know who to trust.

"You just call me saying you killed a man?" Gael said on the phone.

"Yes, I killed him. And I don't regret it. I'll explain later."

"Alright, honestly Damon, I'll have to send someone to clean up your mess."

I hung up the phone.

I spent hours waiting there in front of the operating room. My emotions were completely connected to Elena. She was all I could think about, and I wanted to have the power to save her. But not everything goes as I want. Seeing that fragile being losing so much blood and not being able to help... that man got what he deserved for laying a hand on my Elena.

I never expected that a simple girl would suddenly enter my life and change everything I knew about myself. It was totally strange. Elena changed my life in just one night. I found myself torn between everything I had built and everything I felt for her now. My emotional side was speaking louder than my logical side at the moment.

That email.

Ah, that damn email. Two minutes of reading it changed my entire perception of Elena. But I didn't want to believe it.

I was walking around in a daze, waiting for news. When Marcos came to me with a not-so-good look on his face. Elena wasn't doing well.

"What happened? Is she okay? Is she recovering?" I asked with a worried tone.

"I managed to stabilize her condition. But Damon, Elena lost a lot of blood... a lot, and she needs blood. But not just anyone's; she has a specific blood type. I swear if I had it, I would have already performed the transfusion."

"What blood type does she need?" I asked.

"It's the Ab-blood type, and unfortunately, it's in short supply at the hospital. What are we going to do?" He put his hands on his head and started pacing back and forth.

"Wait. That's the same blood type as mine," I said hopefully. "I also have this rare blood type, and I can donate blood to her."

Marcos rolled his eyes as if he didn't believe what I was saying. Oh, maybe he didn't want me to be the one who saved her. Well, who's the selfish one now?

"That's not possible, right? That you also have this blood type."

"Why would I joke about something so serious, you moron?" I said.

"Alright, then we'll have to do a test first to confirm because we need to run some tests."

I nodded. I hated this guy with all my strength, but when it came

to saving the woman I was in love with, I didn't care much, not even if she might be against me.

I went into the room with him, and he left me with the nurse to draw my blood, etc. I didn't have an aversion to blood; it was something normal in my "profession."

The way Elena looked at me when I killed that man, it was as if she had met or seen a monster. Maybe it was in my nature to be one. But there are things I admit I do on impulse.

I waited in the chair, expecting some kind of response from the annoying Marcos.

He was perfect for her... that was a fact, and I couldn't help but notice it.

He was a doctor, in the same field, didn't have a gang to lead, and put Elena in danger. Maybe I was too selfish to want her for myself when I could put her life at risk with every step we took. But if I find out and confirm what my uncle told me, I won't make an effort; that Damon who did everything to keep someone in my life died long ago.

"It will pass, Damon. Soon, you'll get over it. They've gone to a better place," he said.

What bullshit advice. I didn't want to lose Elena too.

"Damon, your blood is compatible with Elena's. We need to do the blood transfusion as quickly as possible," Marcos came to me.

"Okay, let's do it. She's in danger."

I went into the room, and we performed the blood transfusion for Elena. I was happy; it was God who put her in my path. For how long I had been looking for a reason to be alive, to wake up every day.

After the blood transfusion, they asked me to wait outside. Nothing else mattered; everything else was just insignificant. I just wanted to see the woman I cared for, healthy and awake.

I stood outside, pacing back and forth, feeling a terrible sensation it was a mix of sensations that invaded my chest. I don't know what was happening to me. Normally, I didn't feel these things.

I was very neutral.

But suddenly, a girl appeared, stubborn, beautiful, with long hair and brown eyes, a gentle look that made me change everything I knew about myself. And mind you, we haven't even had anything yet.
